Sounds about right then Smug.

Monkeybar · 29/08/2007 22:09

Thanks, Pruners, my Jason is the one on the right! (He had longer, curly hair when I knew him, though!)

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:09

I was '87 as well.

CC, that sounds like a Rees-Mogg-ism. I think he's attemting a comeback - that kind of thing won't go down well in the new fluffy Conservative party!

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:10

Michael Gove was a contemporary of DH's.

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:11

When I joined the Oxford Union, Michael Gove was the president - gave us our little new members' pep talk. He was a cocky/confident (delete as applicable) chap even then!

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:13

Oh, bleurgh.

Sorry, I wasn't a fan!

Come on then Unquiet - which college?

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:14

St John's.

Ooh, that was a brainy (or should that be briany?) college...

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:16

Can't say I even noticed, Pruners!
I must have had my mind on other things... maybe I should have used that as a pulling line. "Come to my college gardens and look at the lovely crocuses."

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:18

Briany as in "Starter For Ten"?

Those of us who were at university between 1987 and 1994 - basically two full courses' worth across the country - never had the chance to even apply for "University Challenge", because those were its dead years!

Stephen Twigg (of Michael Portillo fame) was a contemporary of mine -- a couple of years older, I think. He was president of OUSU, iirc.

smugmumofboys · 29/08/2007 22:19

You beat me to the question Dinosaur! Very brainy Unquiet. I was at Trinity.

hatwoman · 29/08/2007 22:20

yes. my years at uni were definitely blighted by not being able to go for university challenge. had to make do with Blind Date in the college bar instead.

It was quite a "worky" college but we did party as well.

I remember us being one of the few to go ahead with a college bop the night the Anarchists threatened chaos across the city. Most of the other colleges bolted and barred their doors!

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:22

I once posted a link on mn to a picture of someone I knew quite well who is an Actor and it turned out that he and his family are quite friendly with Crunchie and family.

Tis a small world, indeed.

Ooh, just remembered, knew Sam West at college as well. He was lovely .

Nightynight · 29/08/2007 22:22

omg so many Oxford people and familiar names. I am also a contemporary of you lot.

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:23

Bink was also a contemporary . But sadly I did not know her then.

snowleopard · 29/08/2007 22:24

ermmmm... HW do you mean the first year of my whole life? Spooky.

I think I might know the other person you know who married someone etc etc....

frogs · 29/08/2007 22:25

Rachel Cusk was a contemporary as well. She was at St Hilda's, though.

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:26

Motherinferior absolutely loathes her.

I've never read anything by her.

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 22:27

Nightynight, are you prepared to divulge any details ?

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:28

She was published very young, wasn't she? 24 or thereabouts? She must have been writing "Saving Agnes" (or something that became it) while at university...
