WW/Squirrel - don't forget as a MNer you get 10% off at Isabella Oliver & other maternity places. Check the discounts page! :)

Squirrel - My SIL had GD. Her DS was induced at 38.5weeks. He wasn't as big as they had thought though. Just 7lbs 14oz, they had guessed at 9lbs, this was a precaution really as she is very small! He was/is perfectly healthy & she was tucking into chocolate & full fat coke within a week! :)

WW - I think it's just the cake that is WoW themed...lucky me!

nannyl · 22/05/2011 21:52

Hello

Squirrel i have just PM'ed you a copy of the email i wrote to my friend who asked for my opinion on real nappies a few months ago. (Its rather long so i have not posted it on here, if anyone else wants it, just ask and ill Pm you it too Smile)

Bebe how exciting about a wedding cake Smile (though having seen so many of your cake photos on facebook i can see why you have been asked... you are clearly VERY talented (and it seems your DD has lots of oppertunites to practice too Wink) Hope your eye gets better soon

squirrel sorry to here about GD Sad

100 sorry your pelvis is so painful

Hope EVERYONE gets better soon

I had a quiet day today... did almost nothing this am while OH played golf and ran some errands etc. We watched the grand prix together this afternoon then went for a walk and got back within seconds of it POURING.
Had a lovely roast this afternoon and I have had a bath reading a home-birth book that I got at NCT

For my £6.50 i got a 1.5 tog 6 - 18m cream gro-bag. (Uni sex and ideal for hotter days (rare in yorkshire!) and holidays... the 'one' i want... there were 3 identical, 1 £10, 1 £8 and 1 £1.50 so o got the £1.50 one Grin a yoga for pregnancy DVD, a maxi cosi car seat snuggle thing (figure in yorkshire its FREEZING so poor baby will need it, and when i use buggy as a travel system in winter baby will have another layer of warmth) and some brand new tommee tippee closer to nature breast milk storage pot things, + the home birth book.

My sister is coming to stay tomorrow Smile She normally works in London but has a meeting in Manchester so is staying here for the night. Will be great to see her!

squirrel007 · 22/05/2011 22:58

Glad to hear your SIL made a full recovery bebe :) it's reassuring to hear that other people had it and with no ill effects! And I didn't know about the discounts! Probably too late this time, but I'll remember if I ever decide to do this again :)

And thanks very much for the email nannyl Grin I haven't read it in full yet, but when I have some spare time to properly research I'll read it all in detail and look up pictures and prices at the same time.

bebejones · 23/05/2011 08:39

Nannyl - Some fabulous bargains as always! :o Have a lovely time with your sister.

Depressingly I was just logging cycle data on ff & noticed I am on cycle 21 since I joined (not even at the beginning of waiting). 21 missed opportunities!

DH needs a slap! Must pull self together & rant nag bully coax gently persuade him into seeing my point of view!

ShaggingWithIntent · 23/05/2011 10:19

Oh Bebe - 21 cycles is a long time. On the positive side though it means that you have lots of data to rely on and should eb able to time your TTC to the hour when you rant nag bul coax-- DH to TTC Wink

Having been a bit confused by me OPKs last week it now looks as though I am OVing today/tomorrow so I am trying to persuade DH that it's not completedy mad for me to drive to London tonight to make him supper and get in some BD before driving home to Bath......... It's that or we're out for this month.... FX please :)

Will have a FB nosey this week so I can try and work out who is who! :)

bebejones · 23/05/2011 10:40

You would think that at 21 cycles I'd have it sussed...but my body has other ideas! Just as I work it out AF turns up 6 days early! Hmm

FX for a trip to London!! Wink

ShaggingWithIntent · 23/05/2011 11:16

yeah - mine was early last month too. I wondered if it was a chemical as I felt really sick but it could just be my body playing silly buggers with me! If only it was simple and you could guarantee that as soon as you decided to have a baby you'd get upduffed!!!

strawberrypie · 23/05/2011 11:21

Please could you PM the e-mail about nappies nannyl? I knew you would have some useful experience!

Sorry to hear about the GD squirrel but it sounds like you have got everything under control.

