sometimes we kind of forget and then we're out or something, then it's the weekend then it's suddenly a week since their last bath. is that bad?

it used to be every day when they were in nappies - now it's every other day - they are 6 and 4

MrsSpoon · 22/09/2005 21:41

Hatstand, when I just had DS1 it was every morning without fail, felt that if he wasn't bathed everyone would notice. Now I have DS1, 6 and DS2, 3 I try for two or three times a week (we don't have a bath in this house at the moment, just a shower so it's not the same enjoyable experience for them anyway) but yes it can be a week at times.

Although in my defence, particularly in the summer when they were playing in the dirt all day in the garden it could be twice a day if need be.

charliecat · 22/09/2005 21:43

Used to be everynight, now its every 2nd night with nit check afterwards. They are 4 and 7.

BadHair · 22/09/2005 21:45

Most nights as it's part of bedtime routine, but if they're tired or if I really can't be bothered then they can skip a night or 2.
Dses are 4 and 2 and they can go 4 or 5 days without ponging too badly.

expatinscotland · 22/09/2005 21:45

Every night. She is 2.3. She does not go to nursery yet, but I have already got her used to using the nit comb as she has long hair.

hatstand · 22/09/2005 21:57

agree about the summer - they're like little urchins - covered in a dlieghtful sticky layer of suncream and muck. But - on the other hand, there's nothing like a bit of fairy liquid in the paddling pool...

Every night, its part of their bedtime routine. Can't imagine not doing unless they are ill and even then they get washed . I would feel they were smelly even though they weren't if we didn't bathe them every night! They love it anyway and they're 8 and 5 btw.

MrsSpoon · 22/09/2005 22:23

Never thought of that Hatstand, great tip for next summer!

MrsSpoon · 22/09/2005 22:23

In fact I dare you to send that into MN as a suggestion for tip of the day, brilliant.

Pagan · 22/09/2005 22:26

Every night unless we're on holiday or late or something. Seems daft when I think about it. I only got a bath once a week when I was little and even then it was in the big sink in the kitchen. Don't remember us being stoned in public for stinking . I just remembered that I didn't even wash myself today after being so rudely awakened by a fridge delivery at the crack of dawn

colditz · 22/09/2005 22:28

Every night, because he is always filthy. Always.

Unless I am knackered, then I give him a quick wipe with a flannel.

i only do it every night because he enjoys it so much though. I'd be happy to settle for twice a week if he wasn't so grubby.

handlemecarefully · 22/09/2005 22:32

Once maybe twice per week

I would do it more frequently but ds (18 months) hates it...his big sister (3 yrs) is fine with the bath though.

Luckily they don't seem to niff....

We're generally very clean - really we are! (Dh and I shower every day!...sometimes twice)

Aero · 22/09/2005 22:34

oh yes hatstand - we've been known to do that too and ds1 has even washed his hair in there with shampoo - anything rather than get in the bath! lol

Miaou · 22/09/2005 22:40

Erm...when I notice that their hair needs washing - about once or twice a week. dd1 needs her hair washing at least twice a week now though, it gets really greasy.

I have to shoehorn her in to the bath (or shower)...then shoehorn her out...

handlemecarefully · 22/09/2005 22:42

Yes - must bath mine tomorrow. Was cuddling ds tonight and nuzzled him to take a deep breath of baby smell (well, he's loosing that anyway at 18 months) and must say his hair was slightly pungent....

cuddlymum · 22/09/2005 23:09

My older 3 every other night - I was told it is not good for their skin if they have one every day - drys it apparently, they don't really get too grubby. My one year old should by the mess he gets into have one every day. I tend to give him a good wash.

Nemo1977 · 22/09/2005 23:18

ds[23mths] has bath or shower every other day although sometimes needs one everyday if its a grubby week..lol

helsy · 22/09/2005 23:22

Twice a week. I don't THINK they smell.....

janeybops · 23/09/2005 00:00

most nights

marthamoo · 23/09/2005 00:01

Every night. It's part of the bedtime routine.

bobbybob · 23/09/2005 01:00

Twice a day - but that's for medical reasons.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/09/2005 01:06

Bath boy DS's at the same time, sunday, Tuesday, Thursday nights

moozoboozo · 23/09/2005 01:13

Every night, partly becuse it's part of DS's routine, and partly becuse his hair always gets caked in crap.

moozoboozo · 23/09/2005 01:14

And my Mum used to bath me once a week when I was little. I loved baths though, and one night I went and rolled in some mud purposely so she'd have to put me in the bath.

myturn · 23/09/2005 01:19

The 4 and 5 year old dds, 2 to 3 times a week.
12yo dd - showers every day.
10yo dd - would never shower or bath or brush her hair ever if she had her way. Is physically escorted to the bathroom at least once a week.
