I saw a woman in the Science Museum today, who really could only be described as having "let herself go"

Grey streaky "hanging" hair, huge arse and fat tum in grey tracky bottoms, footglove shoes, shapeless burgundy tunic top and hanging tits. She really looked like she had given up on life. In contrast, she had three dear little, divinely trendily dressed girls with her. She had obviously put a lot of thought and effort into what they were going to wear (down to the very funky hat one of them was wearing) but hadn't even spent five minutes on herself.

Why?

To me the OP didnt come across as bitchy more as curiosity regarding the paradox of an unkempt mother with trendy well groomed children.

Most of us are not as glamourous as pre-children, quite frankly we dont have the time.

My check list in the morning is make up on...children fed....all in clean clothes...fingers through my hair (as I go out the door)...book bags/lunch bags...PE bags

At the school gates I realise they have weetabix around their mouths and their hair is sticking up like a cockatiel's plume

Would I be bothered if I came on here and found someone posting to that effect...no....I would just laugh and say "yep im disorganised"

The more interesting issue leaving aside that of why some women are as dull as ditchwater and only interested in buggies, brands of soap powder and pretty dresses, God help us.... is the looks point. Why some people feel compelled to dress in a certain way that is regarded as the norm in England and others don't choose to.

Ponce · 18/04/2007 11:32

i think oyu protest too much

contentiouscat · 18/04/2007 11:35

Xenia "some women are as dull as ditchwater and only interested in buggies, brands of soap powder and pretty dresses"

Then again some are only interested in their careers and proving how much cleverer and important they are than other women.

Of course the most interesting women are those who fall somewhere in between.

Well, to be honest, I am most offended on this thread by the assumption that footgloves = 'letting yourself go" . I have several pairs and personally they are great for letting you get on with life - none of this pathetic teetering around on heels or wedges... instead I'm able to walk miles without blisters/ run after toddler/ break into a game of footie in the park...

I am genuinely interested in what your perfect buggy is. What is it?

expatinscotland · 18/04/2007 11:49

Men like how I look. They couldn't care less about the pension crisis after they're done, either. There's no ride like this at Disneyland, baby!