I have tried to upload some wedding photos but I think the files are too big- I may have to experiment with condensing them or something

100years I would have been spitting feathers over that comment about the pregnant lady! "well she is walking fine" ! Hmmmph! I hope the physio helps.

bebe I saw a really cute idea for decorating cup cakes online- each one has the face of the cookie monster in blue icing with white choc button eyes and half a cookie in it's mouth- they are gorgeous and made me think of you!
TBH I can't see what real objections you OH could have to having baby number 2 with you being at home anyway- even if money is tight it would not make that much difference (appart from to your happiness and that is really important!)

bebejones · 23/05/2011 11:42

Strawberry - I have seen the cookie monster cupcakes, they are SO cute! I love them. Need an excuse to make them, and seeing as Sesame Street isn't shown in the UK anymore (Hmm & Angry) DD has no clue who the cookie monster is!

Have made coconut & raspberry cupcakes today. :) Did Apple crumble & custard cupcakes over the weekend!

I am so Angry with my fat cat today. Yet again he has ripped open the rubbish bag and strewn it's contents over the front path! The bin is full...think I'll have to get another one!

100 - when is physio? Hope it helps.

ShaggingWithIntent · 23/05/2011 12:24

Those cupcakes look AMAZING!! I am so going to make some of those (do I need a reason to make them?)

DH's leaving work early to meet me at the flat so I'm all on for SWI tonight Wink

Hello all, just popping in.

SWI, loving your SWI-organising. Your DH has clearly got thoroughly behind the idea. Good luck tonight!

I am sad to be missing out on the FB fun but because of mine and DP's jobs I also have to be very careful with using FB.

Bebe any news on your foot?

Jbells how have the first days been?

ShaggingWithIntent · 23/05/2011 15:18

I know - I feel like some crazy babymad wife but keep on telling myself that if it wasn't for us living apart I wouldn't have to be so organised........... or at least my organisation would just be seen as me jumping DH!!!

Very good that he's on board though :) Proof that they can change their minds if you nag give them time!!!

bebejones · 23/05/2011 15:55

I think my DH may have had too much time!!! I can't nag, I get shouted at & he sulks! :(

:o at SWI's BDD (Baby Dancing Dash)

jbells · 23/05/2011 16:31

Waves to everyone ive missed im on my fone with baby on top of me so hav only managed to catch up with this page :( sorry for bein rubbish at keeping up

squirrel007 · 23/05/2011 18:47

Hi everyone!

Another (possibly stupid) question nannyl (and anyone else who knows!) - how old are babies before they can use a grobag? Is it from birth, or do you have to wait till they're a bit older? And if older, what do newborns use to sleep in?

bebe I really hope you get a chance to bring ttc up with your DH soon - you've been so patient and I think your DH needs to sit up and take notice Grin

I'm laughing at your babymad dash swi :)

nannyl hope you're having fun catching up with your sister.

strawberry you could try uploading the photos to tinypic.com/ if you can't think of another way to compress them?

whywait GD should clear up straight away (I think it's essentially caused by the placenta blocking insulin) but it does mean I'm higher risk than before, and have to be under hospital care now, not community midwife.

jbells I think you have a good excuse for not catching up! Glad the first week has gone well :) I'm consoling myself with the thought that a) not eating cake means I won't put on too much weight for this pregnancy and b) cake will taste amazing once I can eat it again! Meanwhile, I am just drooling over bebe's photos!

Have had a quiet day here, work is winding down even though I have 4 weeks left (project is now on hold so there's not much work to do) and I'm sorting out the last of the baby stuff this week - sleeping stuff and nappies are the main things left to sort!

Hope you're all well :)

bebejones · 23/05/2011 19:41

Nothing to report just wanted to answer Squirrel -
IIRC Growbags can be used from 8lbs weight (although I think you can get smaller ones for much smaller babies Hmm Nannyl feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). DD wasn't in hers for about 5-6weeks. But 8lbs(ish) is average weight for a newborn these days apparently! Confused

jbells · 23/05/2011 20:03

Squirral i second bebe. U can get growbags from around 8lb but to begin with i always just use blankets i tend to just use growbags once they can move around and kick blankets of themselves

bebejones · 24/05/2011 20:06

Stand back...I need to vent!!!

The little sister of a friend of ours (also a friend really) is pregnant with her 2nd child. DH was told this today in confidence (she is only about 6weeks)! Her DD isn't 2 til October (not that that's relevant really, just that she is younger than my DD), she is 21 (also again, not relevant really, except in as much as she is younger than me) her boyfriend is a lazy arse who flits from job to job when he gets bored or can't be bothered to go to work, and less than a year ago she wanted to leave him coz she doesn't love him & realised that he was a useless lazy bum, and the only way they can afford the DD they have is coz her dad pays their rent & her mother & sister buy everything for them! I am angry on 2 counts (and yes I realise IABU):

  1. If she can have a 2nd baby given her situation (& DH thinks this is exciting & is pleased for her) then why, oh why the fuck can't we?!!?

and 2. Why the hell did he tell me when he was a.told in confidence & b. knew full well it would upset me?!

