I'm in the Midlands and I'm just being nosey as to who else lives in the centre of good ole Blighty - I know there are a few others (suew, lill & ailsa) but anyone else?

Dh couldn't really think of much (typical!) but JulieF's suggestions sound good. Would love to come along.

Well that's 4 of us so shall we call it a definite arrangement?? If we keep the thread active it'll come up for those people who just click on 'last day' when they come online ( like me!) and hopefully as many Midlanders as possible will see it. What sort of time suits? 7.30 ish??
Ames - do you still want a lift?? I'll ask Mumsnet to pass on my home e mail to you

GillW · 20/08/2002 13:22

Should be ok for the Sunday evening. DS has a party invite for the afternoon, but 7.30 is fine.

Jaybee · 20/08/2002 13:44

Bayleaf - where abouts are you? - I am about 45 mins from NEC - near Northamtpon!!
Can't make 22nd though!!

sylvev · 20/08/2002 18:49

Ailsa, great! Do you want to swap e-mails via Mumsnet to arrange train times etc?

bayleaf · 20/08/2002 19:45

Jaybee I'm in north Leicestershire - shame you can't make it. Maybe if this one's a success we can make it a regular thing! Maybe move it around the Midlands so that it's near everyone once!

Ailsa · 20/08/2002 23:09

Sylvev - that would be great.

Justine or anyone from mumsnet, can you pass my email address on to sylvev please.

ames · 21/08/2002 11:32

quick post as dd is crawling all over the place so i'll catch up with the thread later. I got your e-mail address bayleaf and I'll have to check for a babysitter, no I wont cos its sunday isnt, have to check with dh. Post later!

ames · 23/08/2002 20:40

Pretty sure I can make it but wont be able to drink. Did we decide on the place? Are we having a meal? Bayleaf a lift would be great or I dont mind driving. I'm away next week so I'll catch up when I get back.

bayleaf · 23/08/2002 21:55

Ames - we decided on a pub near Birmingham airport as it was the only place that was near a train station and also easy to reach by car!
I'm happy to drive dh's car as is a company car and company petrol! Besides I've been off alcohol ( well more than a glass or two) for SO long due to ttc that I barely miss it anymore..... ( sob)

thumper · 23/08/2002 21:57

Can I be really stupid and ask what ttc is?

Sylvev, got your message, will be in touch.

bayleaf · 24/08/2002 12:34

Yes it does here too - having looked at various fertilty sites there is a 'second' language used on them which without a 'lexicon' you'd never follow! To quote but a couple af is your period ( Aunt flo?!) and bd is baby dancing - sex!
Shame you can't make it SueW - we'll defintely have to repeat it - maye be Nottingham way next time??

chanelno5 · 24/08/2002 12:34

Are we definitely decided on Sun rather than Sat? If so, can I be a really awkward so-and-so and suggest that we perhaps go back to the original idea of Coventry TGI Fridays or somewhere easier to drive to than Brum. I know I was the one campaigning for the boozers to have somewhere near to a station, but now I'm thinking that trains can be notoriously bad on Sundays due to engineering work etc and might be more of a nightmare than having to forgo booze for a night. Or what about Leamington Spa or Warwick, both very pretty places with great restaurants and the locals are very friendly!!!! Also I think you can get a direct train from Worcester.

OP posts:
bayleaf · 25/08/2002 12:31

I'm happy to go back to TGIs as it is nearer for me!

thumper · 25/08/2002 12:35

SueW, Thanks. Silly me!

chanelno5 · 25/08/2002 13:08

What does everyone think about going back to the Coventry TGIs idea then? Will it definitely be a evening meet up rather than lunchtime?

OP posts:
bayleaf · 26/08/2002 12:46

I would prefer evening - but am happy to do lunchtime if that is a majority preference.

sylvev · 26/08/2002 21:22

Hi. I would prefer lunchtime, Saturday or Sunday. Birmingham would be my first choice, but happy to go along with the majority. I would still like to travel by train, is this venue near ths station?

GillW · 27/08/2002 12:53

Couldn't do Saturday lunchtime - Saturday evening or Sunday are ok though. Sylvev - I'm afraid TGI Friday's in Coventry is quite a long way from the station - you'd need a taxi rather than walking. If anyone fancies chanelno5's idea of Leamington or Warwick I could probably help with restaurants etc as I live very close to both of them (railway stations in both are a little way out of the centre, but easily walkable).

bayleaf · 27/08/2002 19:50

Unfortunately if we go with the leamington /Warwick option we get back to it being hard for people who don't know the towns to get there by car unless the restaurant is on the outskirts - that was the plus point of the Vintage Inn near Birmingham airport - it was near a station but also very easy to reach by car - I live in North Leicestershire but can easily get to the airport out of rush hour in 45 minutes.

Gillw if you can make Saturday now then why don't we go back to the 21st at the Birmingham venue - then Chanelno5 can get a train easily ( and Sylvev), from what I remember the reason for going for the 22nd was that you couldn't make the 21st before ( correct me if I've got this all confused - we do seem to be going round in ever decreasing circles!)

GillW · 27/08/2002 21:13

There don't seem to be any big evening events (concerts, etc) on at the NEC that weekend, so there shouldn't be a problem with parking, etc on the Saturday evening.

sylvev · 27/08/2002 21:48

I'm getting a bit fuddled now! Have we decided on Sat. 21st Sept, evening, @ The little Owl nr. Birmingham International Station?

If so, I'll be there! What time suits everyone?

Ailsa, did you get my e-mail? If so, it should be: .com, not .co.uk. (Can't remember what I put)!
