Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

morning all, glad you got the scans Pippi, hows the bug situation Rosa, is it out in force yet?
Can I just ask you, how much would you say is reasonable to pay for a 2 week holiday in August at Lake Como (taking your advice I think Brangelina)? DP wants to pay about 10 pence and I think I may be a bit extreme the other way so I have very little perspective about what is reasonable

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2008 09:32

Hot I loved dancing days!
Gio depends on the kind of accomodation... are you planning to rent or going to a hotel? Brangelina is the lake como's expert!
it's practically summer here today!

gio71 · 02/03/2008 09:59

rental definitely, want a small apartment near a beach with a balcony or terrace
gorgeous day in Rome too after a vile few days
Buona domenica tutte

francagoestohollywood · 02/03/2008 10:36

I suppose ity will also depend on the location, but don't have the slightest idea. We have been looking to rent a house (with friends) in sardegna (southern coast) at it was 2.500 euros a week for an 8 people villa . In fact we are still clueless as were to go... . too expensive!

Rosa · 02/03/2008 16:34

Well after another day yesterday of 38.5 and this am at 39 and another terrible night we went to have her checked over again . She has a red throat but that could be her cough. Doc said this flu should start to show improvement by tom ...If she still has high temp domani then we have a ricetta for antibiotics. She slept 3 hrs this afternoon in my arms and woke up and ate a yoghurt so I am well happy. LOL whilst there SIL rang to ask about her ds who had a cough that had gone from secco to cavernoso-and had a febbre of 37.5 !!!!!! Nonna and Zia say we MUST call her paed domani when he comes back from hols ( as it is probable that the 2 docs we have seen are total rubbish ) +we should give her the antibiotics anyway . Thankfully Dh just raises his eyebrows !
Gio Como I would have thought would be caro ( as all places in August ) Brangelinia is boogying ( SP) to the cure but I guess she will be able to indicate more. Know of a lovely B&B up there villatresjolie.com !!!!

Rosa, sorry to hear your dd is still so unwell, the paed told me that the temp can go on for 4-5 days with this virus... dd threw up again last night...

gio71 · 03/03/2008 08:52

Rosa how is dd this morn? Made me re Nonna and Zia saying 2 docs probably rubbish, sounds very similar to Nonno at this end who believes in getting about 5 different medical opinions for each complaint, all of which he dismisses perche non capiscono niente, choosing only to believe the one who gives the worst case scenario. I have a tendancy to be superficiale apparently in my tendancy to happlily aqccept what ds's paed says without querying it.....
Brangelina how was The Cure? Can I bombard you with questions on Lake Como as have decided to take your advice from a month or so ago and go there for summer holiday. You mentioned Gera and some cottages to rent previously, I am having real difficulty getting anything there via Google, have you any ideas. What we are looking for ideally is an apartment/cottage with balcony/terrace/garden ideally within walking distance of restaurants etc for evening so dp can have a drink and easy reach of beach. Also do you know Lido di Lenno, seems to be a sandy beach there, was wondering what it was like and what areas were near to look at staying in as if I have a choice I prefer sand to shingle. Feel free to tell me to go and pester a travel agent with these questions by the way , I won't take offence.
Oh I hate Mondays, really should start work but can't be bothered to get out of pyjamas...

hotHELL · 03/03/2008 09:18

Hi all, rosa, did the doc check her chest for possible infection? It sounds like she has a virus that is doing the rounds here, endless fever, vomiting, etc...
Nause is back with a vengeance, at least i had some days of reprieve...
Going to try and get organised this am and achieve something....
Sardegna is hugely expensive in the summer I agree. I always find it hard to think of somewhere to go in august in Italy, maybe somewhere in the mountains, but then we mostly want sun and sea for our holidays...

Rosa · 03/03/2008 09:32

Temp down a bit and she is more in se G Parents here and that is a great cure ! Holding off antibiotics for the mo. Hot she was checked over for everythig and has no specific infection , throat , chest , ears hence its a nasty virus.
I know Lido di Lenno , its nice, off the main road, not much there couple of trattorie I think Hotel Lenno ( !!) Trying to think about other sandy areas round there . Lake will be cold to swim !!!
Lovely day here should be raining according to the forecast and I'm stuck in.

Good that the temp is down, these viruses are so horrible , especially when there's nothing much you can do or give them

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 10:55

Ciao a tutte.

Pippi, I'm rh- but never had a jab at 34 weeks, only a test di coombs blood test which would tell me if I needed on or not. Like Rosa I had the jab after the CVS and after the birth when they found out DD was rh+. HTH.

The Cure concert was fab, particularly at the end when they played all their old boppy stuff. Rosa, I tried to wiggle madly to Lovecats but I was standing precariously on a chair in silly shoes so decided to be subdued. The place was packed, I spent most of the concert peering though DP's nonna's opera glasses so I could actually see the stage. I must say that Robert Smith has become quite podgy, I never realised from seeing him on telly. He was excellent though, sang for a whole 3 hrs without once getting hoarse and croaky. I would heartily recommend seeing them if you get the chance. It was quite funny, on the way there DP was worried we'd taken the wrong road, then we spied in the car next to us 4 people with frighteningly backcombed hair and instantly knew we were going the right way.

