Hi I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy with JIA , I put in a change of circumstances to dla as he gets low care but this was awarded for his mental health before his diagnosis and change in care needs . I have been told my application must sit in queue for 17 weeks before it’s looked at . I have been doing some research online about this wait time and seem to find nothing . Would love some advise on other people currently waiting on a coc .

Am in week 22 tomorrow called up today and it hasn’t been looked at. They said current wait times are 25 weeks at the moment. Does any one have any updates

Angeldust12 · 17/01/2023 09:27

I can not understand how some take forever and other are really quick I was so lucky with my sons it was so quick and the MR only took 4 weeks

ASDmummy2019 · 18/01/2023 09:34

@Angeldust12 was yours a COC yeah? Mines still not been looked at 23 weeks and counting 🙄

Angeldust12 · 18/01/2023 10:09

Well originally I did COC took about 5 weeks they sent back and moved him from high rate to medium rate I asked for a MR which only took a few weeks they upheld their decision to keep him on medium rate even though he was on a ventilator 🤔 then he came off ventilator so filled out a new form for COC and they put him on high rate care and high rate mobility for 5 years and that took 5 weeks its so confusing how they make these decisions and take so long or so quick and most of the time unfair

Omg so i logged my appeal in december, I've just had a call off dla they have over turned their decision and they have gave him HRM for 6 years until the day before his 17th birthday 😁 I'm absolutely over the moon for him, i can't believe it I'm in total shock about it. The woman i spoke to was absolutely lovely and so understanding. Keep up the fight ladies xx

Hello Ladies
Ive been stalking this feed for months! We put a change of circumstances in, scan date aug 30th so we are week 21 now. They told us ours should be looked at by 22 weeks - obviously I won’t hold my breath! Anyone any recent updates? What about the ladies who were waiting and on week 21 prior to Christmas?
it’s so frustrating!! Our children deserve better!

LyndseyBagguley · 04/02/2023 16:48

@Nik201 I've been stalking your message for an update🤣 Have DLA been in touch yet? I called Friday 3rd Feb, they said they are working to have a decision by week 22. Our week 22 will be Wednesday coming. So fingers crossed. X

Nik201 · 04/02/2023 20:21

😂. We waited 22 weeks and 2 days! We didn’t get the result we wanted… waiting for the paperwork through and will appeal. Hope it’s good news for you 😘 x

CJP90 · 04/02/2023 20:35

My scan says for COC was July and we was awarded with Higher Rate from Middle Rate Care and back pay in the middle of January. Long wait was like 24 weeks but so happy they decided to change the decision, now we have just put an MR in for mobility as they rejected it again. Fingers crossed! Anyone experienced MR and know rough wait times? He really does need it as we struggle on a daily basis when out and Ava out. He turns 4 in March and we still need the pram most of the time especially long journeys. X

Nik201 · 05/02/2023 06:46

I’m have this same issue with mobility except my boy is 7 and the size of a 10-11 year old. He has no danger awareness… what am I meant to do when he refuses to walk…? carry him 🙈. We have a blue badge ect all ready so I don’t get how we have been refused I’ve documented evidence about him been developmentally delayed also 🙈🙈🙈 I’m waiting for the award notice to come through and doing a MR x

Nik201 · 05/02/2023 07:09

Ps from experience you’ll really struggle to get mobility under the age of 5.

Lianney84 · 05/02/2023 12:08

Hi I did Mr in December for mobility the decision wasn't over turned so tribunal now which I'm expecting that to take ages. My son is 7 nearly 8 and has no danger awareness and will shout out at the public if he's anxious it only takes someone to look at him and he's off any kind off public transport is a no no even appointments it only takes a smell a noise or someone to look at him.. he's the size off a 13 year old and he's nearly 8 now and he's so heavy to keep restrained for his safety and will just run off in situations he's not comfortable with.. he's physically hits me in public when trying to retrain him then people stare and then that starts me off as it looks like i have no control over him and that as a mother to a special needs child makes me feel terrible. Even though he has his lanyard on stating his condition.

Lianney84 · 05/02/2023 12:09

It took four weeks for the decision for the Mr by the way

CJP90 · 05/02/2023 13:30

I totally understand! One of the criteria to meet mobility is danger awareness to put self and others at harm I don’t know why our children don’t meet this when they don’t understand a busy road etc. My son is 4 but tall too and when he refuses to walk if I don’t bring the pram it’s such a struggle. Things like waiting at a crossing he will swing from my hand and I’ve constantly got to restrain him I feel awful for them x

Yeah I have been told this as it has to meet the Higher Mobility Criteria as Lower is over 5. I’m hoping my paediatricians input on his letter will support but I think I will have to go tribunal. X

Nik201 · 05/02/2023 14:51

I hope you wipe the floor with them at tribunal x

Lianney84 · 05/02/2023 18:16

I've done a diary off his day to day and his travel to and from school also 72 miles a day special needs school. He can't travel by local transport anymore no one can meet his needs on travel even with assistant. My son is certainly and danger to himself myself and others verbally ,but physically with me he can even get out off a wrist strap. it's like he's walking me when he has it on😱🤣😬😭 he's a big boy down to his medication he's on I've had to stop is meds until I can get some control and help with weight...

SapYap · 09/02/2023 22:09

We are week 23 for a COC confirmation received 3/9. I phoned at week 22 got told it hadn't even been looked at yet my patience is wearing thin.

Gemzie1993 · 11/02/2023 17:18

Same! Literally had enough now

Nik201 · 16/02/2023 09:42

I’ve just done a MR for my son. I felt like they’d not even really looked at the new info I sent them so let’s see what they say! If they say no this time I’ll give up until the end of his award but at least I know I’ve tried my hardest for him x

Gemzie1993 · 16/02/2023 10:14

Waited 25 weeks coc hoping for higher mobility. We haven’t had a car for 2 years. We have been unable to afford one. We spent the whole 6 weeks holidays indoors because we arnt local to any transportation, or safe spaces to take him. We can’t get from a-b on foot because of this unpredictable behaviour, danger awareness, obsession with cars and unpredictable noises. He’s a tall, strong 7 year old the size of a 10 year old, adhd and autistic and hyper mobility. Is extremely clumsy (will trip over his own feet) we can’t get him to therapy’s unless we get a taxi. School transport is stoping next year and to get him to school will be 2buses and two trains there and back. We have no support regarding nhs as he was signed off at 2 when he had a autism diagnosis.

honestly so deflated. How long for appeals? And success rates please? 😭

Gemzie1993 · 16/02/2023 10:15
  • was ment to say we have been rejected today.
LyndseyBagguley · 19/02/2023 13:01

Hello finally had our decision for our daughter aged 3. Waited 23 weeks + 4 days. She's been given low rate care and high rate mobility. So we're happy with that. Hope everyone else is going on okay.

Anyone know how long they are taking if you appeal to decision following a COC?
