Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

Who's for chocolate birthday cake with sugar train cars on top?

amberlight · 28/10/2011 15:45

Me! Me!

CMOTdibbler · 28/10/2011 15:46

Happy Birthday TS.

Am glad the choc box of requirement refills - I could really do with it. Whoda thunk that pulling my little suitcase could put good arms tennis elbow completely to pot. Agony today as is bad arm. And my elbow scar seems to be breaking down. Gah.

amberlight · 28/10/2011 15:53

CMOT, you need Mellors, fast. Lie down on that couch. No, not that one! Oh well, it's the same choc birthday cake but a different shape now...

CMOTdibbler · 28/10/2011 18:52

Hmm, Mellors seems to have run away. Very fast.

Tiddler is currently attired as a bat. DH is off playing his game in Cornwall this weekend, so a peacefull evening for me. Of course me, full control of iplayer and the trick or treat pile of choc may be a bad thing Grin

purpleknittingmum · 28/10/2011 19:17

Evening all!

Can anyone help me decide on something (too scared to start a thread!) I have a 'big' birthday coming up and am thinking of getting a kindle but just not sure if it is going to be worth it. I do read, but not a lot. My main worry is that I wouldn't use it a great deal and it would feel like a waste

Thanks!

Well I took the half term off work and have got loads of knitting and crochet done, may bake a cake tomorrow if I get round to it!

UniS · 28/10/2011 19:24

coffee cream for me please, then a salted fudge in dark choc.... Frankly I shouldn;t be left alone with a box of chocs, its far too dangerous.

Any Trick or treater coming to our door before Monday is going to get very short shrift ( and maybe laughed at) . Boy is still adamant he wishes to dress as a ghost in white leggings, white shirt and white (blank face) mask. I need to pin some floaty white rags to the shirt I think to make it a bit more ghostly.

PKM - well, I love, love, love my Kindle, and dh thought he'd hate them, but borrowed mine one day and then ordered his own. We both like to read though.

TBF, we get about two trick or treaters, so ds wanted to buy things so he could give out sweets at the stables in a reverse trick or treat thing. His girlfriend is coming round tomorrow to carve pumpkins and do craft things

Jacksmania · 28/10/2011 19:56

I have a Sony eBook reader (not a Kindle) and I love love LOVE it. I do read a LOT though. The idea that I have around 300 books on it just makes me Grin with happiness. And I love the backlight feature, I can read in bed without keeping DH up.

CMOT, that's a fetching chocolate pattern on your... you know :o
I wish I could come and treat your tennis elbow for you :(

purpleknittingmum · 28/10/2011 20:00

I think I have decided that I will get one, but I often don't get a chance to read. Can't read on buses/cars as I get travel sickness. I know my OH will love it, but he might get one that isn't Amazon Kindle so he can use them at the library (actually need to check if our local library does this!) I tend to read if I go to bed before 11pm and sometimes at work when I am on breaks

We don't really get trick or treaters, we are in a flat with a buzzer entry so last year was our first Hallowe'en here and we just didn't answer the buzzer!

amberlight · 28/10/2011 20:07

Ah, Mellors wasn't running away! He was fetching new supplies of champagne and twiglets! How thoughtful!

Kindle - I'm waiting for the colour one to come out. Can't be doing with books that are only available in black and white.

beanandspud · 28/10/2011 21:10

Ooooh, chocolates... Is there a coconut one please... Or a nutty caramel one?

PKM - I don't have a kindle but have the app on my iPad (as well as iBooks) and use it a lot. It's just really handy having lots of books for travelling with work and holidays (pre-DS I used to take 14 books away for a fortnight's holiday). I have to admit that I still prefer a 'proper' book for reading in bed though.

CMOT - hope the elbow gets better soon - that sounds very painful.

Small Bean is dressing as a pirate for a friend's Halloween party (which is a bit of a breakthrough as up 'til now he has insisted on only dressing up as himself!). I'm not keen on the whole Trick or Treat thing though. We tend to be very unsociable, turn the lights off at the front and sit in the back room hoping no one rings on the door. ::grumpy emoticon::

Very excited as DH and I are picking up our new bikes tomorrow (early Christmas present). I haven't had a bike for about 20 years!!! We have promised to take Small Bean out for a bike ride on Sunday for a winter 'soup and sandwich' picnic.

Thzumbazombiewitch · 29/10/2011 14:56

I am a technodinosaur and have none of these fancy shmancy gizmos. I like my books in paper - whenever I have to read a lot of stuff on a screen I get a headache so if I'm doing researchy stuff or editing, I end up printing it out anyway so I can read it better. Therefore I don't much fancy the Kindle-esque thingies (and don't have any form of phone thingy that requires an "app" - my phone is a brick phone [hgrin]).

CMOTD - so sorry to hear about your elbows! When you say the scar is breaking down, does that mean the wound is reopening? that's not good if so. If not open, can you use bio-oil on it? Tennis elbow might be coming from your upper arm muscles - go get a sports massage done on it.

bean - bikes sound good!

Chocolates - I'll have a turkish delight please, rather fond of those.

Hallowe'en - we don't do much here, no trick or treating for miniThumb (he's too small afaiac and it's not really done out here - our road is rubbish for it as well). I have the pumpkin for carving though - that will be done tomorrow/Monday. But I will be out Monday evening anyway, as it's our final rehearsal for The Messiah.
When miniThumb is bigger, maybe 6 or so, then we will have Hallowe'en parties here. I loved those as a child - we never did trick-or-treat back then either.

purpleknittingmum · 29/10/2011 15:04

Now a tablet has been thrown in the mix as some of them are quite cheap!! And you can get e-reader things on them. I just don't know!! OH is starting to despair at me and my dithering! We are quite certain we will get a tablet for our daughter, so that at least is decided!

UniS · 29/10/2011 18:55

Luddite here, I like reading books from books. My phone is a phone, not a camera or a book or an internet accessing device.

Pass the box of chocs would you, I'd rather like another of those salted fudges. should compliment the spicy fajitas we had for tea.

Proud mum moment - boy has just read a blue band book. he didn't know it was blue till he had finished. Just one band up from his regular school books.

Moan Discussion started in the other space.

amberlight · 29/10/2011 22:41

alas,
The other space is no longer available to me as it will no longer let me in.

Scout19075 · 29/10/2011 22:43

I'm still working on that, amber!

amberlight · 29/10/2011 22:45

Ach do not worry - people know how to contact me on here/email/fb/text/smoke signals. It's not a worry if fb won't co-operate.

Scout19075 · 29/10/2011 22:56

Sometimes I hate FB.

Jacksmania · 30/10/2011 03:55

Saw your post in the other space, Scout. I don't want to judge anyone since I don't want anyone judging me so I'm just going to wonder out loud, just 'cause, you know, these things occur to me sometimes... apropos of nothing at all... why the blimmin' heck don't some people just get snipped?
As they say on the rest of MN... what the actual... well, bleep.
(trying to clean up language).

FearfulYank · 30/10/2011 04:06

Sorry, Scout.
