Hi I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy with JIA , I put in a change of circumstances to dla as he gets low care but this was awarded for his mental health before his diagnosis and change in care needs . I have been told my application must sit in queue for 17 weeks before it’s looked at . I have been doing some research online about this wait time and seem to find nothing . Would love some advise on other people currently waiting on a coc .

@Cass29 congrats your wait is finally over so happy u got the result u wanted... @Liverpoolgirl40 yes I've got a brand new car now don't want to get rid off it but its a lease car I change every 6months it's just a shame I have to pay for the miles after my limit. Yes all please stay here and keep us ladies who are waiting going lol u give us hope haha

Liverpoolgirl40 · 19/11/2022 17:19

@Lianney84 thank you. We were awarded medium rate care so I’m sort of happy, although have decided to appeal it. My sons difficulties definitely indicate high rate care. I wasn’t going to bother but I’m upon thinking today, I will appeal xx

Lianney84 · 19/11/2022 17:37

@Liverpoolgirl40 yes I don't blame you.. my son is such hard work its exhausting some days but I no it can't be helped every need he has. Although my night times are much better now he's medicated by peaditrician I'm finally starting to get a few hours in at night and waking up better and not feeling like death threw lack off sleep. Hope your appeal goes well. Xxxx

Mkd1322 · 19/11/2022 21:03

@Liverpoolgirl40 are you putting in for the mr? Its only taking a few weeks to do at the moment i think. Im a week in so can let you know how long it takes xx

Angeldust12 · 19/11/2022 21:03

Just when I phoned to check if they had received my form lady was confused as to why I'd had to send another form in and why they don't just accept the change of circumstances over the phone.

Mkd1322 · 19/11/2022 21:04

@Lianney84 what have you applied for the vuw or smi for the high rate mobility? Xx

Mkd1322 · 19/11/2022 21:06

@Angeldust12 i think they just like to make it awkward. Would be so much easier over the phone and then to send in the evidence or even email it xx

Angeldust12 · 19/11/2022 21:07

I appealed as I done coc and they moved me from high rate to medium only change I made was he was no longer NG tube fed he was still on a ventilator overnight and they moved him to medium rate I appealed decision and they upheld and left him on medium rate.

Liverpoolgirl40 · 20/11/2022 09:24

@Angeldust12 im sorry to hear that. That’s a disgrace! Who makes these decisions? Well I know that because my friends told me. People with zero experience who are told in training to use Google if they don’t know about a health condition! It’s a joke of a system that needs a major overhaul xx

Lianney84 · 20/11/2022 10:09

@Mkd1322 hiya I'm not sure what you mean I've just done coc hoping to go from lower to higher so I can choose the car scheme instead off allowernce

Lianney84 · 20/11/2022 10:12

@Angeldust12 how can they lower ur reward from high to middle rate all seems very confusing..Good luck on your appeal xxx

Mkd1322 · 20/11/2022 10:44

For higher rate mobility you have to prove either virtually unable to walk or severely mentally impaired ill try put the criteria on here to show you xx @Lianney84

Mkd1322 · 20/11/2022 10:46

@Angeldust12 have you took it to tribunal? I think it's disgusting what these decision makers do to these children.xx

Lianney84 · 20/11/2022 11:09

@Mkd1322 I have just put his reasons down he's a danger to himself I take him out on a strap round his wrist we I do have to walk him anywhere the list is endless... I've got his special needs school reports all that explained by his one on one aswell luckily so finger crossed we in for a chance. I get lower rate atm mobility.

Lianney84 · 20/11/2022 11:10

If I do have to walk him anywhere I meant. Even by car I can't go out on my own with him driving he's unpredictable and things change in a split second with him luckily I have window locks aswell as child locks on my car or he'd be out the window or door given the chance

Angeldust12 · 20/11/2022 11:32

I have no idea nor do the advisors I've spoken to on the phone

Lianney84 · 20/11/2022 11:57

@Angeldust12 awww thanks for that I'm going to order one now so helpful loves these groups even the little things like that can help loads. 😀 xxxx

I’ve rang them twice I sent in a coc for my eldest on the 15th of July they’ve sent me a renewal as it’s due to be renewed in January I d had to fill it out all again still not heard it’s not even been looked at the coc. My youngest sons is a new claim and his hasn't been looked at either that was august. I find them so rude to ring

Lottielouwho23 · 20/11/2022 13:54

Surely they should back date it to when they received the change of circumstances form I said to them on the phone so you want me to fill out the same form with and send all the same evidence in again that you already have for his renewal she said yeah 🤦🏻‍♀️ if people on here applied in June and are only just receiving decisions then I’ve got ages to go. I could believe she said neither of the claims had even been looked at they’ve just been sat there for months and months. Also disgusted some of you don’t get any mobility I don’t for my eldest he goes to a special needs school has severe Autism and he’s the only pupil in his school doesn’t recieve high rate care and high rate mobility he got diagnosed at 2 aswell some don’t even have a diagnosis. :-( if they’re at that school they pretty much have the same level of care need. Don’t think half of the decision makers know what they’re looking at.

Woke up to a payment pending in my account. I've done the math and it looks like she's gone from LRC and no mobility to MRC and LRM which is exactly what I was hoping they would award her, so I'm very happy. Just over 22 weeks wait, glad it's finally done.
