I'm in the Midlands and I'm just being nosey as to who else lives in the centre of good ole Blighty - I know there are a few others (suew, lill & ailsa) but anyone else?

Ailsa · 01/08/2002 21:08

Just thought I'd revive this one.

Anyone still interested? Hopefully I'm going to Birmingham tomorrow, so I'll look around for somewhere to go.

sylvev · 01/08/2002 22:16

well done, Ailsa. Yep, I'm still interested, enjoy your day out. I'm away for 2 weeks from tomorrow, but any Saturday in September should be fine for me.

GillW · 02/08/2002 12:00

Hi - Haven't been around here for long, so missed the earlier part of this, but I'm in Warwickshire and would be happy to join in if you're still open to newcomers?

bayleaf · 06/08/2002 21:22

Yes - I've kept meaning to revive this one - I think we'd provisionally agreed on the 21st September...Shall we stick with that?
My preference was for TGI Fridays in Coventry - being utterly selfish as it's easy to get to for me from Leicester!

GillW · 06/08/2002 21:50

Suits me - I only live about 10 minutes away from TGI Friday's.

ames · 06/08/2002 22:17

big vote for tgi's, i'll be there! and i know what i'm having!!!!

Ailsa · 07/08/2002 21:13

21st September and TGI's fine by me.

GillW · 08/08/2002 11:17

Just found out that DH has a previous engagement for 21st Sept - will have to check with MIL whether she could have DS for a few hours.

bayleaf · 08/08/2002 18:38

Well how are people fixed for the 22nd? It's worth at least considering?? We generally have less on on a Sunday than on a Saturday.

Ailsa · 08/08/2002 21:52

either for me

GillW · 08/08/2002 22:37

22nd should be ok I think

bayleaf · 09/08/2002 08:54

Ames? Sylvev? Hilary??? ChanelNo5? Lill? Ailsa? Rosilee? Munchie? SueW? Helenmh?? Spring?? Candy? Hilary?
(Hope I haven't missed anyone!)
How about it????

helenmh · 09/08/2002 10:25

We are away in sunny turkey. Have a good time
helen

chanelno5 · 09/08/2002 17:33

Bayleaf - Thanks for the invite! Should be ok for either date, but would it be possible to have a venue near a train station so us old boozers can indulge??

OP posts:
bayleaf · 09/08/2002 20:16

Hi Chanelno5 - Hmmm - it's a hard one as by definition anything that is near a train station is going to be city centre and thus hard to get to for those of us going by car - I don't know Coventry so I've no idea how far TGIF is from the station buy I presume not walking distance. Does anyone else have any bright ideas?

bayleaf · 12/08/2002 11:49

Had a thought yesterday - are there any restaurants anywhere near Birmingham International station - I know that is near the airport and the airport is certainly easy to reach by car - it's only about 45 mins from where I live in good traffic even tho it's quite a distance in miles.

GillW · 12/08/2002 13:11

There's a vintage inn called (I think) "The Little Owl" next to the Holiday Inn Express on the NEC site, which is adjacent to the international station.

Philippat · 12/08/2002 13:57

Can I come too? I live in Wolverhampton but will happily travel eastwards...

chanelno5 · 12/08/2002 19:12

Will ask my dh if he knows of anywhere near the airport, he's always flying from there so might have noticed something on his travels.

OP posts:
bayleaf · 15/08/2002 10:21

Well this is sounding good - are we agreed that 22nd Septmeber and somewhere near Birmingham airport/international BT station - The Vintage Inn if we can't find anything better?????
Even if the food is dire ( Not saying it is , just that it's an unknown quantity!) those who want to can drink (!) and we're all really there for reasons other than food anyhow I suppose....

JulieF · 15/08/2002 22:57

Just to let you all know, I used to work at The NEC and often used to go to The Little Owl (Vintage pub). The food is great, and large portions too.

Alternativly there is a nice Toby carvery nearby too, on the big roundabout just off the Coventry Road. If there are a few of you you might struggle getting in there though.

Julie

JulieF · 15/08/2002 23:00

There is also The Clock on the Coventry Road itself, a big steak place. The service there can be very slow sometimes though.

Julie

bayleaf · 16/08/2002 14:57

Thanks JulieF - it sounds fine then - so how many could make that venue and date??? I'm rather aware that if we don't agree somewhere soon it'll be the 22nd Sept before we know it and we'll miss our 'date'!

sylvev · 19/08/2002 21:09

22nd should be fine for me. I shall probably travel by train. Anyone else from the Worcester area planning to go by train and fancy travelling together?

Ailsa · 20/08/2002 00:24

Count me in for the 22nd.

Sylvev - I'll be travelling by train from Worcester.
