buonasera!

OP posts:

rosa at nonna not doing the babysitting! I thought all Italian nonnas were more than keen to babysit . Enjoy your meal with dh, are you going for a curry or to one of those posh new restaurants in Cornwall?
I know about Lurpak, but it's not as nice as yeo valley organic butter or sainsbury organic range... no butter can beat English butter! (although once, in Italy, I bought a demi-sal from normandie which was quite nice)
Brangelina, we are driving to Italy this summer, but we'll go to Tuscany first, won't get to Milano before the end of August, not sure the potatoes will survive. Shall I post them? (before you think I'm mad, my mum has posted me the strangest things from Italy...) or I can bring them in october, during half term.

Rosa · 17/07/2007 15:16

Nonna will not feed dd alone we have to stay in the room. When out she will keep dd in buggy but not let her eat a biscuit or bread if we are not there. It is frustrating at times but I guess she is scared something will happen. I want a curry tonight but dh wants chinese. Fancy restaurants not this time. We went to Jamie Olivers 15 in January ( nonno was paying)it was good but we are more good pub food people to be honest and no the smoking ban has started we might go to a pub.( as I still have 1 pair of jeans)
Have not tried Yeo valley butter but I love the yoghurts got them for dd and licking the spoon afterwards is yummy !

francagoestohollywood · 17/07/2007 15:26

go out now and buy a panetto di yeo valley burro .
My mouth waters everytime I read a review of good pubs around Britain. Sadly I haven't found a completely satisfactory one around Exeter... I'd also like to eat the perfect fish and chips...

Brangelina · 17/07/2007 15:27

Lol at posting potatoes. October will be fine, grazie!

Rosa - suocera doesn't do babysitting here either, keeps offering then witters on about not being able to cope.

got to dash now, got to get bus and shoes are broken.

Ciao

Rosa · 17/07/2007 15:32

apparently rick steins fish and chips are one of the best. I like the fish but hate soggy chips so tend to just get the fish and eat a couple of dh's chips. DD had her first non Italiano gelato yesterday one of those Mr whippy kind of soft ones ( we went to a fiera and dh had one)She loved it ! ( again give me Italian ones any day !) Right off to get butter when dd wakes up ...I am trying to loose weight to plan for dc No2 next year have about 10k to loose ( can't cope with 9 mths of doc frowning at my weight)

francagoestohollywood · 18/07/2007 13:40

change doctor !
how was your meal?

Rosa · 18/07/2007 13:53

Am planning to but they are all pretty much the same and for Euro 80 a visit I might change as the one I had was ok but not over friendly !!
Meal was ok but it was just nice to be out . Teh pub had changed hands so it was not as good as itused to be so next week we are going to hunt out another
Nice day today been to the beach and going back later after dd nap.

francagoestohollywood · 18/07/2007 13:59

[envy} at you at the beach. I'm stuck at home with ds, who has a stomach bug, feels very miserable and is now watching telly.
I have a great obstetrician, but she's in Milan... 80 euros, blimey, is it without scan? I once went to see a private gynae in London and paid 150 pounds. In 2000! .

Rosa · 18/07/2007 14:02

80 is with a scan but its 90 if you want a fattura ! My villiosentisis cost 800 Euro it would have been free in the hosp but I wanted to be sure an experienced doc did it.
Poor ds there are nasty bugs round at the mo dd has a nasty cough and doc says its infected she has given antibiotics but said keep her out in the sea air will do her good !!

francagoestohollywood · 18/07/2007 14:07

can't believe it's 90 with fattura. Only in Italy! My obtetrician worked in a Milanese hospital, so I had three scans, smear test, blood tests all covered by asl. But didn't do any esame apart from scans with ds. I had dd here and had translucenza nucale.
Your poor dd! Yes she needs aria di mare!

Brangelina · 18/07/2007 20:23

I also had everything done free on the asl, even my villocentesi. I prefer an experienced public hospital to a private clinic any day. I had mine done at the Mangiagalli where apparently the miscarriage rate was a fraction of a percent, whereas someone in my antenatal class paid something ridiculous at a private clinic at Pavia and nearly lost her baby.

I must say the antenatal care, like the maternity leave, is excellent in Italy. Or at least it was in Milan.

Brangelina · 18/07/2007 20:30

But Rosa, if you get a fattura you can scaricare il 19% quando fai la 730, so it ends up costing less in the long run.

