had a Tom dream last night. He was the guest at a camp type thing (bit like Brownie camp but with grown ups - we had sleeping bags and dormitories). Wenches were there, and some Batshiteers. He was hiding in a corridor from them and we lay on the carpet and talked for ages. But just talked. Then he turned into two of the girls from War & Peace (the Downton one and her friend) and wenches were drinking prosecco with them. Sparks was looking for Santi but he wasn't there and Tom dissapeared too. All a bit odd really and not what was ordered from my subconscious.

Ok so my house is going on the market this week...operation de clutter and clean windows completed yesterday. Operation put away all ds's xmas toys commences today.

Photographer coming on tues and visits soon after that I imagine. Has anyone sold a house recently and got tips for how to present / dress your house? Im thinking flowers etc may look a bit try-hard...?

I imagine it has to be done on computer no? So prob just do the research, then fill out a table with it in Word or a sheet in Excel?

I just de cluttered majorly (we rented a storage unit)
Also made sure there were fresh flowers (I'm a sucker for those)
I don't agree with the whole "take every personal item down/put away" but I did make sure every room was clean, tidy and did the odd jobs that needs doing...bits of painting, putting shelves up, new blinds etc.
Make he furniture in each room is relevant to that room...I know that sounds obvious but so many people have beds in studies, pianos in conservatories etc...(not very good examples but what I mean)

Eek Madame. I've not moved for almost 15 years but can't imagine it's changed much. Declutter, paint out any strong / individual colours and I'd go for a few nice plants rather than flowers? Good luck, just keep reminding yourself it'll be worth it in the end.

I bloody missed W&P. The DC were up until midnight! I have to decide whether to wait for DH or not but that could mean at least a week.

On the fiction threads an interesting convo about AK suggesting that Levin and Kitty are the real stars of the novel and Anna and Vronsky just a side show. I refrained from pointing them towards my picture collection.

Thanks for the tips all. We've decluttered like buggery and tried not to make the lounge / dining room / study look like a playroom too.

Afternoon wenches. The decs are all down and packed away. Christmas is officially over in my house, so I've name changed back too . Only the tree to be stuffed in the bin (not a euphemism) left to do - DS seems keen to do this as he will get free rein with a hacksaw .

Bets now being taken on when I will discover the decoration I missed and what it will be.

madame - have only sold a house in London, where pretty much anything sells! I'd make sure any small maintenance jobs are done before viewings - no drippy taps, wobbly door hinges etc. , makes the place look well cared for.

Going by some MN threads, don't be afraid to criticise the EA pics & ask for them to be re-done if they're shit. Make sure all pics are well lit, esp if it's a dull day.

Interesting anne, I'm not sure I'd say 'stars', but think Tolstoy's interests were with Kitty & Levin (not surprising, isn't Levin supposed to be him?). Which is possibly why I find them less interesting & more irritating than Anna & Vronsky!
