any news on dh Franca? Sput good luck travelling. My sister is meant to be driving from Kent to the NW today, I am just relieved to not be there to deal with my Mum looking at the clock and road outside every 5 mins while behaving with forced jolliness in that "I'm not worried" very British way. Instead I am going to be making mince pies, apple pies and sausage rolls for the freezer Smile.
Snowed in Rome yesterday Shock. With thunder at the same time which was odd!
EC hope you make some headway with getting some appointments for ds. Re antipasti I am a big prosciutto and olive person as well (due to laziness). Crostini? Fried veg in batter? Crudites and dips?
What's your best pasta with fish recipe ladies? I do pasta with salmon every year for the Christmas Eve cenone.

Dh has spent the night at our friends' in London and has booked himself on a flight to Grenoble Shock this afternoon. Otherwise the first place available is on Monday!
And we are hosting a christmas dinner tonight with our friends and dc (each couple brings something to eat, we do a tombola etc... aiuto!!!)
Apparently it was chaos, as many flights had already been cancelled since Thurs and there were no pilots etc (Hmm). Boh!

Gio, I hope your sister's journey goes smoothly (I love the description of your mother btw Smile).
Sput let us know how it goes!

I love pasta al salmone! I love salmon in any form.
I also make pasta with swordfish, pomodorini, capers and scalogno.

BananaGio · 18/12/2010 09:55

mmm sounds nice Franca. How do you do it? Oh I hope dh gets back in time for the meal

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 10:17

Ok, gently fry the chopped scalogno (can't remember the english name) in olive oil, add the pomodorini. When the sugo seems ready add the swordfish (cook it poco, mi raccomando!), capers and fresh mint, if you fancy it.

Not sure he'll make it, if everything goes as it should he should arrive at 22.30 with the train Sad. Uffa, I'm a bit worried.

Rosa · 18/12/2010 12:53

Fingers crossed Franca - DD had 2 bouts of nasty poo this am - after it seemed she was getting better. Its the saggio for gym oggi pm so fingers crossed it is only about 5 mins so might risk it that is as long as she doesn't do any more - plus she has no febbre and has been bouncing round all morning....
I would also be making mincepies but Bloody British Corner shop hasn't sent my delivery yet. They have had the order for a week won't be using them again in a hurry. WOuld cancel the lot but dd1 did the order with me and picked some of her favourite things at Grandmas......will give it until MOnday but orders dispatcahed after 16 /12 can't guarantee they can make it......Arrggghhh Amazon have done marvels an order placed on Mon arrived yesterday !!!

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 12:56

Oh dear, I hope she can make it to the saggio this afternoon rosa!

Amazon is amazing.

Sputnik · 18/12/2010 14:17

Well our flight was cancelled, I'm actually sort of relieved as I was worried about us or my Dad getting stuck. So rebooked for Monday, fingers crossed! Hope your DH makes it Franca, sounds like that film "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" or whatever it was called.
Very wierd weather here yesterday, freezing and snow all day, then it was about 7 degrees by the time we went to bed.
So having had our flight cancelled we did what any sensible people would and went to Ikea, as they're doing the carta regalo with 10% added. We got a load to spend when we get back as we have to buy a load of stuff. Anyway, managed to get a cuple of matresses in the angolo occasioni, so happy!
We are renting our old house out for new year's eve to the son of our friend and his mates, so have to buy bedding and stuff, as well as some bunk beds for the DC's room. Hopefully we won't regret it. All the breakables are being hidden away!

Rosa · 18/12/2010 14:20

Sput sounds like us last year apart from the Ikea bit I have a voucher for Ikea to use by 24/12 can't see that happening.... Franca London doesn't look good at all right now fingers crossed....... DD rice still in am going to wake her soon.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 14:28

Sputnik, sorry your flight has been cancelled, but Grin at you going to IKEA, you are a real "professionista" Grin

Dh's flight has taken off from Stansted 1 hr ago, now I'm a nervous wreck.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 15:38

Dh's just landed in Grenoble... now he has to make his way from there... Hmm Grin...

Sputnik · 18/12/2010 16:25

Glad to hear he's on his way :)
Ikea is only 20 minutes away from here, so no big deal, and we are talking about a sconto of 10% here, plus surprise 40% scontati matresses, not to be sniffed at!

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 16:32

Yes, but IKEA on the saturday before Christmas... it requires nerves of steel Grin. Well done woman!

Sputnik · 18/12/2010 16:38

Actually it wasn't that bad, we went early and I think most people have done their Ikea xmas shop and are mobbing the centri commerciali now.
There was a bad moment though, after we'd paid DH disappeared to the toilet, DD started winding DS up and he got cross and ended up pulling someone's bag off the checkout. It was full of those glass storage jars. We offered to pay for them but Ikea replaced them free :)

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 16:41

God I love IKEA Grin!

Rosa · 18/12/2010 18:57

Franca came on just to see how your dh was - so glad he made it out as heathrow and Gatwick were closed. We made it to the gym thing it was fun and I even danced with her infornt of everybody !!!!
Came home and minirosa has a febbre of 38.5 she finished antibiotics on tues! I am still hoping she doesn't get this stomach thing as on top of thie coldy thing she has got .... So many people have been through this stomach flu genitori as well so at the mo I am counting myself lucky.
Ikea - nice people !

Sputnik · 18/12/2010 20:47

Oh poor Minirosa, most probably its the stomach thing for her now, brace yourselves for a fun night.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2010 22:42

Oh no, not febbre again for minirosa Sad. Let us know how it develops.
Dh arrived 10 minutes ago Smile

Sputnik · 18/12/2010 23:01

Oh nice :)
Did he arrive with an obnoxious salesman type guy, or was he alone?

Rosa · 19/12/2010 13:56

Great stuff Franca hope the evening went well.Febbre here turned into nasty cold and so I am at home with her and dh is off with the cugini having a nice pranzo. So thats 2 strikes this week for me missing out so whats next ???????
Keeping minirosa at home now her school party is Tues pm so she will go to that and then will see but her defences are obviously down so xmas hols probably a good thing to try and build them up again.
SChools finish so late here poor kids can't even have some fun for the build up to Xmas .
Have doen some wrapping up whilst alone and now I would like to snooze on the sofa but minirosa will wake up as soon as I sit down!

Francagoestohollywood · 19/12/2010 14:32

Grin Sputnik! Sadly not... Gosh I love Steve Martin!

Oh no Rosa, you (both you and minirosa) poor things stuck at home Sad. I hope she gets better asap and she can go to her recita.
I agree that hols are a good time to get rest and boost defences (even though I tend to get ill over Christmas!)
Dh has brought me Heat, Vogue UK, Living etc and the Guardian. Hurrah!!!

Rosa · 20/12/2010 10:49

BananaGio · 20/12/2010 13:49

oh no Rosa poor minirosa. how is she now?? Fingers crossed for you Sput.
DS just done his recita Smile. Was lovely and he was very into it this time, last recitia in the summer he just seemed overwhelmed with everything

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 20/12/2010 14:00

He is growing Smile. Did you cry Gio?

minervaitalica · 20/12/2010 14:18

Poor miniRosa (and Rosa!). I hope she is better now (and I am hoping that the bug does not reach all the way east..).

Anyway, had recita as well here... Basically DD started crying at the very beginning and did not stop until the teacher picked her up... I have never seen a more miserable carol singer! Not sure what happened there - she loves singing etc but not today. I do not know why but I feel really bad fo rher poor thing!