Franca - more horrible things happen in the sanità pubblica, when my aunt had cancer she was told that if she gave a regalo to the doctor poteva saltare la coda per il trattamento. This was a few years ago, but it hasn't changed much, there are stories like that in the paper every month.

francagoestohollywood · 18/07/2007 20:47

Oh yes, I know. It is amazing how these "ethics" don't get changed, and actually get worse and worse.
I had ds at Mangiagalli. The ante-natal care, as I said, was excellent (la mia ginecologa e' meravigliosa), and I felt very safe when delivering. Not sure whehter some attitudes from some nurses/doctors would be tolerated here.

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 08:28

franca what's going on?\are you moving back?

pippi goes to read the back log!!!

I'm back on the net now...

morning everyone!

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 08:34

globetrotter dove sei??? come here!!! I am the pure perugina! let's talk places and people we both know... hu hu that's going to be fun!!!

francagoestohollywood · 19/07/2007 10:32

Pippi, welcome back. we want pictures of the new house now .
Well, basically, we are considering to move after christmas. I'm full of concerns, dh is not and is more determined. We have decided to think it through over the summer holidays. I'd very much love to go back to Milan, but there are lots of practical problems (house prices being the first) which are making me indecisa.
btw, we are off on Tuesday for the summer

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 11:11

when are you off to tuscany franca? I bet you cannot wait considering the crappy summer we are having. if it wasn't for our trip to calabria I would have shot myself by now - not one bloody sunny day since we got back. and 39 degrees in PG the day my brother finally graduated.

are house prices in Milan worse then here?

I think you'll be happy there, although you'll miss england a lot for a while. but you always wanted to go and have friends there etc.

picture of the house I'll send once we have done it up... at the moment the inside is appalling... but the location is perfect and having the park with woodlands just across the road is fnatastic. It feels as if it's ours TBH.

anyway, are you still coming to london? you should especially if you're lleaving.

Ah I did miss MN especially when DD developed Impetigo... if I could look it up here I'd save myself trips to doctors out of hours etc - even DH has become a fan especially when I gave him loads of contact of firm for loft conversion.

mediterRONeo · 19/07/2007 11:40

lol at dh developing an addiction for mumsnet. it is truly a website full of wonderful things.
i spent the am in our allottment planting and weeding, meraviglioso. E' una bella giornata oggi, anche se mo' si sta annuvolando un po'. I would have jumped out of the window if it hadn't been for our trip to Italy. This is the worse summer I have experienced.
ds is recovering from a new stomach bug, school ends tomorrow and need to find things to do with him.

francagoestohollywood · 19/07/2007 11:45

I'm an impetigo expert, btw
House prices in Milan are not as bad as London, obviously, but they are incredibly cari (I read somewhere that milano e' l'undicesima citta' piu' cara del mondo . more expensive than Paris, apparently ). Not sure if we can afford to buy a house in the areas we like with the money from selling this house (which I absolutely adore and can't think of leaving, really)
We have this month to think things through, discuss with family and friends etc.
Yes, I def want to come to London and meet you girls, I'm really affezionata!
We are leaving on tuesday, stay in brittany for a few days, drive through france. we'll be in tuscany from the 5th to the 19th, then we'll stay at dh's parents. then drive back. with a scorta of vino, olio, pasta, passata, tonno in scatola, parmigiano e sale grosso ! is there anything you fancy?

francagoestohollywood · 19/07/2007 11:46

med, ds's just had the stomach bug!

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 12:18

Ciao Med, yes it took me absolutely ages to get a bit of tan (compared to mt english DH who becomes charcoal and so does mini DD) and it's all gone again now. [sulk emoticon]

LOL at sale grosso! My dad always brings me a few packs.

one thing you'll miss I guess is having a house, rather than a flat, and the garden.

DD has got a cold now and a bit of temp... but she's watching barbapapa' and dancing so can't be that bad.

did I say mt brother has just arrived in exeter a couple of day ago.

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 12:20

nice to drive down there as well. DH requests the biggest Fiorentina you can find please... and so do I actually.

globetrotterinvietnam · 19/07/2007 13:22

Eccomi!

Ciao Pippi, allora dimmi, dove abitavi a Perugia? Sei andata per Umbria Jazz per caso? Anche qui fa caldissimo.... What did your brother study? Sono curiosa lo so!

PippiLangstrump · 19/07/2007 13:26

Rosa · 19/07/2007 14:08

I will probably go to the mainland for dc2 ( if it happens ) as the public hospital is not the best and after hearing friends villio was treated loads better than I was.I had a friend who went to Milan to have her amnio as she wanted the best . But I cannot complain about the birth as I had a fantastic midwife ..the doc arrived too late they were calling her but dd decided to come faster. For my morfologicia I went to the same doc who does the hospital and as he was a friend of my doc it was free ...!!!
I was on Uk pay so not able to scaricare but not dh is his own company everything will be from now on.
Hope all the dcs with tummy bugs feeling better.
