Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

UniS, why are you shouting? Shock Tsk.

:o

Jacksmania · 16/11/2011 00:16

Have some more Wine.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/11/2011 00:17

Thumbwitch · 16/11/2011 06:52

Oo those twiglet ads took me back - can't believe they're as old as all that though! Shock

Amber, hope you're feeling ok now after your hectic day at two hospitals, and that your DH is ok too.

Tis raining here today - good! And MrThumb took me out for lunch at the company's expense (authorised, he'd done a good job of something). It was delicious, and I discovered a new taste sensation - I had braised salmon for my main course, and the salad accompanying it was meant to be rocket, watermelon and macadamias (loathsome things) so I asked for no macadamias and the waitress said did I want something else instead - I suggested olives. Well! An olive followed by a cube of watermelon was delish! not sure if the dressing made a difference, it was a very light balsamic vinegar based one, but oh my. I shall be trying it out myself now to see if it's as good as at the restaurant.

mistlethrush · 16/11/2011 08:35

I like olives - but its so difficult to find nice ones in restaurants: so often they make do with cheap nasty ones. I'm presuming that there's a part of Australia that's good for growing Olives TW? Mc also likes olives and has done ever since he was tiny - we had to wolf any olives we got with a meal just so that he couldn't eat them all because I didn't want him eating that much salt.

Another grey day here.

Thumbwitch · 16/11/2011 08:45

MT - yep, miniThumb adores olives but he is restricted on how many he can have (because of the salt). The Hunter Valley has lots of olive groves as well as vineyards, so yes, there are a lot of good olives out here. The ones on my salad today were as good as any I've had anywhere, so not the cheap nasty ones, for sure. :)

mistlethrush · 16/11/2011 09:01

There's me doing that sort of thing - and making 'family' meals with low salt stock etc - and there's MiL thinking it perfectly reasonable to give him a packet of crisps as an 'acceptable' snack because hes 'not putting salt on anything else he eats today' !!!! Last time she pulled the stunt I read off the back of the packet and told mc how much of a % of an adult's salt allowance was in the packet - and that he needed to remember the salt in all the other things he was eating that was hidden. Since then she's not been as bad - he does get them but shares a bag (which is at least halving the problem) - I don't know if she knows that mc is quite as unable to lie - or even keep a secret as he is because she doesn't buy them if I'm around, but he's told me that they've shared them when she's had him on his own Grin

Thumbwitch · 16/11/2011 09:10

MIL fed miniThumb some of her sausageroll today. I'm guessing she "forgot" that pastry contains wheatflour Hmm and miniThumb has been farting terribly all evening, and been to the loo for no. 2s twice. He doesn't seem to be in pain (good) but I'm still glad I generally keep him away from wheat, considering. Just wish other people would "remember" that too.

mistlethrush · 16/11/2011 09:15

I can do better than that lol....

MiL is 'allergic' to cows milk products. Goes to great trouble to avoid (eg reading every ingredient in something bought) even though she knows I'm lactose intolerant so am fairly careful about added milk powder in things.

Then we go out for a pizza - and rather than ordering the one with goats cheese, or indeed asking for goats cheese instead of normal cheese on one, she has the one with normal cheese. Hmm

UniS · 16/11/2011 09:49

Um, MT - does your MiL have less or indeed no problems with cooked cheese, but suffers with uncooked? that seems to be a situation some people find themselves in, others have problems with regular cheese but are Ok with veggie cheese.

My MiL is all for the Atkins diet ( or what ever fad shes picked up now) but fails to see cake as a problem.

My Ma on teh other hand can spot a red pepper a mile away, except when she doesn't coz they were a hidden ingredient and then she's up all night being ill.

Sorry about shouting, and sorry if the twiglets sacred anybody... I was on a twiglet roll last night. Ended up watching a BBC program about 4 kids with ASD/ ADHA Dxs going on a polar expedition with their school. The inside of a glacier is strange and beautiful place.

Thumbwitch · 16/11/2011 09:54

Whoo to the inside of a glacier - I've been on top of a glacier, the one at Chamonix - just stepped on the edge, you know, nothing silly. Glaciers are scary things...

MT - your MIL sounds a bit odd there - but perhaps she had just decided to resign herself to the aftermath of the pizza. I know when I started changing my diet, I used to end up going to Pizza Express with groups of friends and resigning myself to the inevitable pain of eating pizza dough - but then later I got fed up with the pain so stopped, or had salad instead. Garlic bread is desperately hard to resist though!

UniS - your poor ma - is it only the red capsicum she has problems with?

amberlight · 16/11/2011 10:27

Not sure how I am. Off to hospital for tattooing and measuring for radiotherapy (which has been delayed twice already). I'll put the Brew on for those in need, and book Mellors for a quick massage later, if that's ok?

mistlethrush · 16/11/2011 10:31

I hope that they can give you a clear picture of what's going to happen when Amber.

TW - its the fact that she could have chosen an alternative that does conform to the strict rules that she 'normally' runs by that makes me go Hmm. Being allergic to chocolate, I know all about the temptations - but I know that the consequences are just not worth suffering.

We do have a friend who is allergic to cows milk products - they bounce rapidly. He, however, has found that he can have something as close as buffalo cheese/milk without problems - he normally has goats milk. Needless to say, he doesn't go out and order a normal pizza. Not that he could eat the wheat in it anyway.....

I'm lactose intollerant - and DH has, on occasions, pointed out that I've inadvertently eaten something with milk in because I'm coughing - not that I would have necessarily noticed it by then.

UniS · 16/11/2011 20:42

Ah, is that your brother? I was wondering how (apart from your innate grooviness, obviously) you came across that. I always enjoy your picks - .

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/11/2011 21:56

Gentleman, even.

mistlethrush · 16/11/2011 23:28

Was ON the pitch at Elland road this evening....

UniS · 16/11/2011 23:46

WOW, were you playing?

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 16/11/2011 23:48

Or running up and down the line with a little black flag?

UniS · 16/11/2011 23:52

Or were you a pitch invasion?

In case anyone needs a giggle.
Maud and UniS have already come to point and laugh at me :o

oxeye · 17/11/2011 01:02

enjoyed your thread JM, really made me laugh. I once got in terrible terrible trouble aged about 16 when vicar had come for tea and said in all seriousness "you do know, Oxeye, that Jesus is your Prince" and I said "well, I'm not really sure, but I do know that Elvis is King" cue total hysterical laughter me and my friend....it still makes me guffaw but sort of with skin crawling horror at the audacity ....

Jacksmania · 17/11/2011 01:59

Oh oxeye that just made me roar out loud :o

You should post that :o