Gio, I'll ask DP to ask his friend the name of the agency they used last year. He had a place in Colico, just across the way from Gera, a 3 bed family house in a complex with swimming pool not far from the beach and bars and apparently it wasn't expensive (but then he is a dentist so that might be relative). There's another friend who lives in Valmadrera who might know someone too. I'll keep you posted. I don't know Lido di Lenno (although it does ring a bell) but DP might as it's his "manor", so to speak.

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 14:25

Rosa, glad to hear she's feeling a bit better.
E' primavera qui, yesterday there were 25 degrees at Castello Sforzesco!

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 14:25

what does wiggle mean?

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 14:51

Tipo sculettata. There is a word DP uses but I can't remember it atm.

We were at the lake in t-shirts yesterday, it was so warm, even in the shade.

gio71 · 03/03/2008 14:55

love love love spring in Italy, am feeling very lucky to live here and very smug towards friends back in Manc

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 15:47

is wiggle "pogare"?

Gio, a friend in Exeter gave me detailed descriptions of the manchester weather, I don't think I would have lasted alive for more than a few months up north ! Mind you, nothing beats those perfect, warm summer days in England (those described as "heat wave"), where everything seems so still and the hills just glisten in the sunshine... I'm going all nostalgica

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 17:10

DD didn't get a school place

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 17:12

I hate Monza. The worse thing is, I saw someone on the list who is in exactly the same situation as me but somehow had 5 points more on the graduatoria. Methinks palms have been greased somewhere.

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 18:17

! I can't believe it! che citta' di merda! how were the points allocated?
what are you going to do?

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 18:19

how can anyone have 5 points?
here you get 15 points for choosing the closest school
1 point per extra child
1 per working parents
and 0-3 (I think) with the ISEe
plus points if the child has SN (can't remember how many)
how can she have 5 points more than you do?

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 19:05

You get 13 points for being in zona, plus 6 if both parents work, plus 3 or something if child is already at nido. You get an extra 5 points if there is already a sibling at the school, but this boy is an only child. Otherwise you get extra points for SN but not sure how many and the boy is not SN.

Now I have to ring the comune (or so they told me at the school) to see if there any places in the comunali/statali elsewhere. Of course there won't be, so I will have to end up ringing around the religiose and pouring 200/300 euros or more a month in Vatican coffers as we won't get any sconto becasue we are over 40k euro dell'ISEE. Sigh. I'm tempted to be arsey to the comune and demandi that they subsidise a place at the International school in quanto siamo atei and international. Maybe I should write to the local paper, but the brianzoli are not bothered, they all have nonni nearby. I know, I'll write to Striscia!

Rosa · 03/03/2008 19:55

Oh NO what a totally terrible thing. I thought that she had to be given a statale place anyway ...Here you get allocated the school nearest to you . SIL tried to get her dd in another school which has an excellent reputation. She ended up being 3rd on the waiting list . SIL then found out that some people had 'suddenly changed residency to be in the catchment area 'On being challenged the school simply said some people are more furbi signora !!!She replied and said well others are just stupidly honest !
YOu can't be expected to pay for suore surely ..Your dd has a right to be educated..am very miffed on your behalf.
DD getting better dh getting worse........

OP posts:
gio71 · 03/03/2008 20:46

I can't believe this, I thought the same as Rosa, surely you can't be expected to pay! I don't understand how there can be a problem with school places when the birth rate is the lowest in Europe (or am I just being stupid.

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 20:51

I went to have a look on the Monza website, they only have 1 comunale and 6 statali . Here I have 5 scuole materne comunali in less than 1.2 km radius !
I'm a bit worried, how do I recognize an attacco di appendicite? dd woke up after 1 hr sleep complaining of maldipancia, she is now in my bed, went back to sleep but she moans every 10 mins. I know I'm apprehensive but I'm worried

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 21:33

Apparently the materna is not obbligatoria, unlike the primary, so the state don't have to guarantee you a place. I so wish I hadn't moved from Milano now, DD would have gone to that lovely nido statale in via Arena, followed by the materna in the same place. DP and I would have probably killed each other from lack of space, but at least DD would have had a school place. If we had the contapassi here in Monza we'd have had more points as it's literally 150m door to door.. Oh well, we'll see what the comune say tomorrow and go from there.

I agree that there are always furbi, I have my suspicions about this one person on the list, don't know the others but who knows there. DP told me that his ds only got a place becasue his ex knew someone at the time, so I reckon this is his sin coming back to haunt us.

Appendicite - acute pain in lower right hand quadrant of abdomen, especially when pressed (it really is painful to touch, not just a dull ache). Often accompanied by diaorrhea, vomitting and a fever.
