sometimes we kind of forget and then we're out or something, then it's the weekend then it's suddenly a week since their last bath. is that bad?

I dont know how people manage with upstairs bathrooms. In the UK, our bathroom opens off the kitchen (ex council house), which is just perfect for bathing them whilst cooking supper.

actually, I must admit I was joking earlier, when I am around they get a bath most days (except during our bathroomless period). But they also have a proper wash every time they go to the loo, so I am more concerned about dirty little feet on clean sheets in bed.

Ah, that's it. I won't give them a bath before dinner as then I just get stressed when they are eating (although they're old enough that they aren't really mucky at dinner now). We spend quite a long time sitting up at the table eating and chatting, so it then turns into a big rush to give them a bath etc before bedtime. Maybe i should be a bit more trusting and stick them in straight after school. I still don't think they need it everyday though.

My 3 shower together for 5 mins. Use soap free wash twice a week when washing hair. We live in hot climate though (Oz)

moondog · 24/09/2005 13:30

I put mine in the shower with me (every day-couldn't live without a daily shower)or put them in the shower together (4 and 1)
Shower tray is massive so they happily mess about for 20 mins whilst I do stuff (need to being without dh most of the time.)

I love the fact that in our flat in Turkey I can be on MN and keeping an eye on them in the shower down the hall lol.

It's part of our countdown to bedtime routine to plonk our two in the bath or shower after dinner every day. They probably don't need to be bathed as often but I find it helps them unwind and get into the end-of-day frame of mind.

I'm with you hat, that has happened to me before but my dd2 is getting rather grubby as is starting finger food at tea so has a bath almost every night

mammamic · 24/09/2005 18:00

Wow!! Amazed at all the daily bathing. Understandable if climate dictates, otherwise I'd personally feel irresponsible. All that water, energy and chemicals down the drain. Our skin isn't designed for daily bathing. we have good bacteria and other stuff living on our skin and daily bathing hinders their functioning. Also, girls are more prone to yeast infections and similar with too much bathing - it strips away the friendly flora and again, healthy bacteria, that protect us naturally.

My 16m gets once or twice a week. In summer - just before leaving the paddling pool, add whatever you use for a quick bath. If we're showering, she may join us but it's at her request.

I have a 5,3 and 18 month old (oldest boy, then 2 girls) they have a bath every night unless too tired or/and we are late back from somewhere. My kids love their bath and its part of the routine for bedtime.I find they settle so much better when they've had one.I wash hair about twice a week.

MrsMiggins · 24/09/2005 20:08

I bath mine prob 3/4 times a week.
Usually Tues/Wed/Thur night after nursery so they dont smell/get rid of paint etc
Sun night too so DH can have a go.

when they had impetigo it was every night using some smelly antiseptic

Seona1973 · 24/09/2005 20:16

Used to be every night before bed but dd (22 months) started getting a bit hyper cos of the bath so now its been switched to mornings, twice a week, Sunday and Wednesday or Thursday. It leaves more time at night for relaxing with stories, etc and dd settles to sleep much easier now. She doesnt get dead mucky and if she's a bit messy, wipes can work wonders!!

This thread is such a relief. My sisters bathe their children every day - oldest one makes them have 2 showers a day and sometimes even an extra one in between - no kidding!! Thought I must just have smelly kids and be a lazy mother. Seems like I am almost normal after all.

starlover · 24/09/2005 20:28

i bath ds every day, but he is only 7months
he gets very grubby, and it is also part of his routine... bath, bottle, bed

stephone · 24/09/2005 20:36

Every day I hate to sent him to school dirty or if we forget it's in the evening and was in between

myturn · 24/09/2005 20:37

Wait until they get to 10 - you won't be able to get them in the shower for love nor money.

stephone · 24/09/2005 20:42

I had that problem only this morning I chucked him
nicely though.

stephone · 26/09/2005 20:51
