Fucking mothers' day!

Does anyone else get pissed off at mothers' day? Or is it only shite if you're married to my husband?

I hate it, really. I hate that I either order flowers for my mother in law, or nag the husband into so doing. I hate the way the kids feel like doing something but my dear beloved can't get his arse in gear to help them to make some cards or whatever. I hate the whole patronising mess of it, the way it happens at a crap time of year, when the weather is foul, and it's the middle of lent. I wish it was either in Summer, or over!

Mm. Enough about me. What do you think?

Sorry Gobshite, but not just you - it is my first mothers day. I know I am being hormonal or something but frankly expected DH to be nice, help me and take me to lunch or something ... NO! I am afraid I have married a man with no backbone and he will be off seeing his rather controlling mother.
apparently one does not QUALIFY for motherhood until said sproglet is able to make a card for themselves with no help from anyone else - apparently that is when they are 4!QUALIFY!QUALIFY! HMMM! rather angry as frankly after carrying said item for the last 9 months then going through 28hrs of labour and being presented with rather lovely dd I have got her and I to 7 months old now - I am back at work full time - 60 hr weeks and dh still will not change a nappy or do a morning feed or bath time or pick her up from childminders or anything. this is surely a day for a cup of tea in bed! Nope - I don't qualify! hmmmmm where do I go for the "I have just knifed my DH" thread??????

gobshite · 15/03/2007 14:15

Molly, your DH needs to wake up and smell the hormones. And yes, you deserve a cup of tea in bed in the morning, at least. And i hope he develops a spine and comes through for you

They tried to get my ds (who in his defence is not in to painting/glueing etc) to make me a Mother's day card at playgroup today - apparently he ran away laughing.

Ho hum.... I'm all for the 'it's what happens through the year ' attitude, except when was the last time any of you had a cup of tea/coffee in bed ?

Just had my mum's mother's day today, she and my father were looking after our dds whilst dh and I were in Tuscany on a freebee 2 night stay.... ... I take back my cup of tea comment....

Showered her with lots of great girlie things I know she likes, dd1 was off school and helped her open everything, nothing like teaching by example in my book!

Men are notoriously cr*p at all this, keep them out of the equation and forget father's day he cannot be bothered!

Loads of love to all us mothers.. GROUP HUG xxx

MassiveBoobs · 15/03/2007 17:58

One day a friend of mine was going on a trip with his father, his brother and his mother (the boys were about 18 and 20). His mother got them lost and when his father complained she burst into tears and said 'It's my birthday and mother's day and you've all forgotten both.'

Men

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:12

Edjit! Welcome!!!

Told you.

Not all my fault, surely Soapbox can take some of the blame?

friendlyedjit · 15/03/2007 18:25

of course you both can..you've been subliminally coaching me at wellmeadow! So you're not doing the Lion King then?
We'll have to think of something else superb for you to do! Did you indulge your shoe fetish?

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:26

Going to cornwall!

friendlyedjit · 15/03/2007 18:26

good gal yerself, are you up there for the week?

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:30

Yes. Dad in hospital for two nights next week so I'm going to support mum with that and it will be great to see MY mum on mother's day! I cannot remember the last time that happened!

When I found out I had not been invited to the Lion King extravaganza I thought sod the lot of ya! I'll have my breakfast in bed and then piss of for the rest of the week.

It will do them good to be without me for a bit!

MIL thought I would like a bit of time on my own on mother's day!! What??

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:32

What am I talking about?!! It will be the first time they have done without me EVER!!!!!!

oxocube · 15/03/2007 18:32

haven't read much of this but I love my mum to bits and have sent her a card telling her exactly that! As for me, well we don't live in UK so my other half always uses that as an excuse to not celebrate the day, but when the Dutch Mothers' Day arrives (in mid June I think) he ignores that one too because we're not Dutch

Plus I had to buy the card for his Mum, nag him to sign it, then put a stamp on it and post it myself otherwise it would never get there. And who would she blame? Me of course

friendlyedjit · 15/03/2007 18:33

think the plan is here that I'm cooking for MIL and SIL and nephew! Well NOT. I'm off to the gymn and pool for the afternoon!!! and may not even do any shopping for the event either LOL teehee...

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:37

YOU are cooking??!!!

But it's MOTHER'S day.

That means mothers do SOD ALL except bask in the adoration of their offspring and relish the successes of their nurturing...

friendlyedjit · 15/03/2007 18:39

That may be their plan......not mine!! I'm off out for the afternoon!! No DH will be barefoot and attached to cooker with child on hip

spudmasher · 15/03/2007 18:45

How about a nice joint of lamb in the slow cooker. Something nice and easy.

friendlyedjit · 15/03/2007 18:47

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I feel like a heel digging moment coming on. I am not cooking. it could become a mantra.
