Ciao - Everybody Welcome.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 21:44

the asilo in via Arena is lovely... god I love that area! Digliene 4 in comune tomorrow... ... what are your other options? I can't believe that the asili privati paritari in Monza are all run by nuns !
I'm a bit worried with dd, she vomited twice in the last 3 days, I put it down to a mild virus, what if she has something more serious? dh has gone playing football and I'm here going all apprehensive, just panicking.

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 22:04

The only other options I have if I don't want to go with the suore are the International school, which I loved, but is expensive and no dopo scuola, or the bilingual school, which I didn' think much of at all, is almost as expensive but at least has a dopo scuola. With either option I'd be spending around 10K for the first year alone, plus we'd need a second car as neither are close and on our way, so more expense and I'd have to start driving again (gulp).

Alternatively (and this is really scary), I could hang on till August to see if the provveditorato decide to open another section in the materna statale, in which case DD would definitely have a place. This would happen if there was enough richiesta at the time (ie names on the waiting list) but if it doesn't then September will come and we won't have a school place anywhere. No one's ever nutty enough to put themselves in that situation, which is why a new section is never opened as come August there's no more waiting list.

Do you think I could insist on no religious education with the catholic schools? After all, I'd only be sending her there because we don't have a place in the scuola laica...

If your DD doesn't have a fever after 3 days she's probably OK, as in no appendicite. Have you tried touching the appendix? It's around the hip bone area. Is she eating and drinking normally? My DD had a virus or something last year where she only vomitted once or twice at night (and what vomit - think esorcista) but was fine the rest of the time. It lasted about 4 or 5 days I think, then disappeared. no fever, no anything and it didn't stop her eating. Is this like your DD's symptoms?

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 22:18

! I'm really and on your behalf.
with the international to you mean sjh? you could ask a lift to the driver I met when I visited, big suv, blackened window
would you like me to email you the prices of the dc's scuola materna?
she vomited wednesday night. then saturday night. No temp. Not big appetite but has eaten. she is now asleep in my bed but moans in her sleep every 10 mins.

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 22:21

I would visit the catholic ones (choosing the least offensive names ) and have a chat. Yes, I'd mention you are not religious and explain the situation. But i'd give it a try. Honestly, the dc's asilo is not too far away (it'd be 7 mins of tram se non ci fosse il traffico), but it already is a pita. I really don't advise to travell long distances... if you can avoid it.

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 22:23

god, look at me suggesting to try with the nuns... !
honstly I wouldn't know which is the less evil, nuns or commuting in the milanese traffic

ahundredtimes · 03/03/2008 22:24

Oooh Franca. There you are. I've been wondering where you've been. Have you moved back then?

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 22:35

The international one is not sjh, it's the international school of Monza. Very nice too, I'd have liked to go there myself but alas a tad beyond budget esp when you have to add the cost of the babysitter who'll have to pick her up, plus the centro estivo for July. I could cope for a year or 2 if we didn't have to pay such a high registration fee (?1500!). Yes, do email me the cost of your dc's school, I'm curious. It's religious too, isn't it? Have you had lots of stories and songs about Gesù yet or are they laid back?

I will try the church schools, basically as I have no option but to do so. I'll explain my situation and hope they'll go for it. The little boy downstairs goes to one in the same road as our tanto sospirato materna so I'll try that one first.

If your DD is moaning she might have cramps. Is she holding her tummy at all? Is she constipated? Did she have mal di pancia before? It's so hard to tell when they're that age, isn't it? I still haven't figured out if my DD has cystitis or not. The symptoms come and go e vai a capire cosa vogliono dire....

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 22:36

Lol! I've sunk low too even considering them.

DD isn't baptised, will they make a fuss? Tough if they do!

francagoestohollywood · 03/03/2008 22:58

Ahundredtimes hello . Yes, we have moved. Big city, stinky air and no garden (and horrible pigeons). How are you?

Brangelina, no the dc's nursery is not religious, it's lay (is this the right word?)

It might be cramps. No, I don't think she's constipated, she pooed after dinner. She woke up again earlier. If she wakes again I'm tempted to take her to hospital.

Brangelina · 03/03/2008 23:02

Yes, I'd do the same. It's probably nothing but the digestive tract can be tricky so best to get it checked.

gio71 · 04/03/2008 08:55

How's your DD this morning Franca? Did you take her to the hospital?

Brangelina · 04/03/2008 09:53

Yes, how is she? Are you still at pronto soccorso?

Gio, DP is asking his friend re accommodation but in the meatime I found this link or this or even this or this with a few appartments listed.

Rang the comune this morning, couldn't get arsey as spoke to a very camp guy who was very sweet, upshot is I have to wait till next Fri when they have the lists in from the schools.

hotHELL · 04/03/2008 10:14

i thought the school situation was a nightmare only in the uk, surprised it can be like this in Italy!!!!! Knowing the italian way of doing things you might have to go the furba way as well, ohhhhh ,it's hard. Here in London everybody too in fact goes the furba way now that i think about it, with fake vicar's references, fake christening papers, dosh doled out to the local church, or if you are rich you buy a second home next to the best local school and pretend to live in it. It is digusting.
franca how is your dd? taking her to hospital sounds like a very reasonable thing to do.

