I think that here in Italy logopedisti also work with dyslexia. Not 100% sure though!

Rosa · 16/12/2010 11:02

Non contenti di antibiotici dd has also got the yummy stomach virus that is going round she threw up from 23.23 to 0.5.30 at irregular times. DH spent the night on the sofa with her and every bleuggh we were both up changing bowls etc . She seems fine now but loads of her school are off with it . Pls not miniorsa as she can't aim as well as dd!!! As it is I have done 3 loads of washing ..it will probably freeze on the line .

Francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2010 11:12

Oh no Rosa! Stomach bug is doing the rounds here too... I'm bracing myself.

And I have very busy days ahead of me. Plus, dh is in the UK and he should come back tomorrow, but they are expecting snow... Hmm

minervaitalica · 16/12/2010 13:11

No, not the stomach bugs!!!! Just sent DD back to school after her cold... Apparently there were 3 children in her class yesterday, and so they had to postpone the Xmas recital thingy to Monday.

According to the pediatra she also had otite, but I am not sure I believe that as she never cried! I thought otite was quite painful, but DD was just feverish, unwell, grumpy but did not seem in pain.

Rosa · 16/12/2010 14:44

This one is short but violent- Lots of vomit every 30 mins - some kids more- Don't give water or anything just get them to swill mouths out . Then once its over max 10 hrs then start to hydrate . People who gave crackers and water between bouts of vomit went on longer ..... dd is delicate but sipping on tea and just eating 2 oswego now !
If could be a different bug though...SO far nothing out the other end just a few smelly puzzette! I am hoping minirosa doesn't get it but the likelyhood is very high despite the fact that they were in seperate rooms and not in direct contact IYKWIM. Last night after cena they were playing as normal !
Hope DH makes its back. We keep having sonow forecast and it misses us...

Francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2010 17:01

I hope dd is on the mend now rosa.
I've just spent £££ on the present for my parents, now I feel all guilty, but they are such lovely and helpful grandparents they deserve it, no??? (say yes please Grin)

Sputnik · 16/12/2010 17:30

Of course they do! What did you get them?

Hope DD is better Rosa, and you don't get all night tonight with Minirosa doing the same.
And hope your DH gets back ok Franca. I am on tenterhooks wondering if we'll make it to the UK on saturday, it's looking ok at the moment though. Apparently it'll snow a bit here tomorrow, it is certainly cold enough!

Francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2010 17:45

Oh you are off so soon Sput? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Oh I got them a nice throw for their new sofas.

Sputnik · 16/12/2010 21:00

Sounds nice :)
Yes, looking forward to it!

Fava · 16/12/2010 21:28

Hi Eurocommuter,
I was diagnosed (privately)in prima many moons ago.

I wonder whether the 'Associazione Italiana Dislessia might be of help.

www.aiditalia.org/

Alternatively try googling 'centro dislessia' plus name of your town/city

eurocommuter · 16/12/2010 22:24

Hope dd is better Rosa. Apparently there is snow at home now and the schools are closed. Haven't heard about stomach bug in aour area yet. But I'm sure it will arrive. We are expecting snow in london. It is snowing now but not sticking. Fingers crossed it it doesn't get worse. I want to get home.
Thanks Fava, I will look into it. The school only suggested the pediatra. We go there tomorrow, when I arrive.

Fava · 16/12/2010 23:27

Hi again eurocommuter,
something else just occured to me.

A good optician would also have an 'ortoptista'( a sort of physiotherapist for eyes), they are generally quite clued up on the practical visual side of dyslexia.
Often children with or suspected dyslexia have poor tracking and specifically designed eyes exercises can work wonders.

eurocommuter · 17/12/2010 07:00

Thanks again Fava. It's really nice to find someone who knows the subject. Does he need to be refered to an ortopista by pediatra or do we just find one ourselves?

eurocommuter · 17/12/2010 07:49

Does anyone have any good antipasti ideas for a dinner party?

Fava · 17/12/2010 09:52

In the UK you would need a referral to see an orthoptist (they're like gold dust), via GP and a letter from the optician would speed things up. However, you can see a behavioural optometrist privately.

In Italy I would imagine you walk into the opticians and just ask. Good opticians would have both an 'ortoptista' and an 'optometrista comportamentale'. Just ask for their 'prassi'. Of course via an optician these specialists are private, but it's worth asking how is an ASL referral pursued.

I'm not sure how much a pediatra would know about dyslexia (in the UK zilch) but they might know how to refer to an educational psycologist who would assess for dyslexia and the pediatra should know the ASL referral route. I would imagine the paediatrician would assess for dyspraxia which often accompanies dyslexia ( a terapista occupazionale would deal with this). I would hope the pediatra would also enquire about any auditory problems as Auditory processing disorder (APD)can accompany dyslexia (the best specialist for this would be un pediatra neuro audiologo).

I hope am not alarming you. I'm just covering all bases. Ime the medical profession in Italy either acts as if on an extended siesta or it's all over you like a rash 'e ti girano dentro fuori come un pedalino';)

With a little luck you'll only need a logopedista (Speech and Language over here) to establish an action plan and/or a few minute intervention support. :)

Rosa · 17/12/2010 12:36

DO you want warm or cold ones ? More with a spritz or prosecco
I taught my SIL to make curry puffs she now does them all the time after ( ma non mi sembra caso) I was fed up of Mozzarellini fritte and shop bought olive ascolane that split when she cooked them.....
My starters are boring- salmon pate, gamberi in varie modi- hot cold , spicy on skewers, raw stuff and dips.and then cold meats in all the interesting wasy you can do them !

Francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2010 14:29

Fava, I spent the first 5 yrs of my life seeing an ortottista at least twice a week Grin. Not for dyslexia, but because I had (and still have) strabismo, and needed to do all sorts of "exercises" with my eyes to prepare for the operation.
A good pediatra should be able to give you the names of a good logopedista, ortottista, etc.
If you were in Milan I could give you a hand, as the children of some friends of mine have been diagnosed with dyslexia and I could get all the names/places etc.
My ortottista is still working here in Milan.

Antipasti... I make an excellent sformato di porri from a recipe of Allan Bay, otherwise I just invest in good salame, good olive etc. My mother makes a great insalata russa, but I can't. How about peperoni alla piemontese? Roasted peppers, peeled and layered with olive oil, garlic, anchovies and capers.

Francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2010 14:30

Euro have you been able to come back? I have no news of dh, who was on a train to heathrow hrs ago Hmm

Rosa · 17/12/2010 16:11

Hope you all make it in / out ok and SPut Happy Christmas ( everyone else will do auguri later on)

Rosa · 17/12/2010 16:12

Fingers crossed he makes it Franca

Francagoestohollywood · 17/12/2010 19:28

Dh's flight has been cancelled. I'nm trying to rebook him. It's £££. It's chaos at heathrow apparently. Feck!

Sputnik · 17/12/2010 22:51

Hope your DH gets back soon Franca.
I am bricking it, this afternoon my parents hadn't had much snow, but the forcast is changing every 5 minutes, aargh. They live off the main road so it's easy for them to get snowed in.
Oh well, we wil set off tomorrow morning and hope for the best.
I may be gone some time.....
