Probably Make Me Unpopular but......

Has anyone else not enjoyed a MN meetup? I went to one a while ago - no names or places mentioned - and apart from two lovely ladies who I only got talking to at the end, Ifound everyone very unfriendly and cliquey. Everyone knew each other already and sat in their little groups ignoring everyone else. Another lady like me was sat on her own the whole time too and funny enough has not been back on here since.
It broke my heart that DD seemed to suffer too as some of the adults were playing a game of rounders and ignored her too in favour of the kids they had met before.

Don't get me wrong - I have seen some fantastic, hertwarming posts on here numerous times, and I will continue to post, but I for one will not be going to another. It was worse than NCT!

Does everyone hate me now?

PS, and no I am not a troll. Just want to hear if it is just me

No it seems a little cliquey on here too, but I guess some poeple have been on this site for a long time, whereas I am very new to this.

SpringChicken · 12/10/2004 11:43

Have never been to a meet up before MTC so can't really comment!

Were you reasonable new to mumsnet when you went to a meet-up?

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:43

I hope it doesn't make you unpopular as you're just being honest. If this is the case it may make others think when they have meets? I haven't been to one so can't say

MrsDoolittle · 12/10/2004 11:44

Where do you live? You can come to ours? We are VERY friendly. Our babies are probably a bit younger than your dd though

carla · 12/10/2004 11:45

Good points JD. Haven't been to one either so can't say.

SpringChicken · 12/10/2004 11:46

Can understand that sometimes it may come accross as cliquey - i have been on m'net for a while and to be completely honest there are some people i feel "closer" to than others!

I know that may sound strange but there are people i have "spoken" to since the first day i came on the site and in a way i feel kinda protective over them.

It might be quite hard for people who go to regular meetups and actually know the people on this site to spend time trying to be overly nice to newbies when their idea was maybe to catch up with friends!

I have never been to one though so this is just my opinion.

spacemonkey · 12/10/2004 11:47

I've never been to one although I have met a few mners but individually. I don't feel very comfortable with big groups so tend to avoid that sort of thing

jane103 · 12/10/2004 11:47

oh fgs

spacemonkey · 12/10/2004 11:48

The "is mumsnet cliquey" issue comes up regularly too

jane103 · 12/10/2004 11:48

yawn

mothernature · 12/10/2004 11:48

jane103 got a problem with someone discussing how they feel?

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:49

don't rise to it mothernature

acer · 12/10/2004 11:50

Why are you yawning jane103?

mothernature · 12/10/2004 11:51

juniperdewdrop - sorry, but it does make me cross sometimes -

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:51

please concentrate on MTC's problem and ignore her

mumtochloe · 12/10/2004 11:51

I can see where you are coming from Springchicken but everyone would have been new at some point or another. I feel worse now - its as if you can't go to one unless you are already known. How do you get known if this is the case, and surely not everyone already has their full quota of friends?

Mrs Dolittle - bless you! Can't say where I live because I may be spotted by the culprits but thanks anyway! Where do you live?

OP posts:
spacemonkey · 12/10/2004 11:51

coddy is yawning because this is an issue that comes up so often on mn

jane103 · 12/10/2004 11:52

the clique thing
If I go to playgroup for example I speak to eht feinds I have made there. That is my right, if that makes it a clique fine - i do not exclude anyone in fact always talk to new poeple but hte clique thing is soooo tedious.

soapbox · 12/10/2004 11:52

Nah - she's just jealous 'cos everyone's posting on this thread rather than her 'yawn' charity one

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:52

you can always CAT her though MTC?

and I should be in the shower now so I'm going

jane103 · 12/10/2004 11:52

Juniper - quit playing hte heavy.

acer · 12/10/2004 11:53

It's quite nice to be able to chat to people that you don't know. don't you think? Maybe I lack confidence but I find msnet really interesting and it takes my mind of things...

MrsDoolittle · 12/10/2004 11:54

Two of us are in Oxford. But to be honest we are all over the country and asyet, haven't decided where to meet up!!

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:54

I'm 1lb lighter this week I'll have you know

JuniperDewdrop · 12/10/2004 11:55
