As an offshoot of the Baby Modelling thread here is the new and improved thread for all questions you may have regarding agencies, the industry or just to relate general experiences. The last thread is hereby laid to rest - it was 5 YEARS OLD! Jeez!

If you want to DEBATE or CRITICISE go to the "Child Modelling - Debate" thread.

sorry rhubarb....we are not with Bizzykidz so no advert from me - just know whats involved with regards to licenses! All agencies operate differently......but I know you won't want me to bore you with all of that!!!!!
Anyway, Keep up the good banter...its healthy to have debates.

hahahehe · 11/01/2006 23:36

bundle.....how many 'unsick' people sit in the waiting room to claim sicknotes?????? I am quite happy to pay for the certificate but as I understand it goes in the drs pocket NOT to the NHS!!

bundle · 11/01/2006 23:41

the dr is paid by the nhs to see people for a certain number of hrs per day. gp's got so peed off with people asking for their passport applications signed a few years back that they stopped doing them/asked for a fee. and according to a gp i spoke to today, only v few people try to pull a fast one by pretending they're sick to their gp.

kylesmybaby · 12/01/2006 01:01

guzzleguts - i dont think mine was dated but BK date it when you give it to them - mines up now and when i contacted them was told i needed another

2ManyPimms · 12/01/2006 10:09

Cyan, I never thought of that! I always took it as read that children in publications were found through agencies. Going to look into this...

Bundle - Glad you aren't a practice manager but also terribly pleased that I could afford to pay double as well! 25 quid isn't bad for taking two seconds to put a signature to a pre-worded statement. 50 quid and if I were a Dr., I'd specialise in "Sick notes" and "Health Certificates". It is like a license to print your own money!!!

I wonder how many of you would actually let your child model for free?
And be honest now!

2ManyPimms · 12/01/2006 11:01

I would for the following publications...

non-profit organisations
medical journals
local mum's magazines
local newspapers
eco-companies (eg., Ecover)

Off to lunch and I'll probably come up with another couple...

Hi Rhubarb

I agree with what you are saying, I have often found myself asking which parents are in it simply for the experience ie gaining some pictures and those who are actually in it for themselves - and before i get pounced on I am not referring to anyone on this board in particular rather the jobs/castings we have been to, as both a parent and a journalist.
When my ds had his photoshoot -he has with Norrie- I remember laughing at one mother in particular who wouldn't let her little boy play with any of the other kids simply for the fact she didn't want his clothes to get dirty- i mean that for me is just a tad over the top, how are kids supposed to gain social/interactive skills etc (the shoot in the end was a nappy shot!).
As a journalist, I have found some mothers, not all of them rude. Once I was doing some sort of word on the street thing, like a voxpop but for a mag and some of the women were just awful, but hey that's life.

Pimms- yes get in touch with mags/local newspapers are a good one too, I wrote the feature on baby massage which is how I got drawn into it. I have to say the snaps that I got my boy were great and to get them for nothing, the paper even came to my house as the essence was that it was something that should be done in the comfort of one's home!

codnotamod · 12/01/2006 13:30

oh no

thte hting i hates abotu the old threads was hte fact i fel mn was benig used by popele whoposted on no other threads

Rhubarb · 12/01/2006 13:34

Hmm, good point Cod. Is there anyone on here who only posts on this thread?
Just curious, before you all pounce on me about liberty, etc!

codnotamod · 12/01/2006 13:40

all of em

hahahehe · 12/01/2006 15:59

Hey cod/rhubarb,
I will happily admit that intially I did only post on the 'modelling' thread as that is how I discovered MN but have since become addicted to the other posts as well. I tend to read more than post as I always seem to start a posting and then get distracted!
But I am happy to respect that everyone has different opinions and we will never all like the same things.....after all you can't all fancy my gorgeous DH!!!!!

2ManyPimms · 12/01/2006 19:35

I only post on this thread.

perfumelady · 14/01/2006 13:57

have any of you with babies got your date to go to the urban angels shoot? i know a few of you were talking about it on the other thread.

tinkerbellchelle · 14/01/2006 16:41

We havent yet, have u?

LoveMyGirls · 14/01/2006 17:10

just wondered what made you involve your kids in child modelling, i thought about it with dd1 as everyone stopped me in the street to say how gorgeous she is but iu didnt have a car or the internet at the time so i pushed the thought out of my head i now have 2 very beautiful children and this thread made me think about it again, wondering if you have any words of wisdom and do your kids enjoy it?

perfumelady · 14/01/2006 20:01

tinkerbellchelle no we are already with urban angels, just wondered if any of you guys knew when you had to go, just being curious

LoveMyGirls how old are your children? my dd's are 8 and 11 and they love modelling. i do have a car but i wouldn't even dream of driving to london if we go to a job or casting we catch the train then jump in a cab (won't do tubes) it is so much quicker. are you based near london? we are on the south coast so quite a long way to drive.

totallyfloaty35 · 15/01/2006 00:16

PERFUMELADY do you live in the worthing area?Alysia told me she had taken on a model that lived near me. are both your dd's with her and have they both worked? Im interested as your girls are similar age to mine but only my eldest is with UA

I live in Worthing and my DD is 2.5, but she is with BK and we've been with them year and a half, had one casting in London and got train and then bus, wasn't too bad. May apply to UA in May when they open their books again.

LoveMyGirls · 15/01/2006 09:58

can anyone give me a list of good and bad points??

marymay · 15/01/2006 14:05

lovemygirls.i think your older dd will really enjoy it .my dd is 9 and loves having her photo taken.i have a 7 year old ds which everyone tells me is handsome but is not interested in modelling at all.i also think it is not all about how pretty they are it is about how well they photograph my dd is very photogenic.her photos always seem to come out well.you may only get a couple of calls a year.so its a bit of fun and a day out.see loved seeing herself in the marks and spencers mag at christmas. for us there is no bad points.as its very low key .we live in south east london so the travel not a problem.

perfumelady · 15/01/2006 15:17

i think marymays point is a very good one my dd2 has a friend at school who is beautiful but her mum said she never looks nice in a photo.

totallyfloaty35 no i live near portsmouth, my 8 year old is with urban angels my 11 year old is with bizzykidz but i haven't bothered up dating her photos because i have moved her to an agency that only take on children with performing arts training she is more into acting than modelling.

marymay how are you? did your dd do the m&s mag through urban angels
