Second lesson today. Strangely, I feel more nervous today than I did last week.

Snowhite · 18/10/2007 09:51

Not been on this thread for ages, congratulations to all of you who have passed theroy/practical and good luck to all those who have tests coming up. Not sure I can still come on this thread as I am no longer terrified in fact I am more excited than anything else got my test in 2 weeks and am not terrified at all infact the complete oposite. No one was more scared about driving than me so just wanted to say that you will all over come your nerves sooner or later just keep thinking positive.

Hello everyone, just noticed this thread. I had my first driving test yesterday and failed . I didn't see someone waiting at a zebra crossing, how frustrating! Got 10 minors and my manouvers were perfect!

scoopmuckanddizzy · 18/10/2007 14:50

Just read the thread title and realised it's for the terrified, I'm not terrified, just a bit nervous! Ah, this is why I failed my test, not looking properly!!!

PirateoftheScarybeing · 26/10/2007 14:17

WOW Mrs Slow, i am excited for you!!!

CountessCadburyOfBournville · 26/10/2007 14:21

how did i not know about this thread? its title sums me up perfectly. i started learning last june, have had a few long gaps to have a baby and over the holidays but it has only recently started falling into place.
i took my theory this morning and passed (although my i picked the week when my dh was away and i had all 3 kids off school and throwing up too, i don't know). Still i'm pleased that bit is over. if only i could master the manoevres, i'd be sorted. oh well, you can't rush these things!

PirateoftheScarybeing · 26/10/2007 14:27

sounds to me like you have done a bloody good job so far.

Sticking to it is difficult enough when you are not having a break to have a baby! I think tis thread started near the beginning of the year. I started learning then, and found it on here! I am now driving and its great.

CatIsSpooky · 26/10/2007 14:43

MrsS have you had your test yet??

am making slow progress at driving on my own since I passed...getting there though!
drove to a friend's house today...it was OK apart from not being in gear and roll backwards when I tried to pull off at some traffic lights I was soooo lucky there was no-one behind me! then when I got home i parked really badly...had to go out and re-park twice before I got it right LOLOLOL

totallyfreaky · 26/10/2007 15:14

catissleepy

I passed at the beginning of October, and felt exactly the same, in fact I felt really low, I just did'nt want to get in the car, but I forced myself, and slowly started to feel better, and now I make up any exuse to get in the car and drive, I love it. Make yourself do it, just drive on roads you feel comfortable with first, even if thats going around the same block over and over

CatIsSpooky · 26/10/2007 15:27

totallyfreaky
I feel like a total wimp! it's getting a bit better though....you're right, have to keep doing it

saffy202 · 26/10/2007 15:38

I passed in July and I'm struggling. I can't park - ended up coming back home one day as I couldn't find a space and the next time I scratched my car and had to ring dh to come from work to get my car out.

CatIsSpooky · 26/10/2007 15:42

aw saffy
I blimmin hate parking
have not had to parallel park yet...

PirateoftheScarybeing · 26/10/2007 16:23

I passed in July. I avoid parallel parking at al costs. I frequently stall, I put my car into 3rd to pull away atleast 4 times a week. Poor car, it tries it's best!!

Mine is a much olderone than I learnt in and takes alot more 'driving' as it has a smaller engine and isn't as nippy.

but i love her!

Snowhite · 30/10/2007 20:19

Hahahaha was it me that posted 2 weeks ago because now I am terrified! Got my test on Thursday and I am so scared how do I get rid of these nerves ? I suppose it does not help that I am due on this week so very hormonal as well, do you think they would take this in to consideration .

MrsSlowLearner · 13/11/2007 14:00

I passed a mock test this morning

Did have an awful lesson last week though which resulted in me having a full on panic attack

Fingers crossed that i will remain calmish on the day.

I don't know when my test is but i'm pretty sure it is this month or beginning of Dec.It is on a Tuesday that is all i know but i would rather not know and save myself some worry.

I really have to pass now as i am facing redundancy early next year

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
LoveAngelGabriel · 13/11/2007 15:42

Well, been having lessons since September. Never thought I'd get past the 'gritted teeth, utterly petrified' stage, but I am feeling a lot more relaxed about it now. Got my theory test next week (cacking myself about that, I have to admit!). My instructor said to me this morning that my driving is 'test pass standard', but I need to practice my manouevres. I am just so shit at anything that involves reversing grrrrrrr

MrsSlowLearner · 13/11/2007 20:51

Sounds like you are doing great LoveAngel.

Good luck with the Theory test.
I found the hazard perception part the hardest as i was staring so hard at the screen i clicked too much and got penalized for it

maggiems · 15/11/2007 15:29

I passed a mock test yesterday too Mrs slowlearner. I got 7 minors which i was pleased about. However I will be completely devastated if i fail the real thing on 30th November. Good luck love angel and you too mrssll if your test happens to be next Tuesday

MarsLady · 15/11/2007 15:38

I've begun to read the book.......... does that count?

MrsSlowLearner · 22/11/2007 23:34

Meant to ask you all about the show me tell me questions, did you bother to memorize them or not?
I haven't even looked at them yet and i get this horrible feeling that i have a test next week(maybe i'm wrong?)

Feckity feck feck feck

Conversation with instructor after lesson this morning

Him-"So have you had any thoughts about your test?"

Me-"Trying not to which is why i didn't want to know although i realise it must be in the near future,i can figure that out.Just as long as you don't have it booked for the week beginning the 3rd Dec as i told you and wrote down i have no childcare that week

Him-"Oh shit"

Me-"Shit"

maggiems · 26/11/2007 11:18

Thats a right pain MRS Sl. Can he get it changed?

I have my test on Friday and am about to start memorising the "show me" questions. I had a look at them prior to my mock exam but he didnt do them with me. They are all ok except for one on tread depth which I dont understand at all . I was meant to have 3 lessons this week but had to cancel one today becuase my boss had organised an important meeting and I have to go. Hope to squeeze another one in at some stage this week. Am in a major panic at the thought of it. I SO dont want to fail.I wished I hadnt passed my mock as it has made me feel that I am capable of passing and will be so cross with myself if I dont do it.

yogagirl · 27/11/2007 16:50

Ooh can I join you on this thread? Am 31 weeks pg and have been frantically learning to drive since July. It's not going too badly - despite still making the odd few blunders ie almost running over a pedestrian on a mock test . Anyway, I was hoping to take a test before baby arrives in Jan but this is looking increasingly unlikely. I just wondered if any of you broke off lessons to have a baby - how soon after did you restart them and how much did you remember? I've spent so much on lessons already - don't want it to have been a waste of time and feel like a complete beginner again...

MrsSlowLearner · 28/11/2007 15:32

maggiems-Have managed to get some childcare ,dp has had to have the day off work.It is very inconvenient and i really didn't want to know when it was but tbh i just want to get it out the way.I feel it is like living with a noose around my neck.

To make matters worse i had another mock test yesterday and failed it terribly.I couldn't reverse or parallel park
How can i pass one and fail the next one so badly?

So test day is looming on tuesday

Goodluck Maggiems for fridayi shall be thinking of you.

Yogagirl-Welcome to the thread
