heard two crackers while out in Zimbabwe.

firstly we arrived at our Lodge in Vic Falls and were greated by

"Fatnass" (that's the spelling DH says they probably used - but pronounced Fatness)

and on the list of contact at the Hwange safari Lodge was a

"Whatmore"

Our class list is very varied. Some very down to earth names but there's a fair sprinkling of double-barreled names with a von in the middle, i.e. Tassilo F..... von G...... or Felicitas S.......... von E............

Isn't this just a bit too much?! Obviously one of them is a "von" and couldn't face giving it up on marriage so they made it a X v X surname (well, ok why not?) but combined with the first names

Then the double-barreled first names that don't sound right together like Gabor-Ruben. My favourite is Cosma-Marta HH... v H....

ruty · 05/09/2006 14:57

Medusa? You are kidding right? What kind of parent would bestow that name on their child?

intergalacticwalrus · 05/09/2006 14:59

I know of an Io Velvet.

Strange.

What's wrong with names like Alan and Beryl?

suzywong · 05/09/2006 15:01

I know of an Io, but not velvet. It means "joy" I think

Io Silver, that would be a CORKER!

ruty · 05/09/2006 15:08

Love Zim names Many a happy hour spent reading the Herald laughing at the names. "Learnmore" "Lovemore" and "Innocent" (usually just convicted of a terrible crime!) were some of my favourites.

thinkingaboutit · 05/09/2006 16:00

I knew a dutch bloke called Sicco (Sicko) who lived in Ireland and got slaughtered for his name, bless his heart,

Catalina is nice
