Lets hope its a great month for us all

oh no- it's too late now! Are they not a real agency then? What have you heard about them? Should I be contacting Trading Standards or something? How on earth can you tell if a company is genuine- all their stuff looks brilliant.

Pants.

altin · 26/02/2008 21:10

Tyac: It's always good to spread your risk and you've certainly done that! I'd go along with others and say that MOT are the best of the ones that have said yes to you. If KL give you a yes, then go for it. There's no interview - just a straight yes or no. Maybe I'm biased because my dd and ds are with them but they're always in the frame when it comes to castings and jobs.

ds has casting tomorrow for Camper shoes in N1. It's his first for a long while and I'm so happy for him as his sis has been getting all the attention/demand. He's been teasing her all night

Got BHS avail check for dd in mid-March. I'd imagine there are loads in line for that one?

marymay · 26/02/2008 22:13

soph28....sorry to hear you have paid them.
i have never heard about or seen any children from models direct at any casting my children have been to.
how did you pay the money ? is there any way you could stop it ?

julie4travel · 26/02/2008 22:36

well done altin on your castings etc. what age is your ds? hope it goes well

Rubystar77 · 26/02/2008 23:21

Hi tyac..
welldone for all those accepting, you've been busy..the top 3 are the ones not taking on so maybe wait til they are if not go with mot if you like them..
i had bad experience with rascals, but see for yourself. i have 2 daughters one with bk and one with scallywags.
good luck in deciding!

brooke77 · 27/02/2008 08:04

hi soph28.. i do know of someone who got a lot of work through models direct ! have to say thats only the one good story i have heard about them though..

good luck to everyone who has castings / jobs etc

liahgen · 27/02/2008 08:46

soph28, trading standards know all about them unfortunately.

Maybe just put it down to experience and join a reputable agency

thanks for the welcome all.

Tinkerbel6 · 27/02/2008 13:07

Soph are you still within the cooling off period, I would contact them anyway and request your money back, if you look at the alba model site md is under the name and shame bit.

Hi all,

Just a little update on my baby daughter.... she will in a shoot advertising suncream tomorrow!

Wish me luck.

Tallie xx

liahgen · 27/02/2008 20:32

hey good luck Tallie, where is the shoot?

Tallie11 · 27/02/2008 20:48

Thanks Liahgen , the shoot is at Holburn Studios , which luckily i'm familiar with.

liahgen · 27/02/2008 21:08

excellent. Fairly easy to get to. Do let us know how you get on.

incidentally, if anyone needs to know where a location is, do ask, I may just know. In 13 yrs, we've been to a few.!!

soph28 · 27/02/2008 23:02

Hi all,
Thanks for the help. I already checked alba out and googled models direct- not good. Don't know why I didn't ib the first place, they just seemed so genuine! May try to get money back but will be difficult as they are a real model agency it's just they obviously just take anyone on so have loads of models, most of whom don't get any work!

Maybe ds isn't actually good enough to get on to the books in a proper agency- especially seeing as we can't apply to loads as we are not in London.

liahgen · 28/02/2008 00:07

where do you live Soph?

there are big agencies in Manchester too, would that be easier for you? My bf, cousin runs one of the more successful ones. I could check the name and phone number if it would help.

I live in Kent. I allow 2 hours to get to a central London shoot, if you could do it in that time, thats ok.
Don't be disheartened.

tyac · 28/02/2008 18:06

Hi all.

Still undecided about whom to go with, have been getting phonecalls now asking for girls to go for assessments and more e.mails.
Norrie Carr, Kitsch and kolors??????
Really don't want to rush into this, as want to try and find the most suitable, as its a lot of money to pay out for both of them.

feel a bit pressure by some of them at the moment, even been giving passwords to look at the chilren to show how my girls looks, age, ect are not common...if that makes sense??
all though personally one of my girls is blonde and blue eyed and i see them everywhere..maybe its because she is very small.
My daughters are on my case too now wanting me to decide and obviously the agencies have a timescale, MOT is to of my list at moment, but am waiting to hear back from KL and have even thought about waiting till the top ones reopen their books.
Guess i am just rambling now,
decisions.
What can we expect to happen at one of the asessments ect??

thanks for the help everyone,

tyac · 28/02/2008 18:11

Good luck Tallie,

liahgen · 28/02/2008 19:49

assessments are to look at the personality of the child and hopw they react to strangers etc.

