I saw a woman in the Science Museum today, who really could only be described as having "let herself go"

Grey streaky "hanging" hair, huge arse and fat tum in grey tracky bottoms, footglove shoes, shapeless burgundy tunic top and hanging tits. She really looked like she had given up on life. In contrast, she had three dear little, divinely trendily dressed girls with her. She had obviously put a lot of thought and effort into what they were going to wear (down to the very funky hat one of them was wearing) but hadn't even spent five minutes on herself.

Why?

Oh and yes we all judge

but its quite possible to try not to, and be aware that its not really on. Bit odd to flaunt it.

Ilovemyboy · 16/04/2007 22:09

Aye, it happens to the best of us.

I am the Ugly Betty of South London at the moment.

Dinosaur · 16/04/2007 22:09

If they all looked happy, the rest is just details, isn't it?

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/04/2007 22:10

It doesn't bother me in the least. I am just curious as to why someone would clearly spend so much time on their children and not even bother to put a bra on.

[Dino, I'm PMSL at the idea that this could a have been you ...]

NotQuiteCockney · 16/04/2007 22:10

Maybe she doesn't like wearing a bra?

It's not only her that you're judging though.

You're judging every other mother who hasn't got the time or energy to tart herself up, who doesn't have the time for a haircut, who can't find trendy clothes to fit her and so indulges her love of fashion through her children. Hey, that's me. So much for beauty only being skin-deep, hey.

booge · 16/04/2007 22:11

Glad you haven't spotted me going about my business most days I haven't just let my self go, I've gone through a hedge backwards.

misdee · 16/04/2007 22:11

it was me

paulaplumpbottom · 16/04/2007 22:11

As long as they all looked happy I suppose its no big deal. You never know what someone elses situation is like.

PrincessPeaHead · 16/04/2007 22:12

I BET I know who she is.
Were the little girls umm about 7, 5 and 3? If so and she is who I think she is she also has a baby boy of 1 and a bit... I'll tell you on Wed if it is her but you have described her and her girls to a T! That is one of about 3 outfits she has.

I ahven't had a haircut since October (which matters when you've got short hair)

And I can't remembr if I wasjhed it yet this week

But you now what? I don't know why i am telling you. Coz its none of your business.

chocolateface · 16/04/2007 22:13

People who look like that usually give their children really bad haircuts. Had she cut the childre's hair herself?

SherlockLGJ · 16/04/2007 22:13

Yes I would have looked at her and thought Oh Dear God, ( I am no fashionista myself, Cod would hate me )

But I am intelligent enough to have taken stock of the whole situation.

Mother looks like a pile of poo.

Children look wonderful.

Children are the the Science Museum.

Result of deliberation.............

One mother who loves her children

Loves them enough to make sure they are beautifully turned out.

Loves them enough to ensure they are stimulated. (Science Museum)

Runs out of energy and self esteem when she gets to herself.

Give her a break, Women judging Women is there anything worse.

Dinosaur · 16/04/2007 22:13

And is she a happy person, PPH?

Greenleeves · 16/04/2007 22:13

ROFL misdee

I bet you're no Tinkerbell yourself Mrs Schadenfreude. When women are scathingly judgemental about others' appearances, there's usually a sliver of personal dissatisfaction in there somewhere

Rhubarb · 16/04/2007 22:13

I was just about to post what wigwambam has posted.

How does it make you feel to judge someone as having "let herself go"? What could you possibly get out of sharing an observation like that?

OK, I apologise for offending so many people. It wasn't my intention. I was just genuinely curious as to why someone would clearly spend so much time on her three children and not even five minutes on herself.

Horrible thread.

misdee · 16/04/2007 22:14

some days, i get outy of bed, make sure the kids are fed and dressed, barely get time to get myself dressed (i swear i will drive them to school in my pj's) and barely look in the mirror.
