Quite a few now-famous people overlapped with me at Oxford - Louise Bagshawe, David Cameron, Yvette Cooper - but I can't claim to have "known" any of them really!

ImBarryScott · 29/08/2007 21:16

ooh, UQD, you've reminded me. I was in the same year as Kelly Brook.
Each time I see her age printed in the paper it moves even further south of mine .

paolosgirl · 29/08/2007 21:17

No-one. Absolutely no-one famous at my school or uni.

My dad was at school with Ian Brady though...

Botbot · 29/08/2007 21:22

hotcrossbunny - we must have been in the same year then - was about to say the same person! Different hall for me though, and I didn't know him.

snowleopard · 29/08/2007 21:23

HW, I do still know a few friends from there but those who are female are not (yet) mums (though most of my male college friends have become dads!) So I know I don't know you IYSWIM. If I tell you that I was a bit of an outsider who spent a lot of time at another college - well you'll probably guess who I was but I still won't know who you are!

FWIW I like you on MN!

And also I was never that close to Chris Rokos. Damn I could have been his rich wifey by now. Not!

elkiedee · 29/08/2007 21:28

No one at my school.

The most famous person I was at university with at the same time - Derek Draper - I think two other people posting here were at Manchester around then, and DD was the year above me. I have to say I find his latest career choice - psychotherapist, and now a TV psychotherapist - deeply disturbing. I wish I'd seen some of his recent series though, just because I find the idea so mindboggling.

Another contemporary became briefly famous for having an affair with Julie Burchill and had a column in the Guardian for a while.

pyjamaqueen · 29/08/2007 21:29

No one.

Botbot · 29/08/2007 21:35

My dp went to university with one of the Mighty Boosh (the tall one whose name I can't remember). And he used to work with Marian Keyes.

McEdam · 29/08/2007 21:35

Jon Ronson. No comment!

Piccalilli2 · 29/08/2007 21:41

Natasha Kaplinsky (uni) and Chloe Newsome (was in Coronation Street for a while) at school

hatwoman · 29/08/2007 21:50

hmmm. still not sure. have you got a shiney surname? in which case we were neighbours in our first year. dh was at college too - but we only got together in 92.

Jacob Rees-Mogg and Jason Solomons (film critic on the telly all the time) were a year or two below me at uni.

Monkeybar · 29/08/2007 21:55

Jason Queally (Olympic gold medallist in cycling in 2000). He was in my class at Uni and he knew me a bit. Was most shocked when I happened to see him get that medal!

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 21:56

BoJo (Boris Johnson).

Nick Robinson (horrid Monday Club type, until recently BBC Political Correspondent).

Motherinferior!

snowleopard · 29/08/2007 21:57

No, not shiny. i wouldn't have been with you in first year as I was on a year out and returned to join class of 89 in your second year. (That should give it away!)

(Am curious about your DH as well now!)

Dinosaur · 29/08/2007 21:58

Philip Hensher (novelist).

UnquietDad · 29/08/2007 22:00

Oh, I remember Rees-Mogg - overlapped with him too. I didn't have much to do with the Union (although I did join), but he seemed endlessly desperate to get elected. Technically I am still a member, although I have never been back.

zippitippitoes · 29/08/2007 22:01

does everybody look at this and think i never heard of nearly all of them lol

CissyCharlton · 29/08/2007 22:04

Radio 6 Music DJ Shaun Keveaney.

Smug, isn't Jacob Rees-Mogg the person who said that people who went to comprehensive schools shouldn't become MPs because they aren't capable of writing letters?

smugmumofboys · 29/08/2007 22:04

So when did you matriculate Unquiet Dad? I was 1987.

NotAnOtter · 29/08/2007 22:05

she was at university with me
she loathed me
i loathed her
she coveted my boyfriend from day 1
unlucky vicky!

smugmumofboys · 29/08/2007 22:06

Have no idea cissy. All I remember about him was that he wore stripy pjs (we all saw each other on the way to bathrooms etc) and he was never out of a suit and tie by day. At eighteen.

hatwoman · 29/08/2007 22:08

ok well I know what subject you did. and you spent your first year in my home town. (which iirc is where unquietdad lives now...) I am in touch with someone else who did your subject (different college) who married someone from the same college (are you following...!)

I remember rees mog too. well, the name anyway. different college.
