firstly we arrived at our Lodge in Vic Falls and were greated by

"Whatmore"

When I was in the school choir there was an American girl called Lucky.

There's a little boy in the next town to me called Pelé with a VERY Scottish surname. There's also an Aaliyah, Jaxon and a Versacé

hatjam · 07/09/2006 12:51

came across a horatio recently

kittylette · 07/09/2006 12:52

Austin in its self is lovely,

but my first thought is Austin Powers, or Austin from the backyardigans,

but i do really like it, and if you do, then go for it,

no one liked Dexter when i announced it during my pregnancy, but now most people love it,

and my son is definatly a Dexter

breadandroses · 07/09/2006 12:57

Alex james (ex-bassist from Blur) has a Geronimo, Gallileo and another one whose name escapes me.
Mr James, I salute you!

joelallie · 07/09/2006 13:00

Jenita - don't now if it has an Italian derivation perhaps? Was too desperate to get aways without PMSL to ask ...because unfortunately her surname is Lewis.

pinknfluffy29 · 07/09/2006 13:13

FourJays · 07/09/2006 13:20

DS1 had a Flopsy at his playschool last year!

cremolafoam · 07/09/2006 13:23

are his siblings called Mopsy and Cottontail then?

DollyP · 07/09/2006 13:25

D'artagnan, bloody hell!

I have taught a girl called Tuesday...born on a friday. She must get sick of answering that Q.

Saw a friend in hospital who was delivered by Patience, and subsequently looked after by Comfort and Happiness. The baby in the bed opposite had been named J-Lo. Or perhaps Jaylo as didn't see it written down.

I think VB's choice of names are always interesting. Brooklyn is OK but Romeo is frightful. Cruz apparently is a girl's name in spanish and is very religious. If she has a girl, then she will be Luna (moon), which I think is quite pretty. Can probably only get away with it if you're famous though. Not sure Luna Smith would go down well round these parts.

FourJays · 07/09/2006 13:25

I shudder to think!
She was a girl. Does that make it better? With a name like that you can't really see her ever being a top barrister or anything can you? It's a stripper's name.

KES3 · 07/09/2006 14:06

I knew of someone called Wayne Carr, not surprisingly he changed it as soon as he was old enough!

Also know someone whose middle name is Armageddon - made him show us his passport before we believed him!

wrinklytum · 07/09/2006 14:42

Heard of a kid who was named "Burned Brain".Supposed to be Bernard Brian but parents spelt it incorrectly!!!

Hallgerda · 07/09/2006 14:43

FourJays, I wouldn't have thought Flopsy was a very appetising stripper name. Sleep therapist maybe?

pooka · 07/09/2006 14:44

Ah but Frank Lampard already has a Luna with his wife Elen Rives. So think Posh might deem it a bit common for her dd should she ever have one. I like it actually, but not sure I could get away with it.
I was nearly called Loveday - was my mother's fave name. Maiden name Cox. Not so sure whether it would have worked......
Even the most innocuous of names can be a cause for teasing. DD is Lucy and she keeps being called poosey by some kid at pre-school. Fortunately she hasn't really developed a sense of humour yet and I think she thinks this boy is hard of hearing instead of taking the mickey.

saltire · 07/09/2006 14:50

There is a Montgomery at Ds school, and a girl called Stazia, whose mum liked the name Anastacia but felt it too long for their surname.

When Ds1 was born there was a boy called Alister McCoist Leighton then their surname, which escapes me. For those who don't know, Ally McCoist and Jim Leighton were Scottish footballers. I must say though, Leigton sounds a bit better than Beckham, as a first name.
