OK ladies, own up! How much did your handbag cost?

Rather a daft query, I know, but I have spotted a rather lovely leather "Radley" handbag. Trouble is it costs £90. (Even though DH has said he'd get it for me for Xmas/birthday present, I'm still not sure I can justify £90 on a handbag!)

How much would you spend on a handbag - do you think £90 is too much?

Vacuous even

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 10:04

Melsy I wasn't referring to you!

suedonim · 03/12/2003 10:04

Currently, a Prada (ahem) bag that cost me 100,000Rupiah (or about 7gbp, if you insist!) My most expensive bag was about 50gbp. I'm not inclined to pay a lot, because once I stop using a bag, I never go back to it, even though I tell myself I will. I end up chucking them.

I could kick myself about another bag, though. I gave away a genuine Pierre Cardin bag in Jakarta because it was too small. When we came home, I realised that it would have been fine here, because I don't need to carry all the cr*p that I had to, out there. Oh, well, that's life.

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 10:06

writer of article, I mean just read it, how sad and empty must her life be if all she can think of doing when she gets a bit of cash is buying a stupid handbag. What about having some fun or going away or giving to charity or something, anything rather than blowing it on a stupid HANDBAG!

Ooooh I am Mrs grumpyknicks this am!

fio2 · 03/12/2003 10:06

I have only just started using a handbag and feel really old doing so. Handbags are usually presents off my rellies because I jrust cant think of anything worse than going gooey over a bag that filled with receipts, tissues and tampons

melsy · 03/12/2003 10:07

Is it your time of the month 2???? Sorree no offence

fio2 · 03/12/2003 10:08

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 10:08

No, I just feel strongly about people wasting money on designer crap! (apart from my lovely Calvin Klein coat of course....)

samACon · 03/12/2003 10:32

Well I've just had a knock on the door and my new baby/hand bag has just arrived from vert baudet, which cost me £13 in the sale!

ThomCat · 03/12/2003 10:44

TBH - I don't know - I bought it in Paris and didn't bother to work out what it cost in th UK!!! I was pregnant and being impulsive. It's jade sequins with a mustard/green mesh stitch over that. Sounds gross but it always recieves compliments. It's large enough to fit in nappys, changing mat rolled up thing, wipes, food, bottle of water and my purse, phone etc and could never be mistaken for a nappy / muummy bag and I love it!

I also have a Triple 5 Soul rucksac that agin bought in NYC - so not sure as when in NYC you just see it and buy it - wrap it and pack it as I say - put that baby on the card! (not baby baby!)

I also do have a £3 shoulder handbag from primark which is great for taking to bars with vital stuff in.

Oh and Ii have a Prada slip bag (ohhh - get me!)which was a pressie from the BF when she was in Hong Kong.

Actually I own about 14 bags and today everything is stuffed in my pockets!!

M2T · 03/12/2003 10:47

£90 IMO Is WAAAAAAAY too much!

I always have bought cheap, cheerful, but fashionable ones.
Recently I treated myself to a black leather one which was reduced to £15. The handle snapped off after 3mths!

So I just bought a Florence & Fred black handbag with cream stitching. Very trendy, very practical.... It cost £8!

samAcon, vertbaudet selling babies now?

princesspeahead · 03/12/2003 12:01

Well countess drac will hate me and call me vacuous but my everyday handbag was £700. Fendi.
It is beautiful, and indestructible (used almost every wintry day for three years now and still looks immaculate) and I love it. So on a cost per use basis and a feel-happy-when-you-use-it basis I think it is good value...

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 12:03

PPH you know my opinion on your handbag

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 12:05

Have just called Jarvis and he is on the M4 on his way to PPH Towers to beat you up.

CountessDracula · 03/12/2003 12:05

(and nick handbag and give it to me)

princesspeahead · 03/12/2003 12:15

I can just see me and jarvis having a stand up fight in the drive of pph towers, tugging my handbag between us!

it has a lovely sterling silver heavy buckle countess, you'd like it, honestly...!

scoobysnax · 03/12/2003 12:18

£700 for a bag does seem to be placing a very high priority on how important a bag is - unless you have so much money that it doesn't mean much anymore?
Sorry if this sounds judgemental, it isn't meant to be, I am just quite shocked and uncomprehending!
