Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Was only going to the GP to get a blood test since I've been so unwell they need to check all of my stuff is working. Poorly boy started yesterday/last evening. Worse today. Fairly sure it's just another cold but he's got a temp with this one and actually looks sad and sorry for himself (most of his other colds have bothered me more than him). No park for swings and kicking around his new ball (the other one went MIA at Guides). Sad

I know babies/tots average a cold a month and it's actually very good for them, but it's frustrating the amount of tissues and soap we go through! Oh, and sheet changes cuz I pick him up and his bed is covered in all sorts. [blurgh]

How do people cope with more than one when one is sick?

MaryBS · 11/04/2011 12:02

How do people cope? By doing only the essentials and being kind to each other - watch TV together, cuddle up. Its worse at night, but if there are 2 of you, take it in turns. I remember one night, every hour one of them would be ill, and that was horrendous!

Hope baby scout feels better soon, and don't beat yourself up Tea, about Milk. Its happened to us too, and its natural to feel bad. I tell you what though, it does make you careful next time!

Hope wriggle is OK too...

thumbwitch · 11/04/2011 14:38

Serpent - I think it would be useful to go to the GP to get a blood test to see whether she is still fighting off an infection, or whether her white blood cell count is a bit on the low side, showing that she has been fighting off infections and is a bit vulnerable. They can also look at her white blood cells under the microscope to see if there is any evidence of e.g. glandular fever.

Also - don't go overboard on the suncream. Low vitamin D status is rife in the UK as well as Australia thanks to over-caution in the sun - we get far more vitamin D from making it ourselves in 20 minutes sun than we do in our diet (takes longer than 20 minutes if you have darker skin; the darker your skin is, the longer it takes). As well as being necessary for bone-building and calcium absorption, it's very important in the function of the immune system.

Bummer about the GP appt, scout - bloody receptionist not being clear!

MiniT was spectacularly sick in the bathroom this evening. MrT was, as usual, even more spectacularly useless in terms of helping - apparently he "couldn't find" any cloths to clean up (obviously didn't look under the kitchen sink where they all are Hmm) and has no knowledge of where to find a clean pair of pyjamas and in fact did fuck all apart from stand there for 5 minutes wiping miniT's nose. Oh and volunteering to throw the bathroom mats into the back yard overnight. Not hose them down, OH no, it's dark you know! So, after about 5 mins, he fucked off back to bed, leaving me with a waily child and a sick-covered floor. To add insult to injury, the cheapskate bloke MIL got in to tile the bathroom floor carefully managed to make it slope away from the central floor drain to the back wall, so trying to hose the floor down did NOT help. ARGH!!

Finally got it all done after about an hour - miniT in bed sleeping soundly. Poor little soul, only the second time in his life he's thrown up - it scares him so much! :(

Oh thumb, I hope miniThumb feels better soon!

UniS · 11/04/2011 20:29

evening all. boy and DH survived teh night out on teh moor... boy had fun, DH woke at 4am to teh sound of SOMETHING rummaging in the fly sheet. Come day light he found teh stove strewn across teh hill side and his breakfast missing, presumed eaten by a fox. Boys breaky was still there, wedged inside a mug, thankfully all 4 boots were still there and dry...

Can I help any one to a slice of super thin and crispy pizza with an ice cream sundae to follow.

AgentSecrete · 11/04/2011 20:52

Ciao ragazze.

Sorry not been around - have been suffering from the Curse of the Lost Post and too knackered to rewrite when it happens. Have had a few bad nights in a row and so need to haul myself off PDQ tonight.

So sorry to hear about all the sick/in pain mummies and littlies - sounds really horrible for all of you and I sincerely hope you're all feeling better soon.

Hats off to Fine Lad! and what an adventure for boy and DH, UniS!

Went to a rather lovely impropmtu Easter party at a friend's today (in fact, the only one of my mum friends who is mum of an only entiirely by choice) - lots of toys, lots of fun activites in the garden, lots of food and drink, including pimms and pizza. Have gorged on so much food that I can't even manage any virtual offerings, UniS, but thank you kindly anyway!!

Will love you and leave you. G'night all.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 11/04/2011 21:53

How nice, Agent!

Thumb, being sick is very scary - poor MiniThumb. Still scares me. Hmm Mr Thumb does sound like a bit of a dead loss in this case, but no doubt comes into his own in other situations?

Wriggle has just sat bolt upright, howled and cried, coughed until she was sick, and then fallen asleep ... all without waking up. High point of today was tying Bunny to a kite and attempting to get him airborne ... but the wind was too cold fir a weakened Wriggle. She has definitely regressed at least two years ... I always wanted her to have a cuddly 'friend', but she was never that bothered before.

Thumb, I wish I thought GP would actually be bothered to look into anything - maybe I am not being fair to them, though.

Ice cream sundae sounds rather good.

