Welcome!

Pippi!!! Here is Annalisa and here.

Franca is right, you shouldn't be doing things about the house, you're supposed to feeding and mnetting all the time. I do get your point about getting drawn in and never getting anything else done, I must admit that mn is the bane of my life, my cooking has definitely gone downhill since I discovered it.

Franca, why don't you go on holiday to the UK instead of al mare in Italia? There are lots of lovely areas to visit if you can stand the Russian roulette that is the weather....I don't blame you if you can't though, I've spent too many Julys shivering in the howling gales and horizontal rain.

Abena, how did you get on? Don't ever offer money, always ask them what they expect and go from there. That's the Italian way, I still get asked about my "pretese economiche" when I go for jobs and I'm way past the haggling stage.

Brangelina, I'm thinking of going to exeter maybe in late July or late August, if our friends are around and willing to shelter us . We are going to Menorca in early August with other 3 families.

That's good, hopefully you'll be lucky with the weather. DP wanted to do the UK in late August/beginning Sept after 2 weeks in Sardegna. How much holiday does he think I've got??? I'd much rather do May or June and spezzarlo un po'.

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 10:53

Menorca is lovely, I went about 8 years ago. Stayed in a converted farmhouse near a rarely frequented beach, twas gorgeous

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 10:54

We looked into going to Sardegna (in August though, as our friends can only go on holiday in august, so Italian ) but it was too expensive. Beautiful, mind you. I'd really love to go to Sardegna. Last time I went I was ten

We found a big house that fits 4 families. I'm told that it's lovely, I've never been. I'm hoping it won't be too crowded and at the same time that the dc might find some English mates

You'll have to go for an all inclusive in Majorca to find Brit kids, iirc Menorca is a lot less frequented by families but things will probably have changed in 8 years.

For Sardegna we were (or rather, DP was) thinking of returning to the campsite near Palau we went to 2 years ago. We got a basic bungalow (ie. bed, mini kitchen, bathroom and veranda) it cost very little and was a short drive away from places like the isola dei Gabbiani. Here's the place.

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 11:07

It's beautiful! Have bookmarked it. I want to go camping next year, they'll be old enough to really appreciate it.

just got back from tuelada is the south of the island last week. It was just so beautiful. We had bikes to get to the beach, a pizza oven in the kitchen and a digger in the garden. Ds was in heaven!

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 11:28

Lol, my gay ex neigbour is from there! He always used to complain about the lack of nightlife, but then he was obv looking for something different.

Sardegna is beautiful, there are so many places to visit away from the ubiquitous Costa Smeralda. Apparently the interior is also beautiful but I must admit I've never strayed very far from the coast.

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 11:29

Sounds perfect witchandchips ! What was the weather like? It was awful in northern Italy.

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 11:34

Last time I went to Sardegna we stayed in a very underdeveloped area nr Castelsardo if I remember well (it was 27 yrs ago!!!). The beach was beautiful with big dunes and the estuary of a small river. There was a forest of Mediterranean pines. I just don't dare thinking what it might have become in these 27 yrs though.

weather was gorgeous (25 degrees and sunny) only rained at night
i swum every day but did need to jog for 2km or so afterwards to warm up!

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 11:39

Blimey, did you get funny looks from the hat and scarf clad locals. You are brave! Mind you, when I was younger and hardier I once managed a dip in the North Sea...

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 11:44

You brave woman ! Sounds idyllic though

yes dp has a picture of me emerging from the sea next to a couple of behatted and quilted coat wearing locals walking their dogs!

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 11:54

Lol!!! they must have been shocked

not nearly as dp when he saw 3 soldiers share a 66cls bottle of beer and make it last a whole hour!. Far cry from the squaddies we are used to in the uk!

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/04/2008 12:10

morning girls.

you might be right but I am scared if I let go the place is going to implode and all of us with it. I guess I just want to sass it first, then I can relax. in fairness I am pretty relaxed... both dds go to sleep at 8.30/9 (a far cry from last years problems with dd1) and sleep well through. dd2 (arianna who does not look like anyone)(sleeps all morning) and never complains. also the weight is shifting very quickly this way... which helps boost morale (sexiness levels are at lowest when brestfeeding and without clothes - all still in boxes - and without mirrors in the house)!!!

menorca is lovely. went to an all inclusive teletext cheap deal 10 years ago, with an ex boyfriend and the resort was very similar to southend on sea!! except from that it's brilliant. would go back anytime.

I think we have abandoned sicily for this year sadly (too much faff and too little money). instead we are going to a friend's house in punta ala, which although not remotely as good is easier for nonna to reach and handier for us.

where's hothell and how is she? I want to discuss grand design live with her !

you wanted details of birth. well after I spoke to you that aft I started having mild contr at midnight. at 5ish I went in (exactly the same as with dd1). same dilation (sp? you know what I mean) 6cm. I knew she'd be out quickly but this time I got scared of the imminent pain and after going in the pool, throwing up in another room I asked for an epidural consequently pissing the midwife right off as I messed up 3 rooms in the space of half an hour!!!
by the time the anesthesist came I was in dear pain because dd2 was pushing to come out. I stupidly lied and said she wasn't. the idiot midwife did not check me out so they did give me an epidural which slowed it down and she was born at 2pm. the outcome ot this is that she was pushing right down for such a long time that I am now left with piles (the joy of motherhood)!!

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 12:12

This is why a few years ago, one particular Irish pub in Milan would only let in northern Europeans on a Friday and Saturday night. The Italians only took up space and sat with the same drink all evening. Not very profitable from the owner's pov.

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/04/2008 12:13

wrote this message earlier and then had to go and speak to neighbour.

dh was equally shocked when invited at a friend's house in pg for dinner he found no beer or wine on the table but water and coca cola.

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 12:14

Pippi, you have a newborn that sleeps???!!! Am very .

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/04/2008 12:18

brang I think it is their survival instinct ... whith such an histerical mother they'd be risking their lives otherwise .

Brangelina · 29/04/2008 12:22
Grin
francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 12:26

I've always been impressed by how quickly my English friends drink their beer . I also find I have a different approach to beer, it is something I drink over dinner (pizza) or after the beach, it's nice sipping a beer watching the sunset...

Pippi, lol at changing rooms in 30 mins at the hospital. But I'm sorry you now have piles . And at sleeping newborn. AS you know ds was a total nightmare. Dd more angelic, but started to sleep through once on solids.

Punta Ala is fab with small children. I spent a summer holiday there when I was 9, I think, in a big camping, it was great.
