Has anyone else not enjoyed a MN meetup? I went to one a while ago - no names or places mentioned - and apart from two lovely ladies who I only got talking to at the end, Ifound everyone very unfriendly and cliquey. Everyone knew each other already and sat in their little groups ignoring everyone else. Another lady like me was sat on her own the whole time too and funny enough has not been back on here since.
It broke my heart that DD seemed to suffer too as some of the adults were playing a game of rounders and ignored her too in favour of the kids they had met before.

Don't get me wrong - I have seen some fantastic, hertwarming posts on here numerous times, and I will continue to post, but I for one will not be going to another. It was worse than NCT!

Does everyone hate me now?

PS, and no I am not a troll. Just want to hear if it is just me

Do you really think MN is cliquey? Most people on here seem to go out of their way to say hello to new posters (not me though as am serial lurker ).

To ignore someone new at a meet-up is pretty unforgiveable though .

acer · 12/10/2004 12:08

No one has said hello to me yet

mumtochloe · 12/10/2004 12:08

Acer - pls don't let me put you off. It may just have been the one I went to.

Thanks everyone for making me feel normal and not a complete reject. I don't smell and I do wash occasionally! Hairy lip though snmum? Hmmm!

Dejags that's terrible . I'm going to my first meet-up next week and am now even more nervous ...

stickynote · 12/10/2004 12:10

Thanks! Hello!

Hello Acer

Twinkie · 12/10/2004 12:11

Ooohhh dejags how terrible - come to one near us and I promise I will be nice to you - especially if you let me hold your new baby!!

I think it is real difficult - I have met some mumsnetters who I have loads in common with and some that I don't at all - you just try and be polite to all of them but of course some you are going to click with more than others.

Its a shame but on here if I see certain people posting problems I would reply to them first because I feel like I know them and they are my friends rather than new people but persevere and people are mostly friendly and kind and will reply or speak to you after a while.

dinosaur · 12/10/2004 12:11

Certainly, I have enjoyed some more than others, but mi is right - we should all make a conscious effort to chat to new people instead of just catching up with those we already know.

acer · 12/10/2004 12:12

Hello jampot

snmum · 12/10/2004 12:12

I did mean there moustaches you did realise that didnt you? eek!

i have only met 1 mumsnetter in 2 years of posting and we were the only people there so we had to talk to one another and she was lovely, was a bit cliquey though, fed her own children whilst i fed mine. then I was a bit rude as my kids stole food off her children, that sort of thing

stickynote · 12/10/2004 12:12

Thing is, I've never introduced myself in member profiles and I've only posted occasionally (and never said I'm new). If people start a "hi I'm xxx" thread, people always seem to post on it and say hello. So maybe that would be a good start for those who would like to be a bit more involved. Just a thought...

PuffTheMagicDragon · 12/10/2004 12:13

lol snmum

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 12:13

Hey MTC I hope that smelly comment wasn't directed at me???? I've just had my shower and smell fresh as a daisy!

So glad you're getting support hun. I'm over friendly so if we ever meet up you won't be ignored. In fact see the hiding thread...........

Marina · 12/10/2004 12:13

Dejags, just spotted your message. That is awful, I'm so sorry. What a horrid experience.
Hello Acer

jane103 · 12/10/2004 12:14

oh yes and i have read hte thread. seems like there was a misunderstanding.

mumtochloe · 12/10/2004 12:14

Dejags - so sorry. That is how I felt and I felt even worse for DD who looked confused that no-one was playing with her. That was what got me the most. Where was the one you went to? (You don't have to say if you don't want to)

I wouldn't say Mumsnet itself is cliquey but the meetup was and it made me not want to come back on here to be frank, though now I am glad I did

Acer - I have never seen you on here before. Are you a newbie too or do you post on other forums usually?