Catitainahatita · 11/04/2011 23:28

Hello all. Sympathies to those ill and on pain.
Amber 10-10-10 should have just been 10-10, but I got confused. It was 10 for technical merit and 10 for artistic impression as in figure skating. It was our in-joke at uni with my housemates about how I used to fall over when drunk. Hence the term ?pavement dive".
UnSerpent: I would also advise going to your GP, even if you think he is next to useless. It does sound like Wriggle is suffering. Can you not see a differnt doctor at your practice? Or is there just the one?

thumbwitch · 11/04/2011 23:44

Yes, like catita says, is there not a different GP you can see if your usual one is so uninterested? Sounds a right PITA to deal with, tbh. Poor little thing - throwing up in your sleep is no fun either! :(

nice party, agent :)

UniS - poor DH, losing his brekkie - did he make boy share? Mr T would have done - he always tries to muscle in on whatever miniT is eating!Shock. They weren't out on Dartmoor were they?
Twasn't the beast, was it? Wink

miniT appears to be mostly better this morning although we have already had 3 incidents of "can't breathe, mummy" and he's onlly been awake half an hour Hmm. Now he wants his 'medsin to feel better' - this is the antibiotics for his residual infection so not likely to help much with the current scenario! He can breathe fine until he starts to think about it...

amberlight · 12/04/2011 09:59

Morning!

::waves at everyone::

::nods in agreement about the need to see a good doc re poorly children::

::grabs cup of tea::

::heads off for next chemistry experiment, cheered a little by yesterday's news that they can add in some new chemical for a year after this lot finishes which will allegedly improve my chances greatly::

thumbwitch · 12/04/2011 12:43

Good luck with the new chemistry experiment, amber - hope it doesn't have any further unwanted effects!

mistlethrush · 12/04/2011 12:52

Gahh! Mine went then too!

'compatibility issue' apparently Hmm

Amber - good news - hope all goes well

Hope all poorly children get better soon whether or not they need to visit the Dr.

Catita - sounds awful - I hope the job comes through and you manage something to get the move sorted.

Won't post anymore, want to get this posted before another compatibility problem comes along

thumbwitch · 12/04/2011 12:58

Oh yes, I keep getting bloody compatibility issues, usually near the end of a long and involved post which is then utterly lost!! Grrrr.

OmShantiJack · 12/04/2011 15:54

Hi all, haven't read back so apologies if I've missed anything.
Busy weekend - lovely though. Got spoiled for my BD (had a lie-in, then brunch, then yoga course in the afternoon, was all great), then yesterday finished and mailed off my f(&O&%^ng taxes. Phew. Now to the office paperwork that's glaring at me from its pile over there in the corner.

How is everyone?

OmShantiJack · 12/04/2011 17:07

I invited some lovely ladies from another thread - let's drag out the drinks cart and nibbles... :)

amberlight · 12/04/2011 17:34

Om, I have the feeling that your taxes have taxed you a bit Grin

Chemistry lesson completed. Not bad at all. At home and allegedly resting, barring the Big Fight with the ginger beer bottle lid that will not come off even when FineLad has given it his best national-rugby-player strength test. Hmm

Ginger beer is therefore Not Available, but tea, cakes and other delights very welcome.

Hello new people who might be lurking! Come on in - the Venetian tea room is lovely! Mellors will be transporting you in his gondola at no charge, we hear...

CMOTdibbler · 12/04/2011 19:19

Mmm, cake Grin

I'm on OmJacks time zone this week - the sun has just come out too - it was disappointingly cold earlier

Hugs to all the poorly ones Sad

UniS · 12/04/2011 21:39

POP

FIIIZZZZZZZZZZ

SPLAT

tops off the ginger beer Amber.

Mellors, can you bring a cloth and a ladder please, I seem to have sprayed ginger beer all over the ceiling.

Scout19075 · 12/04/2011 22:49

Is anyone good at play on words? Can you come up with something fun/catching/play on words like "Animal" and "Zoo" for a Seniors camp theme? I'm so close but so far. I've managed to come up "Camp Makes Us Quackers" (ducks, duck badge, anything crazy). The girls suggestions are a bit Hmm so I want to add a few to pad out the choices.

Oh, and Guides camp is "I'm a Camp Leader Get Me Out of Here!" so I'd really like a cool Seniors theme.

UniS · 12/04/2011 23:22

will think on it scout. night night.

Tee2072 · 13/04/2011 06:57

Hi all.

Off to the dentist today. Yay?

Sorry Scout, I'm horrible at that sort of thing! Good luck.

Om I still need to do my US tax return. Which consists of a large number of zeros and a signature. Total waste of mine and the IRS' time.

Amber...REST!

See y'all later!

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 07:00

Oh crap. Yes, I need to do my form, too. D'oh! They seem to have stopped sending me one so I forget.

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 07:14

amber, I hope you're taking it easy today young lady!

CMOT, very jealous! Feeling sad and sorry and homesick (though realize you're 3000 miles from my home).

Had good appointment with nurse yesterday, even when I explained I probably should have made a doctor's appointment first to get blood test paperwork. She and doctor she spoke to (to make sure she hadn't forgotten any tests to run) said I should call/go back if I continue to feel unwell because clearly something's going on. I seem to be on a rollar coaster of well/unwell in a 24/48 hour period.

And poor TS. He woke up yesterday and his sheet was covered in green/yellow gunk. It was constant yesterday. And by the end of the day everything made him cry. For the first time ever he refused milk before bed (usually he'll have at least half a cup full) and he's still asleep.

MaryBS · 13/04/2011 09:02

Camp Croc? Bit like Camp Rock, but with crocodiles, alligators and all things to do with lizards and snakes and swamps?
