TheLadyVanishes · 23/07/2006 19:06

am i coming into this thread at a bad time? i would really appreciate some advice, my dd is 13mths and dh and other family members have been saying to sign up to modelling agency tho i have had my reservations (not south based btw) anyone signed with northern agencies. Also i was under the impression if you were with a legit agency (watching too much top model ) that you didn't need to pay them anything for joining. Any advice welcome ta

mimi1uk · 23/07/2006 19:21

hi there i do not know too much about northern agencies,, by the way ignore all that before, not a bad time at all,, u say about paying for agencies, i think that is not really the case as lots of reputable agencies do charge , hope someone else has some advice for re re norther based agencies

misdee · 23/07/2006 19:23

for adult agencies yu generally dont get charged, as adults can work more, go to functions etc etc to get their name out there. with childrens agencies there is generally a small fee.

dont apply for models direct or inspired kids.

dd3 is with cheeky kidz, and had one casting with a week of going on the books, but no work yet.

misdee · 23/07/2006 19:24

is it trace2 who is up north?

TheLadyVanishes · 23/07/2006 19:27

thanks need to do some research i think and see what agencies are in my area

educatingrita · 23/07/2006 19:33

Thomp - As most of the top agencies get work at short notice, it would be impossible to get a licence for these photoshoots.
We often get called late evening for a job the next day.
As it was explained to me when I queried it, its not the agency or the model that is liable for the licence but the client booking them. So most companies who use models, form Burberry to Tesco can well afford the £1000 fine they would incurr if they ever got caught using a model without a licence.
Yes its probably illegal (according to the council) but it goes on every day with all the big agencies I know. MOT and UA are highly respected agencies who have kids that work constantly. They do not licence them for photographic work as there simply is not the time. Just a fact of life, whether its wrong or not, this is how things are.

littlemadam · 23/07/2006 20:20

Marymay>>>we are 11.50 too!!! DS is 6, and we are with Bruce and Brown. Any idea of the content?? Sounds like a hot one too, we are going off to the Motor Show afterwards! Hopefully see you there!

julie4travel · 23/07/2006 20:21

the lady vanishes- welcome to teh thread

there is a couple of info sites on agencies run by mums you might want to look at www.childmodelling.net or www.notapushymum.com

Good Luck

(i am Cambridgeshire yet we do London agencies, didn't someone say before there was someone called dk models or something in Sheffield? not sure if thats close to u or i have got the name wrong, have a look on one of those other sites for a bit of info)

littlemadam · 23/07/2006 20:25

TheLadyVanishes>>Good Nothern agencies include DK in Sheffield (you pay for photos) and Boss in Manchester, there are lots of others, where are you?
On the licence thing, we have had one for TV stuff (BBC and Persil ad,) but not photos, they take a few days to get and usually no time. Sometimes sign model release at shoot tho.

educatingrita · 23/07/2006 20:34

Yes thats a good point, we do sign a release form.
Dont know if its the same, or counts but it must go to something.
We too, get licence's for commercials or tv work , just not for photographic work.

marymay · 23/07/2006 20:53

littemadam..a bit strange weve got the same time.hope there not loads there at that time.ive promised the kids we will go to hamleys after.i have no idea of what the content is only that its a christmas commercial.this is ds first casting so if he gets bored it might be his last. he is not as patient as his sister that been doing it a for a little while .

littlemadam · 23/07/2006 21:04

Mmm, I've only done a couple but have never had the same time as someone else. My agent may have got it wrong! Our train gets in at 11.16 anyway so can't really get there are earlier! Don't think there can be so many, that was the latest we could have, so not all day...unlike a Tomy one we did!!! Will see you there then, DS will be the one with the long hair!! Look forward to it!

mimi1uk · 23/07/2006 21:07

hi there just to say i have been to a casting where everyone had the same time as they booked people in in blocks,

littlemadam · 23/07/2006 21:17

Thaks Mimi - might be the same here, tho I did think the first time I spoke to Kipsey she said 11.40, but then when she left confirmation message she said 11.50...will check, but you may be right.

mimi1uk · 23/07/2006 21:18

oh well good luck guys !

littlemadam · 23/07/2006 21:29

Thanks guys...quick question it's our first year, is it really busy during the hols? we were meant to go to JL casting last week, had a job for Junior on Thurs and this. We haven't done more than one or two a month till now!!
