MadamedeChevreuse · 04/01/2016 16:33

Oh shit, forgot to take the chickens for their walk...

MadamedeChevreuse · 04/01/2016 17:22

Garghhh just found ds's holiday homework. I thought he didnt have any. It's to read as many books as possible, write summaries and draw pix. Ffs. This is going to take aaaages. He's not exactly a speed reader...

FancyFancy · 04/01/2016 17:32

Open-ended homework like that really pisses me off - guaranteed to make 99% of parents feel inadequate as they'll feel their kid hasn't done enough. Given the inevitability of feeling like a crap parent no matter how much he would have done, cut out the bollocks & do the minimum - you'll only feel very slightly worse than if you do a lot & it will save you (& ds) oodles of time. And your sanity.

Badders123 · 04/01/2016 17:36

Ds2 hates his school Xmas holiday reading book so much I've ordered him some Star Wars reading books!

AnneEtAramis · 04/01/2016 18:25

madame let him pick one and do a really good review.

badders we read school books maybe once/twice and then just pick from our shelves. DS3 (4 nearly 5) obviously has to read his but even him I just stop at appropriate words in bedtime story and let him sound out etc. Life is too short to read shit.

MadamedeChevreuse · 04/01/2016 18:55

Getting ds to read is like pulling teeth. He loves being read to, but doing it himself...

I just speed-read a couple with him and helped him write the summaries. Fuck it, life is too short.

Badders123 · 04/01/2016 19:22

Dh is trying to shower ds2
All I can hear is ds muttering "you're not the boss of me!"
done know where he gets it from

FancyFancy · 04/01/2016 19:36

Life is too short to read shit. - Grin well put anne

Am not really here, I am doing a grocery order

IssyStark · 04/01/2016 20:01

Evening all! Survived the first day back at work but now feel knackered (although garklet2 waking thrice during the night prob hasn't helped).

We're still clinging onto Christmas by having the lights and cards up but tree is down and outside as Council officially started collecting them today.

Watched W&P last night, from the bits of TB I saw it seems he's doing his gravelly Cyrano de Bergerac voice. Not one of my favourites but I'll survive, besides there's James Norton, Aneurin Barnard and Paul Dano to keep me occupied.

Good luck with the house selling madame!

Comtess · 04/01/2016 20:18

Evening beautiful wenches

So fucked off with pissy weather. Cold and dry is fine for January.

As am home at reasonable hour I have cooked, cleared up and now planning to watch that German thing from last night.

Madame totally agree with Fancy on the homework - it's a ticking the box exercise. Snore.

LOVELY to see MrsB

RingOutSolsticeHelsBells · 04/01/2016 20:56

LetUs!!!!!!!!!!!

We went out for a meal. I had lemonade served in a Jam Jar, (with a handle) and food served on a breadboard - look!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LetUsPrey · 04/01/2016 21:15

Evening wenches. Cards and stuff coming down tomorrow. I'm too knackered today. DS2 has finished his homework tonight. It involved, in DH's words, a lot of DS2 pissing about and trying to avoid it. No change there then.

Helen - that picture and the description! What in the name of fuck is wrong with an actual sodding glass and an actual fucking plate!!!!! Aaarrrgggghhhhh!!!

ElkCameUponHerMusketeer · 04/01/2016 21:25

Evening wenches. Madame when we moved, I shoved most of the clutter into boxes and the estate agent shuftied them round to keep them out of the photos. When it came to viewings we had a day of intense cleaning, then the poor kids weren't allowed to get any toys out for about 3 days. Fortunately we only had three lots to show round and let the place to the 2nd people to look but I appreciate its probably a more protracted process if you're selling.

Did some wench mention a while ago about abdominal migraines??....Badders??? We've all been struck down with some sort of D&V type virus thing, all recovered now, but MlleElk is having ongoing tummy ache, diffusely around her belly button that seems to wax and wane in severity and has been nauseous but not sick. She managed to go to school today, but she's had it for about a week now. Does this sound like a migraine?

Badders123 · 04/01/2016 21:31

Could be, Elk.
It is worse at night?
Does she get very hot and tired prior to an attack?

FancyFancy · 04/01/2016 21:36

Some people can get temporary lactose intolerance after D&V I've read elk - no experience of it myself mind, so no advice

ElkCameUponHerMusketeer · 04/01/2016 21:47

It does seem to be worse at night, and she's always tired - but that's a fortnight of late nights for you - although I haven't noticed her getting hot. Interesting about the lactose though, I hadn't thought of that. I'll try keeping her off the milk and see what that does.

Thanks Wenchies

Comtess · 04/01/2016 22:07

You wenches are GOOD, yes absolutely about lactose intolerance think this is more than likely Elk.

Deutschland 83 v good watch. All wearing eighties horror show DDR wear so hard to look good in that (though I did have a bit of a pash for Daniel Bruhl in 'goodbye lenin'). I enjoyed it but I do love a bit of spying stuff. And I don't mind subtitles. Think I'm going to try and get home in time to watch Endeavour tomorrow #newyear, new leaf

FancyFancy · 04/01/2016 22:22

Sounds promising comtess, will have to set aside time to watch it properly & not while I'm doing the ironing - not a good idea for a subtitled programme!

The lactose thing is interesting, after stomach bugs my mum was always slow reintroducing dairy - always wondered if it was an old wives tales but it seems not!

MiladyBeaWinter · 04/01/2016 22:43

Neither of my two had homework over the holidays. I'm with Anne on it. Do one book and send a note in to say too busy having important family time to do more. It was bloody Christmas!

Helen popping up on thread answers my question about where she is and why we are walking chickens and giving bees umbrellas. Hope you have a lovely time, crap serving dishes notwithstanding.

Hope MlleElk recovers and pleased to hear BabyElk is a farter. Grin If I find Danti in my dream tonight I'll send him round to the Tavern.

MiladyBeaWinter · 04/01/2016 22:44

Obvs I mean Santi. Finding Dante would be a very different dream! Hmm

FancyFancy · 04/01/2016 22:56

That was a very cultural slip mrsB!

Obs2016 · 05/01/2016 04:44

Hope Madame's photographing house is going well.
Agree with Anne's comment about life being too short to read shite/ do stupid homework for children, in Xmas holidays.
Although I know Helen's LetUs platter is a crime, didn't the food look good? yummy.
