What decorative objects annoy you? Let's have a MN rant thread (for a change)

This week I am mostly hating decorative picture frames for tiny photos. Especially ones with teddybears on but that's not the point. Whether they're 6" across or marginally bigger than the photo itself, wallet-sized photos belong in wallets.

we hardly have any decorative objects.....hmm.......none that come to mind. Just in the kids rooms, but they don't count do they?!

crispyduck · 18/03/2007 16:43

Them big horrible butterflies attached to peoples houses....tak takky...

noddyholder · 18/03/2007 16:43

Those sticks that people put in vases

sassy · 18/03/2007 16:44

Fake flowers.

pointydog · 18/03/2007 16:44

doulton figurines

Lauriefairycake · 18/03/2007 16:45

I hate hate hate ornaments - floofy shepherdess porcelain cak.

Also people keep buying me vases - so I now have about 15 in the kitchen cupboard.

I'm very fond of cheap glittery Monsoon/MandS/TKmax photo frames which cheer me up on my dressing table.

My mother in law has about 10 Daily Mail/plates of 'sigificance' collections of various utterly hideous stuff - thimbles, plates, horses (?), and now 200 of those Lilliput Lane houses (they are quite pretty actually but its just sooooo much stuff in one room)

Dried flowers that go dusty (I have some) - ashamed emoticon.

noddyholder · 18/03/2007 16:45

those canvases masquerading as art that you can buy in colours to match your decor in places like asda and argos!

Bucketsofdynomite · 18/03/2007 16:45

Oh I've got big purple garlands of fake flowers in my hall, I'm going for a camp/kitsch effect.

Cushions with sequins on. You can't put your head on them because they're all scratchy, so why have them at all?

willywonka · 18/03/2007 16:47

Those tiny ceramic shoe ornaments that Argos used to sell. Best of all was the display stand in the shape of an enormous f*ing shoe. Just why?

sassy · 18/03/2007 16:48

Oooh, and ornamental ceramic thimbles in special cabinets. Why????

crispyduck · 18/03/2007 16:49

oh yeh and any dust collecting shite..mini clocks, bottles, plates(esp the ones that people buy from them awful mags)

willywonka · 18/03/2007 16:50

Oh, and most of what is given away with those "part" magazines that are always advertised just after Christmas, especially the one with the GORGEOUS selection of miniature clocks

willywonka · 18/03/2007 16:51

Sorry - x-posted with crispyduck

nickytwotimes · 18/03/2007 16:51

SenoraPostrophe · 18/03/2007 16:52

You lot are making me want to go out and buy some house butterflies, some fake flowers, some sticks and some teeny weeny picture frames.

But I will draw the line at porcelain ornaments

Glad to see that you have to draw the line somewhere SP!!

fryalot · 18/03/2007 16:59

not sure you could class them as decorative, but - anything you get from a holiday. Ashtrays with "bournemouth" on them or coasters with "torremolinos" plastered all over them.

northerner · 18/03/2007 16:59

Those freaky ornament 'life like' baby dolls you see in the sunday supplements. They cost a fortune - who the heck buys them?

My MIL has 34 "farmyard and country scene" plates. All of which are on her dining room wall! She has specified in her will that I'm to get them.
I can't wait

willywonka · 18/03/2007 17:03
