Aillidh Christine Kinnaird died of complications from treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia at around 11.30 on 8 July 2012. She was surrounded by family and friends and most of all, love.

My heart goes out to Expat and her family xxx

By a complete coincidence both Murray and Federer have just been photographed with a little boy who also had acute myeloid leukaemia. I had no idea how devastating the treatment for the disease was until expat told us about Aillidh and her fortitude. I hope and pray that a 'kinder' way of treating this illness will one day be discovered.

"The mention of my child's name may bring tears to my eyes, but it never fails to bring music to my ears. If you are really my friend, let me hear the beautiful music of her name. It soothes my broken heart and sings to my soul."

Much love to Expat and all of Aillidh's family and friends xx

PiggyPlumPie · 08/07/2012 14:13

I am so very very sorry - sounds inadequate but I like many others do not have the words.

Aillidh was a beautiful girl whose story has touched many many people on here.

Much love to expat, mr expat, her siblings and all family and friends.

Sleep peacefully little angel.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 08/07/2012 14:14

There's a poem by Raymond Carver. It was read at my mum's funeral and it's been running through my head since I heard the news about Aillidh

"And did you get what you wanted from this life even so?
I did.
And what was it that you wanted?
To call myself beloved; to feel myself beloved upon the earth"

And my word, Aillidh was beloved upon the earth. There's a new star in the sky tonight. May she shine as brightly in the heavens and she did here on earth.

I will light my candle one last time tonight, and pray for strength, comfort and peace for her family.

FuckityFuckFuck · 08/07/2012 14:18

Ailidh - you are truly loved. You are such a brave, strong girl and you have brought people from all over the world together. You have inspired people with your courage, your family and friends have inspired people with their love for you.
