MY NANNA CAME ROUND THIS MORNING TO GIVE US OUR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS SHE ASKED MY BOYFRIEND TO HELP WITH HEAVY BAG I SAID HE CANT CUZ HE WAS IN CAR CRASH ANE GOT CRACKED BONES IN BACK AND NOT ALLOWED 2 LEFT HEAVY THINGS

SO I GIVE HER HER PRESENT (A BOX OF BLACK MAGIC CHOCLATES) SHE WENT HOME THEN PHONED UP MY MUM LATER SAYING SHES NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT I GOT HER SHE ALSO CALLED DP A LAZY SLOB CUZ HE DIDNT HELP HER AND CUZ OF THAT WE GAVE ALL HER PRESENTS BACK TO HER

AND NOW SHES NOT TALKING TO ANY OF US HOW CHILDISH IS THAT

I had a cracker this week. Keaving the (posh private) hospital where I had my varicose veins stripped,I was given a letter for my doctor who is Dr. Huws. On the envelope was written 'Dr. Huw's'

I was never taught punctuation and grammar at school so if in doubt I get DH to check over stuff.

English is his second language but he was taught it properly.

I had an Icelandic friend in uni. Once reduced an (admittedly very pissed) English lecturer to tears with his dogged ramming home of points re syntax.

The only mistake I ever heard him make (orally) in four years was to pronounce 'giraffe' with the 'g' sound at the start of the word 'girl' which for some reason was hysterically funny.

Maybe your nan feels excluded and that has made her so curmudgeonly? She might feel as though no one cares about her and has subconsciously made herself a pain in the arse in order to get some attention. The box of chocolates might have been somewhat of a last straw for her - she may have let things build up in her head so much thinking that none of you care etc, and she feels "fobbed off" with a "measley" box of chocolates when all she wants is to feel loved and involved? Does she have difficulty talking about her feelings?

What is the difference between 'discreet/discrete' ???