Stood & sobbed while I did the washing up. I'm really very very close to snapping.

Plus DD has been extra cute and adorable today, and asked me, no actually pleaded with me, for a baby brother. 'Please mummy, I really really want a baby brother to look after & play with'!

Puts me in such an awkward position when I'm supposed to be seeing this friend next week for the DDs to have a playdate. I'm not supposed to know, don't know how I can bring myself to look her in the eye.

Trying SO hard to be happy for her, but keep flitting from Envy to Angry to v v v :(

ShaggingWithIntent · 24/05/2011 21:08

ARGH!!
wine
What a twunt your DH is being. Can you get mad at him and let him know what a &^$% he is being???

bebejones · 24/05/2011 21:31

Having said he knew full well it would upset me, I'm not even sure he does know. Seems completely oblivious. Hmm

Going to crawl into bed early. After I have lifted DD, hung the washing up, put the rubbish out, fed the cats & made his lunch for tomorrow! This house would fall apart if it wasn't for me, and I'm not feeling particularly loved or appreciated! (Well DD loves and appreciates me, but that's not the same!)

ShaggingWithIntent · 24/05/2011 21:43

hmmmmm i'd be really petty and "forget" to make his lunch!!!

You're a better person than me though :)

squirrel007 · 24/05/2011 22:15

bebe have a hug and some Wine

You always sound so patient and understanding, I really hope your DH appreciates it, even if he doesn't seem to show it.

And as for making him lunch, I wouldn't either!

nannyl · 25/05/2011 08:54

Morning all.

strawberry I PM'ed you my nappy email (sorry its rather long!)

Squirrel, others have answered you and agree with them Smile most teeny tiny new-borns will be too big even for the smallest sleeping bag. Most (although i know not all) newborns like to be swaddled for a few weeks / months and by which time they are normally big enough to go into a small sleeping bag.
You can get newborn sized swaddle sleeping bags like this "swaddle pod" which is sort of a cross between the two.

bebe sorry to hear about you DH again. Agree with others I'd forget about lunch too! GRRRRRRRR & AGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

No major news here. Was lovely to see my sister even if only briefly. We had morroccon lamb tagine followed by blackcurrent cheesecake. (was yummy, blackcurrents from MILs garden from last year as i have loads of fruit and trying to run freezer down, so i can fill it with proper meals before baby arrives)

Also i might not be around for a few days. We are going down south later today, so I need to get on with packing / getting petrol. VERY busy day tomorrow, (doubt i'll get online at all) and again on Friday... other very very good friends wedding. Cant wait to see my friends and their new little baby Smile.
Also got a hair appt (again at my old hairdresser down south!, and last time i was there he joked "I bet next time I see you you will be pg" Grin well he was right!!!!!
Not back until Monday night, so i might not get a chance to be back til then.

Right must go and get on with stuff. Hope everyone has a fab bank holiday weekend Smile

Quodlibet · 25/05/2011 09:14

Bebe I was going to say it sounds as though he is oblivious rather than being spiteful, maybe he hasn't thought about the social faux pas of you knowing when you're not meant to. But he's also clearly not thinking at all about how you feel which is a Gruffaloable offense.

It's really hard for me to appreciate your situation as I am the worst person at hiding my feelings ever, and always disappoint myself with my inability to hold something in even if DP is stressed, BUT I really think you've GOT to talk to him about how you feel, no excuses, even if it causes a row. He's clearly not going to come asking (BOO!). And your feelings matter as much as his work in the big picture, you've got to stop putting them second place and ending up miserable and stressed as a result. Even if it's just to make him understand how upset it makes you feel to hear about your friend's pregnancy when the issue is so unresolved between you both.

Finally finished a massive piece of work I've been stressed about for ages yesterday, although it's never-ending at the moment, I've got a backlog of missed deadlines to wade through, and then I start a really intensive month-long project on Tuesday which is doubtless going to stress me out as it's quite high stakes! BUT I've been organising our bank hol plans, we're going Glamping in wales for the long weekend as it's also the anniversary of when we met, for some well-needed chill out time.

(Bebe I'll be passing near you, it will be very hard to resist the temptation to come and shake your DH)

Love that pic of the swaddlepod, Nannyl, the baby looks like they're in a little cocoon! Awww.