I would be a bit annoyed tbh if our agency gave out passwords to someone who wasn't registered. No offence but you could be anyone. Who was that?

Mot is a very reputable agency, don't rush into it, make sure it has the right "feel " for you and your kids.

Let us know how you get on.

tyac · 28/02/2008 20:34

Hi liahgen

i totally agree with you about the password,

The girls are both very bubbly and outgoing so hopefully will be ok, guess it depends what the agency are looking for.

IS their certain ages when kids do better with certain agencies?

will keep u informed.

sunshine0 · 28/02/2008 21:27

Liahgen, would you mind letting me have the details of agencies you'd recommend in Manchster. thanks

julie4travel · 28/02/2008 22:08

tyca - good luck in your decisions
dont let them pressurize you, i took 6 months to decide when we changed agents. we nearly went with norrie carr, we met them and they seemed very nice they do quite a lot of tv work aswell as photographic. they said they would put photos on site and start submitting straight away which was good. also kids london normally reply very quickly within about 5 days so not long to wait.

good luck in whoever you decide

sunshine0 - there is boss in manchester who is supposed to be good.

PurpleStar13 · 29/02/2008 17:08

Hi - I am hoping someone can give me some advice.

My DS is 16months old. I have recently had emails from Norrie Carr and Elisabeth Smith, accepting him onto their books (NC offers an assessment firstly)

I am slightly confused as to what to do, as both these agencies are of the High Fee charging type. I have also applied to a couple of other agencies (but haven't heard anything yet), but the two cheaper agencies I would like to apply with (Scallywags and Bruce & Brown?) are not accepting applications until later on in the year. So what should I do??

ES email states that you have 30 days from the date of email to accept their offer.

Now I dont know whether to apply to one of these ones, or wait until later on in year and hope he gets accepted by one of them?? Am v.confused.

Or should I take him to NC assessment to see if they think he is model potential in the first place??

Any advice please?

liahgen · 29/02/2008 17:21

Hi Purple star,

perosnaLLY i would say again, don't be rushed into anything. If ES want your child they will still want him in 5 weeks.

I went to assessment with Es and although very professional, (they have been going 40 yrs) i felt it was very them and us iykwim. There were lots pictures on the walls but lots of the same kids. Having spoke to people who have been with them, have been told she can be a bit known for having favourites, all very well if you are one but not recommended as much if you are not. Don't know how true that was but, i then went to Bubblegum, where my then 2 yr old potty trainer wanted a wee. Heather, (owner)_ whipps out this potty from under the desk, He does wee, she shoves it back under saying, I'll sort that in a bit. We registered with them.

liahgen · 29/02/2008 17:22

sorry, forgot sunshine, My friend is at a meeting today but will ask her over the weekend when I see her.

PurpleStar13 · 29/02/2008 17:26

Thanks Liahgen

I have just been looking on another website that is v. anti child modelling, many people saying that it ruins the childs life, makes them obnoxious, etc etc.

Another problem to add to the conscience!!!

Where about are bubblegum based out of interest?

liahgen · 29/02/2008 18:17

purple star, there will always be little prima donnas in all walks of life. Others may be jealous, just ignore them.

In all my years of doing this, my kids have never behaved in that kind of way, they'd soon be brought back down to earth if they did.
Bubblegum are hertfordshire based, used to be Ealing. Tragically heather died a couple of yeras ago from breast cancer, she was 41 and left behind a little boy who was then 4. The agency had a rough year or so, but Ian, hr husband is working on getting it back to where it was, it's a fab agency, known to all tv,photographers and lots films too. One of her boys was the yougest boy in Nanny McPhee. Heather was very well respected in the industry.
