My second thread. The first is awaiting deletion due to details that were in the thread.

Basically, my brother is in intensive care with multiple stab wounds, he is stable, but critical. So he could go either way.

At the moment it doesn't feel real to me, I feel like I'm in a soap or something! It's very surreal :(

Nighttime hand available here. Although, he sounds as if he is doing much better.

Horsemad · 09/01/2013 13:09

Hope your brother is continuing to improve Cunny.

WhenSantaGotStuckUpACunnyFunt · 09/01/2013 14:07

The ECMO is doing its job well, his heart rate is now at 60, his blood pressure is normal and the infection is going. He is still critical but his chances of recovery are looking much better :)

If anyone is interested, this is ECMO. I read online that the average cost for 1 person to recieve the ECMO treatment is £45,000, and the average time is 8 days. They think my brother will be on it around a month or so. I dread to think how much a month would cost! Shock

Brilliant news Cunny!

Thank God for the NHS, I know they get a lot of slagging off, but they are there for lots of people.

streakybacon · 09/01/2013 14:50

Great news, you must be very relieved Smile.

trulymadlydeeply · 09/01/2013 15:51

Just read your thread, Cunny. A roller coaster. Really hope that he continues to make great progress. You must all be shattered.

Please keep us posted and I've got everything crossed for his continuing recovery.

:)

Sunnywithshowers · 09/01/2013 16:00

Cunny, that's fantastic news. :)

I love the NHS. My DB had a an accident and broke his neck - and walked out of hospital 8 days later.

lunar1 · 09/01/2013 16:07

I'm so happy to read your update. I think we hear so many people complain about the nhs that we sometimes forget what a truly amazing service it is. Keep us updated won't you!

xxDebstarxx · 09/01/2013 16:50

So happy to hear the positive outlook.

WhenSantaGotStuckUpACunnyFunt · 09/01/2013 17:32

My mum's just updated, his eyelids flickered and his lips moved earlier! The nurse told him not to worry and he was being looked after and he went back to sleep :)

I will update until he's home and fully recovered (physically anyway, I imagine the psychological side of it will take a while :(), I like doing it, it's a bit like keeping a diary of what's happened.

SecretNutellaFix · 09/01/2013 17:37

Every small improvement is a welcome one. Plus it's better for him if his sleep is a natural one, rather than drug induced.

I keep checking in on you.

EvianBaby · 09/01/2013 20:08

Great news!! He's got a lot of people who love him to keep fighting for. Try and look after yourself too. Having a chid who's frequently in hospital I know how hard that is, but you should at least eat and drink regularly. I'll keep everything crossed for more good news. Take care xx

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/01/2013 20:22

Great news Cunny, sending continued best wishes, virtual handholding and hugs xx

chipsahoy · 09/01/2013 20:40

Wow, I read this thread with my heart in my mouth and tears in my eyes.

Your brother is a fighter, I'm so pleased he's made such progress. This procedure sounds amazing.

Brilliant fantastic news. Well done cunnty's brother and the NHS.

BitBewildered · 09/01/2013 22:14

Brilliant news! Hope you're all benefitting from a bit more stability and a bit less exhausting stress. Still keeping my fingers crossed that he keeps getting better.

HintofBream · 09/01/2013 23:36

It would be lovely if you could have a good night's sleep. You must be exhausted. You certainly deserve some rest after all you have been through supporting your brother and the rest of the family; you are amazing.

lunar1 · 11/01/2013 07:25

Hope things are going ok still.