Your dd will be blessing every meal she eats Brange. You could always offer to do 1 hr a month of english class that should give you another few points.
Franca how are things going ?
WInd has got up here and its very cold again. DH running temp and feeling rubbish. I have a cold but nil compared to him ! DD is much better now just need to feed her up ( sounds like Nonna!)

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 04/03/2008 11:43

ciao, sorry I didn't get back earlier... no, I didn't take her to pronto soccorso as dh reckoned she wasn't ill enough . I'm taking her to see the paed at 6 pm, she is in a good mood, claims it still hurts, but is now playing lady oscar with her brother (who is home today as wasn't feeling well this morning). I think/hope that it's the virus doing the runs at the mo, which causes vomit and mal di stomaco. Anyway, I slept possibly 30 mins...

I think citta' di provincia have a less number of scuole materne (and nidi) because there aren't many wohms (Italy has one of the lowest rate in europe of wohm in Europe).
As for scuole elementari I don't know, I only have the experience of my friends, who send their children to their local schools. Mind you, no ones live in particularly rough areas, so I don't know. Lots of rich Milanese (of a certain kind) go ott and send their children to private ones.

francagoestohollywood · 04/03/2008 18:58

according to paed it's the virus. ds is coming down with it as well, looks like another week stuck home then.
whree are you all? rosa. how's the family bug?

Rosa · 04/03/2008 19:50

BUGGING .....Dh has been 'ill' all day bed, sofa, bed, taking temp every 30 mins ok so he has hit 38 but I think you all know where I am coming from . I have bunged up nose so made a storming chilli!!! G parents were sent on shopping trip this am and this pm it was confined to house due to terrible weather. DD on the mend but was very clingy this pm but don't tell Nonna she had a bath which she loved .
Franca have heard the bug is not nice so hope it passes quickly did he give them anything for the discomfort as I think that is the worse bit by the sounds of things.
Forecast is Snow for domani please no 1) it is dd birthday 2) I need to buy a cake as it never got made today 3) I have to GET out just for 10 mins .
Franca I bet you will find your 4 walls so small when they are ill . I know I pine for space !

OP posts:
gio71 · 04/03/2008 20:13

Hope everyones feeling better soon
Brangelina thanks for those links. I think I may have found a place, do you know what Varenna is like?

francagoestohollywood · 04/03/2008 21:08

happy birthday mini rosa .

snow???? the weather turned nasty here as well, very cold wind and rain. MIght wash away a bit of stinky air though.

Well yes, I pine for space, yes, but most of all I pine for freedom (performs a bit of aretha franklin) . Hopefully tomorrow my mum will look after them and I'll go for - guess what? - yes, waxing. Mind you, they've been lovely today (ds is def under the weather as he's been particularly quiet), they played together very well, apart from an isolated accident when ds asked: "x would you please help me with this jigsaw?" dd ignores him. ds in a kind, warm, very polite voice: x, shall I beat you up now, or later?" I was !

francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 08:27

this morning it was ds's turn to vomit. yuppie!

gio71 · 05/03/2008 08:49

poor you Franca!(and them). How's DD this morn?

Rosa · 05/03/2008 09:53

Oh no ...is dd on the mend then now ? LOL at the beat you up now...I guess thats brotherly love !
Little Rosa is being a monkey so she must be feeling better she still has a hacking cough and runny nose ..It isn't snowing but there is a cold wind.
Varenna is nice. I .If I remember it is a walk along a metal pedana thing to get the ferry. Its quite quiet from what I an remember but pretty Brangelina might know it a bit better.
Dh no longer on his death bed (!!!) but still feeling a bit sorry for himself. I must do something about a birthday cake.......

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2008 11:25

Rosa, yes, sounds like your dd is on the mend... happy birthday!
what are you thinking for the cake? can you make a simple one and cover with yummie icing? or have you got a good pasticceria around you?
ds is feeling sorry for himself too and is watching his old Maisy's tapes...
gotta go and heat the minestra up.
gio have you booked yet? we are still clueless about august.

Brangelina · 05/03/2008 11:54

Ah queste malattie. My DP is exactly like yours Rosa, if he has so much as a cold he has to retire to bed and not participate in housework/childcare/life at all, plus he expects waitress service because he's at death's door. I'm relieved my DD hasn't got anything but no doubt that's going to come back and bite me in the bum at some point when it's most inconvenient. So is this virus vomity then? Just so I'm prewarned, you understand.

Gio, Varenna is lovely, although not much of a beach iirc, but you can just hop on a train and go to Colico or Bellano (though beach at Bellano is a bit primitive). If you're into windsurfing there's a dawn wind at Valmedrera just over the water that's very good apparently, not that I've ever tried it myself as the idea of getting up at dawn to get chucked in cold water doesn't appeal, but DP has mad friends that do it regularly even in winter. If you have a car then loads of places in the mountains within easy reach too.

I haven't sorted anything out holiday wise either as I don't know what period DP and I can get off and we have the whole of August to cover as DD is off nursery and there's no way I'm going to be given 4 weeks holiday from work. Maybe we can persuade nonna to come down for a couple of weeks and I can try and see whether DD will stay with her on her own for a few days. I'm not sure really about leaving her, she'll only just be 3, but that way she'd have some holiday time in clean air. Oh the problems.....
