Calling all smokers who roll their own...............

and before anyone starts, I don't want a debate on the wrongs of smoking, I already know them.

Anyhow, back to the subject.

Since the revelation that DH has the odd cigarette I've also discovered (well he discovered actually as he'd not tried before) that he's pretty good at rolling his own cigarettes. We've decided, since it's a lot cheaper, that he'll roll mine for me too (when I try they come out looking like "gone wrong Cigars that have been cut open on one side" ).

Anyway, at the moment we've just bought a pack of "Golden Leaf" tobacco from the local shop, some slim filters and a pack of green Rizlas.

Now what I want to know is -

What are the differences between all the different papers you can buy to roll your own? (when I bought the green pack there were loads and I bought the green as the lovely shop assistant said that was what most people use).

Are there lots of different types of tips???

What tobacco do you buy - Golden Leaf is ok (and cheap) , but I wouldn't mind spending a little more on some decent stuff given that it works out so much cheaper than buying cigarettes.

Do any of you buy online - and if so from where???

I liked blue papers, drum gold and swan slimline. Spreading out the tobacco so there are no lumps before you roll really helps.

A vegetarian once told me that blue Rizla were the only ones that didn't use animal-based glue, but that could well be a complete crock. I just liked them because they are thinner.

Rolling a spliff that's so perfectly large, neat and conical it could be the centrefold in High Times is a talent with which I'll have to shock my DD with one day when she's 16 and thinks I am SO UNCOOL. Yes, darling, I shall say, and if you think that's impressive you should see my tiny little metal Hoover for snorting coke. It's all you're getting in the way of heirlooms.

The reason ready-made fags taste so disgusting is that they contain saltpetre to keep them burning. (The stuff they used to get by scraping the walls of urine-soaked cellars; it's an essential ingredient of gunpowder.)

I have never been a smoker, but I have very occasionally enjoyed a roll-up made with liquorice paper.

Divvy - you think I would be corrupted............ermm I was smoking Mbanje (Marijuana) (from coke bottles, bongs and anything else we could lay our hands on) long before I was smoking cigarettes )

fortyplus I had forgotten all about liquorice paper! I used to roll me own, yonks ago, before I became a City ponce and switched to marlboro lights.

I used to get cherry flavoured baccy. I gave up evrytime i was pg but i love rolling my own. Only smoke when with out with other smokers and it's like a real treat. I don't use barbie tampons tho!

lol DH and his brother once used a beach mat to roll a joint!! Imagine the size of that one!!

Don't ever get to smoke proper joints as dh doesn't smoke ciggies so insists on a pipe. Not the same tho.He was alwaqys really good at spliff rolling but has never smoked aanything else.

hi QOQ me and dh have been rolling our own for years a tip on rolling for you; i could never roll them properly either but if you turn the rizla round the wrong way (the glue bit nearest you) then when you roll it, you roll towards you rather than away from you it sounds simple but i still cant roll the other way! hth
