HI all, have started our new thread, thought it was a good time to do so, as nobody seemed to be mid-conversation, at least I hope so!!!
Lets hope its a great month for us all

OP posts:
brooke77 · 09/04/2008 17:15

good luck to my dd (and me !) for her 1st casting tomorrow !

liahgen · 09/04/2008 18:15

Buttermilk, yeah, they'll probably have couple outfits for her to try on. Could be there 5 mins or once we wrere at a fitting 3 hours!!!

Pay is slightly more than casting though. Good luck.

Am taking ds1 to mercedes casting tomorrow, should be good.

mummyeme · 09/04/2008 19:30

Good luck brooke77, whats the casting for?, seems like most people are out and about at castings/ jobs tomorrow.
Good luck to everyone else as wellx

buttermilk · 09/04/2008 21:05

three hours, what was that just trying stuff on, do u ever get a job from a fitting, or is that wishfull thinking

liahgen · 09/04/2008 21:43

3 hours was loads kids trying stuff on and being photographed wearing it. They had earmarked kids for specific outfits and were just double checking it seemed.

We did actually get 2 whole days work out of it.

That was unusual, normally you in and out at a fitting, and ime, they usually have chosed the kids and are just checking the clothes.

julie4travel · 10/04/2008 07:22

good luck to all with castings this week

liahgen- good luck with mercedes - we had casting calls for a mercedes ad the other week yet that would have been for a different ad as that would have filmed the other weekend.

dreadlocks · 10/04/2008 15:36

Buttermilk
We have had a few fittings in the past for my ds.I think basically the company want to see what the clothes look like on real children . Yes you just try on a few costumes, best one we had was one jumper and got paid £60.00, it took all of 5 mins. The company may call you back for more fittings as long as your child remains the right size, not sure if it would lead to actual job as the people present are more designers than advertising/publicty .
hope this helps.

Who is with sw on here and is it true they charge 37.5% commission?

julie4travel · 11/04/2008 12:18

hi totally - we used to be with them and it was 25% when we were with them.

liahgen - how did the mercedes casting go?

liahgen · 11/04/2008 14:29

was good thanks, for him and the other 100 kids!! Why do they see so many? Always makes me laugh, surely there aren't that many different looks. Were seeing adults too.
We'll probably get this one, as shooting is next Weds, my dd's 3rd birthday!!

We pay 25% comission, 37 seems excessive.

mummyeme · 11/04/2008 15:30

Hi,
Not with sw, but I think their photographic rate is around that figure. The filming commission rate is around 25% I think.
Hope that helps

totallyfloaty35 · 11/04/2008 17:19

my friends dd been offered a place with them, but i was horrified by their rates, didnt believe her at first, but she just emailed the info to me.Told her not to bother

lilylu · 11/04/2008 17:50

Gosh.. thats gone up then !! i hope all the other agencies dont follow suit !

dreadlocks · 11/04/2008 19:41

Hi,
Yes photographic is 37.5 but they also put their rates up by that amount so model stil gets the same amount as before. Not quite sure on the logic of that one.

ichef · 12/04/2008 12:38

Hi everyone, no time to post this week work is really tiring and baby is getting heavier by the minute.
In the end we decided to stick to KL as dh said would be better to have them both with the same agent which makes sense, we'll try and soften them up ds had a casting on thurs but I was at work so dh had to take him.
I have the impression that ds will do a lot better than dd here in the uk, I could tell she was slightly sad he got the first casting but she probably better get usd to it.
Anyway hope you all have a good weekend, I have to work can't wait to maternity leave!

JAZZ4494 · 12/04/2008 18:25

Hi ichef, my dd has recently been accepted onto KL books, i'm just crossing my fingers that she will have a casting soon. How long have you got before baby no 2 arrives?

ichef · 13/04/2008 12:50

JAZZ, how old is your dd?
My baby is due in July so not very long, this is actually baby no 3, we're about to find out for sure if it's a boy or a girl although I'm 99% sure it's another boy

JAZZ4494 · 13/04/2008 17:29

Ichef, i was convinced that my first was a girl, and my second a boy. When they were born i was wrong both times. My instincts were totally wrong there.

My dd is 9 yrs old, we hope that she will get some good photograhpic work from KL. It's only been 3 weeks so far, so i know that i have to be patient. Have your children done much with KL?

totallyfloaty35 · 13/04/2008 23:36

My 10yr old dd is with KL,she not had much so far.A couple of castings and 1 job in the last 10 months. But then it could be her look. I do find KL quite scary, they rarely reply to emails and never seem to have any idea who we are when we call.
I think they have a core of favourites who get a lot of jobs, but we dont live in London so we dont get the last minute jobs. But KL are a very good agency and you may find your kids really have the look for them as they are very high end photographic.

K20 · 13/04/2008 23:51

DD and DS did a photographic shoot Friday for August edition of a lifestyle mag. Both were freezing cold pretending it was a lovely August day ... in reality they were being photographed in April on a bright, sunny but cold and windy beach.

julie4travel · 14/04/2008 08:05

liahgen - fingers crossed on a recall for you, it seems to me most commercial castings have loads of kids there - we just don't seem to get one in the bag!

K20 - we had a shoot last year like that, beginning of may, swimwear on a windy beach - it was freezing and in between shots was throwing a dressing gown, towels etc round my dd to warm her up! i couldnt believe it a first proper shoot like that. she was great though and they used 3 shots of her so we were pleased.

jazz4494 - fingers crossed you get a call soon, we generally find its about a 8 week wait for something from being put on a agents books.

Good luck to all this week

JAZZ4494 · 14/04/2008 13:53

Totallyfloaty35, has your dd got fair hair or another colour? and are the pictures you sent up to them professional shots? Do you think that it would help to get professional pics done and send them up, to give them a better chance in being selected for castings.

Someones said that i should not expect to here from them until she has been on their books for about 2-3 months. But to be honest i would like to think that as soon as they have accepted her they would be putting her name forward for photographic work as soon as they can.

Is there any way to establish exactly what my dd looks like on their books, like a password access, similar to acting agencies?

Many people adviced me to put her forward for KL, because they were so good, I only had a couple of negative reactions. So I truly hope that they live up to their reputation.

ichef · 14/04/2008 14:00

Jazz - my dd is nearly 8 and ds is 3 and from what I gather from people's/agencies reaction it looks as if ds is going to have more opportunities than dd here, we'll see about that, maybe we'll meet at a casting as our dds are nearly same age?

K20 - DD did something like that once, I felt really guilty as next day she came up with a cold and fever, promised myself I wouldn't let her do that again.

ichef · 14/04/2008 14:17

Jazz - I'm sure they'd start putting her forward as soon as they can, unless we were really lucky (which apparently is what the girl from the agency told my dh when she called for the casting last week) but I don't see why it'd take them so long for them to start putting her forward, maybe what they mean is it could take up to 2-3 months to start getting castings?

JAZZ4494 · 14/04/2008 14:40

ichef, Yes you're right, i should learn to be a bit more patient. I know they will ring up when a casting comes up. I spoke to them as soon as she was accepted and they were helpful and courteous, which is always a good sign. He told me to just wait until we get her a casting.

I was a bit surprised that they don't want to see the children in person or take professsional shots. I suppose that's how it works in the world of kids modelling.

Fingers crossed for anyone going for casings this week.
