In light of the tragic events that happened here this week I feel so helpless and so I thought if I could just bring the subject up and get you all to check then at least I feel I would have done something!

We use the fire angels which are connected to the light fittings so permanantly charged

What happened?

CadburyCremeSquonk · 23/03/2007 18:52

How is everyone over there mcdreamy? I've been thinking of you

McCadburysDreamyegg · 23/03/2007 18:52

A house burnt down on camp and a mother lost her 2 children and husband - awful Hillary, has been a terribly sad week as we live in a very small community and so everyone has been affected.

OP posts:
Hillary · 23/03/2007 18:53

good god I'm so sorry

McCadburysDreamyegg · 23/03/2007 18:53

Things are going back to normalish. The radio is playing the usual shows etc, events are slowly starting again. Unfortunately life goes on but it did stand still for a moment.

I never heard of fire angels - sound like a great idea!

Checked, working.

CadburyCremeSquonk · 23/03/2007 18:55

I checked mine when you first told me what had happened. It works.

McCadburysDreamyegg · 23/03/2007 18:55

I think everybody here checked theirs this week! But I have to say I can't remember the last time I checked it.

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 18:56

oh that's so sad, checked mine

hunkermunker · 23/03/2007 18:57

Oh, no!

I've gone so cold reading that

Poor, poor woman - how utterly tragic.

We have Fire Angels too - brilliant inventions.

snig · 23/03/2007 18:59

thats terrible. what a horrible thing to happen.
mine is working as dp is cooking and has just set it off.
really should remind my dad to check his.

OrlandoTheMarmaladeCat · 23/03/2007 18:59

Our local fire service (lovely men, just lovely ) told us to change the batteries of every fire alarm on our eldest child's birthday.

I never thought it would work ie I'd never remember, but actually I do.

I'm not sure why this particular thread, but my sympathy goes out to anyone involved. It's a cause close to my heart too...

snig · 23/03/2007 19:01

orlando thats a really good idea!

McCadburysDreamyegg · 23/03/2007 19:02

Perhaps it works because I like the remember the firemen once a year too

ShoshableEggEater · 23/03/2007 19:09

We have a gas check every year, the lovely man who does it, put up a Carbon Moo detector, when he found out I was a CM, without asking and checks every fire alarm and extinguisher for me to.

Hillary · 23/03/2007 19:17

Its important to have a photoelectric alarm too (detects the slow burning fires better than the normal alarms) for electrical fires, tv, fridge etc. I also have individual cut off devices on all my plugs which are permanantly on ie. fridge, just in case.

chipkid · 23/03/2007 19:19

I have mains alarms as I was so bad at checking the batteries. I am so sorry to hear of this hillary

McCadburysDreamyegg · 23/03/2007 19:28

I'm just going to keep on bumping this until enough of you have told me you've checked

OP posts:
EllieK · 23/03/2007 19:30

mains alarms here too but should definitely be 'bumped' lots to remind everyone

DonnyLass · 23/03/2007 19:31

iris66 · 23/03/2007 19:31
