Calling all smokers who roll their own...............

and before anyone starts, I don't want a debate on the wrongs of smoking, I already know them.

Anyhow, back to the subject.

Since the revelation that DH has the odd cigarette I've also discovered (well he discovered actually as he'd not tried before) that he's pretty good at rolling his own cigarettes. We've decided, since it's a lot cheaper, that he'll roll mine for me too (when I try they come out looking like "gone wrong Cigars that have been cut open on one side" ).

Anyway, at the moment we've just bought a pack of "Golden Leaf" tobacco from the local shop, some slim filters and a pack of green Rizlas.

Now what I want to know is -

What are the differences between all the different papers you can buy to roll your own? (when I bought the green pack there were loads and I bought the green as the lovely shop assistant said that was what most people use).

Are there lots of different types of tips???

What tobacco do you buy - Golden Leaf is ok (and cheap) , but I wouldn't mind spending a little more on some decent stuff given that it works out so much cheaper than buying cigarettes.

Do any of you buy online - and if so from where???

Well you see a properly made roach does filter slightly. Most English people make a basic 'tube' roach which is just like a pea-shooter so occasionally when you inhale, you get some lovely strands of tobacco* flying down your throat. Nice!

But with a proper continental-style roach you sort of concertina the carboard in the middle before rolling it into a round shape, and it really does filter because you have more surface area of cardboard for tarry gunk to cling to, and also nothing can fly down your throat when you are smoking!
And if you ever unroll the roach afterwards you can see how effective it is (not recommended!).

Trust the bloody continentals to have a super-sophisticated roach, just like the way they shit on a shelf so you can inspect it afterwards before you flush it away, instead of plopping it straight into water the way us honest Brits do. But if they're still rolling their own, it's the equivalent of drinking White Lightning out of a wine-glass. Get yourself a decent unpretentious British roach, I say. I've got a roll-up in my gob at the moment. I've just looked down the roach and it's like looking down a gun-barrel. I prefer to think of it as "streamlined", like a wind-tunnel. Lovely.

When I said "rolling their own", I meant rolling their own cigarettes, not rolling their own shit.

Never bothered with filters.... too much faffing around!

It does dry out quicker than Golden Virginia but DH smokes enough that it doesnt really matter.

We used to get GV on the cheap when DH was still in the army, and get the cheap green rizlas from poundland - 10 packs for £1!

Never used a rolling machine - not sure i know how they work lol, i just made DH make mine and then practiced until i made a passable one!

I wouldn't mind getting a bit stoned myself right now but as the great herb seriously lowers my blood sugar and my blood pressure (even if I eat it in marsbar cake)I had to knock it on the head when I found out I was pregnant

Tried knocking the fags on the head too and I was successful for a time and then the money worries and everything else came into play and I'm back on them

Just imagine how wonderful it will be after your 'gestation period' though - bit like meeting up with an old bezzie you've not seen for 10 years; you'll probably have one drag then fall over!!

MY first few smokes after giving up when I found out I was preg with ds were definately a case of one puff and I giggled, fell over and then fell asleep. At least it was cheap

I had my 2nd spinal operation about 4 years ago and was using it 'medicinally' while bedridden a few days after the op, must have been mroeorless chainsmoking .

I finally couldn't put off going to the toilet any longer; got up and just forgot to stop when I became vertical and ended up horizontal again , needless to say I thought the whole thing was hysterical and was giggling as could feel no pain.

I will let you know tomorrow as am going out afterwards for a few bevvies (first time out at something I actually wanted to go to this year so a bit excited)...how sad I have become!

My dh, my then very new bf, thought we would start our night out with some said herb.

My pot man knew I was pregnant before my parents did . My husband bumped into him on the street when I was only just knocked up and he estimated (correctly) that I was overdue for an, errrr, refill on my prescription so DH had to tell him I'd be off the gear for a while.

He's a Uighur from the far west of China (extremely poor region) and I am paralysed with guilt that now he's lost his best customer, some kid in Xinjiang may no longer be going to primary school. Maybe I should stockpile it in the freezer. Kind of like a World Vision sponsorship thing.

Golden Virginia, Swan Extra Slim filter tips and silver rizla papers (I am one of those purists referred to earlier!) I can't stand thicker papers now, I would rather go without a cigarette!!

The thinner papers do take some getting used to though - I think they are harder to roll, but worth the persistence.

I like slim roll-ups so didn't get along with the rolling machine, because it made them too thick.
