Hello, someone may remember me - have a Ds aged 5 who was not that interested when accepted by Kids London but now seems (slightly) keener. Anyway thought we'd try a casting he's been offered but have no idea what happens at these things, what to expect and what to tell him to expect. would mbe most grateful for any advice.

ellesmum · 23/07/2006 23:11

The lady vanishes - if you go along and see some agencies, ask who they've worked for, and then you could phone the companies they've quoted and asked which model agencies they use, that's one way of finding out if they legitimately get work.

The warnings about not paying up-front are generally because there are some rip-off merchants who hold "auditions" in hotels, charge you for photos & a model book, then disappear! Prices do vary though among the genuine agencies. You may get charged a nominal fee just to be seen - Norrie Carr charged me between £10 & £20, can't remember how much (after having seen and like the initial snapshot of dd), as they say it discourages timewasters (apparently they've had people not turn up, and people who haven't a clue about what's involved, so if they charge, you are more likely to have done some research and bother to go!!)

slyandgobbo · 24/07/2006 12:41

Hi Julie, casting for a job (actually the asda one mentioned by someone else!) - but I think we may not go to thsi one as we may be away anyway for second day of the shoot. But would still be grateful for information as to how these things work! thanks

julie4travel · 24/07/2006 12:54

slyandgobbo - hi ya. well my ds had one Thurs last week. I double checked with our agent that it wasn't a workshop type casting and she said they hadn't mentioned it. So it would prob be 2 or 3 kids in their at once. When i got their teh office was tiny and it was a one on one casting. She gave me a form to fill in his statistics height, expereince etc and before i had even finished it called him in. He went in and as the job was for a chatterbox part i had told him to talk about himself when asked etc. Basically she asked him if he was called his name and he said yes i am and then she said i am going to do a little game with you called stop talking, she pretended to be on a mobile and when she put her finger up he had to say stop talking! that was all the casting was! I was a bit worried if they were going to give a script at this age group incase he didn't know what the word was an get flustered yet they never asked for anything like that at all. It was all over in 2 mins. Has your agent gave you any info on if their is a script etc? i think they are testing teh confidence mainly as you won't be going inside for the casting so if the kiddies happy to go in on their own and do whatever they ask they will be fine. Unfortuatley for me my son didn't give any extra sort of chat etc so i guess that went against him as i haven't heard anything.

Do you know what the parts for? I went on NAPM and looked up the info on castings before we went as I was apprehensive too. Others may have kiddies your age group and be able to give different advise yet that was how his was last week and every casting agent works differently.

Good luck- let us know how you get on.

AllieBongo · 24/07/2006 12:57

Hi all. Anyone at the toysrus shoot tomorrow? Or going to MOT book shoot?

ErinJanesmum · 24/07/2006 14:24

Hi, I was wondering whether anyone has any experience of or has their child signed up with Model Child (www.modelchild.co.uk) based in the Northwest (Macclesfield)? DD signed with them last week.

Ragamuffin · 24/07/2006 14:36

Hi all haven't been on this site for a while now......just been very busy with work and the children's stage school show! Wish I could say we'd been busy with lots of jobs and castings. But it has been really quiet lately.

We have started the holiday off well though with the M&S TV Advert casting this am for my DD. Then we have also been asked to a casting for DD again tomorrow for Girl Talk Magazine. So excited about this one!!!!! Anyone else going???

To answer some of your questions about jobs/castings in the summer...........this is our third summer doing this. The first was quite busy, the second was hectically busy for us with at least one to 2 castings/jobs per week! This one has been slow in the run up,(June/July) but seems to be picking up. This is generally the time that a lot of the christmas stuff gets done.

tigeryuan · 24/07/2006 14:37
