Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

1001 replies

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Helloooo! Are you hating being back then? Missing the wilds of Goa and that? How about Little O - how's he doing?

Maud is a namechanger but I have NO idea what she was when you set off on your trek abroad! Tee is new to you; OmshantiJack is recognisable by the end of her name - can't think who else.

welcome back anyway and have a Brew

AandO, hello!!! I'm still me, definitely. Good to see you again.
What tales of your travels?
Have a sit down and a duvet and a Brew to cheer you up.

Tee2072 · 13/04/2011 18:19

Hi AandO, I'm Tee, we haven't really met (although I think you popped in once previously?). I'm 42 with a son who is 22 months. Nice ta meetcha! (Did I mention I am an American? I live in Belfast)

Scout, I would agree that stinky probably equals bacteria and would get him to GP for some ABs.

Time to go make baby soup give LCT a bath. Be back later!

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 18:47

Yes, will call GP in morning. The only thing he seems bothered by is a tissue. Runs away if he can, fights if he can't. He's been free-flowing from the start so was hoping he wouldn't get a sinus infection (when I get one I don't flow at all, no matter what I do).

Welcome Back AandO!! Good trip? I'm still me. Grin

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 13/04/2011 20:21

AandO, sorry if it doesn't feel wonderful to be back, but hope you will gradually settle in. Not sure if ~I am a name changer or not - not sure if I changed before you left - but anyway, my new name is simply a translation of my old name, after a surprise last summer when a RL friend addressed me by my MN name. Shock

Envy re green smelly exudations from your offspring! GP indicated!

AandO · 13/04/2011 22:01

Nice to meet you Tee! I am also in Ireland. Hey Thumb, Amber, Serpent and Scout . Yep RC (as you always are in my head!) you name changed before I left I think.

Well, I had an amazing time. LittleO loved it. We just relaxed, lazed on the beach, LittleO went to a lovely international kindergarten. We also met some amazing people, people who had children and yet were living their lives in a different way to most people I had previously met. It was quite inspiring. Now I'm back here I feel very dragged down, and like I'm back to living my life for someone else, not me. Same old same old and all that.

But enough about me, how is everyone? I saw on the other network that CMOT's wrist is still a problem! Sorry to hear that. Before I left I had got the impression it would recover. And Amber I hope all is ok with you, you have been mentioning hair and wigs a bit. How is FineLad? Is he all grown up and finished school?

Hello! What a lovely tearoom!

Could I join you ladies please? I bought wine.... WineWineWine

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 22:20

Cool name, beanandspud!

Welcome!

UniS · 13/04/2011 22:25

::Unis helps herself to one of beans Wine ::

Many thanks.

I just watched Toy story 3, no way boy can watch that yet. I did manage to get him through the film "curious George" this afternoon, but it was hard work with lots of cuddles and pop corn, hes VERY affected still by mild peril.in tears and shaking and hiding behind the sofa.

Have one of boys friend coming to play tomorrow. Hopefully boy will have finished breakfast and be awake by teh time they come over at 11ish.... Seems this holiday he is recharging his batteries in his sleep.

beanandspud · 13/04/2011 22:33

Thank you! Feels very decadent to be drinking on a school night but it's been a long week so far. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 22:36

Tell us about your little/s, beans...

beanandspud · 13/04/2011 22:57

Just the one DS who is 3. He's the love of my life but for all sorts of reasons (mostly the fact that I am far too old for another baby) he is/will be an only.

Cheers Wine

beanandspud · 13/04/2011 22:58

Scout What about you?

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 23:52

helllo beanandspud - you clearly have the measure of the place already, you brought plenty of Wine! Grin Grab a chair and tell us more about you. :)

I am in Australia with a 3.4yo DS so I post at odd hours. Like now when most of you will be asleep. :) I am also of the old variety (43) but am still optimistic re. having #2; although slowly losing that optimism.

UniS - TS3 is quite scary. MiniT does like it but not the monkey so we have to watch it with him so he can hide behind me whenever the monkey is in the offing. He actually seems to be getting more timid about certain things, most odd! Confused

Scout, if you're up, I have replied to your PM.

Scout19075 · 14/04/2011 06:39

bean, I have 17 month old ToddlerScout (TS). He is fabulously wonderful, but I'm partial. Due to lots of things TS will most likely be an only. It's taken a bit to get used to it but these ladies are fantastic and I can see all the joy in having one. I'm an American living in the UK (married to English MrScout) so I have funny spelling and ask all sorts of random questions.

Sorry, thumb, I actually went to bed/sleep before 11 last night. Yesterday was the first day in a week I didn't take a nap and I was struggling.

I hear TS chattering -- ugh, too early!

Scout19075 · 14/04/2011 06:56

No tye-dye bedsheet this morning! YAY!!!

Scout19075 · 14/04/2011 07:03

I've only been to one English wedding and I was heavily pregnant then. Is a dress like this Floral print tea dress okay for a second May Bank Holiday Weekend wedding? I don't want to spend loads given my weight loss/yo-yo thing going on but I need something because nothing fits.

thumbwitch · 14/04/2011 07:16

it looks fine, Scout - people wear all sorts of things to weddings here, even jeans and t-shirts so you almost can't go wrong (unless you dress like the bride or in bondage gear) - that dress is lovely.

Have replied to your PM again :)

Tee2072 · 14/04/2011 07:30

Good morning all.

Who wants pancakes?

Welcome beanandspud. I have a son, 22 months, LowerCaseTee or LCT. He will be an only due to my age (42 this past February) and my plethora of health problems. I'm an American living in Belfast married to a Northern Irish boy. Grin

Glad to hear the sheets are better and so is TS, Scout! And that's a lovely dress.

LCT fell out of bed again last night. And tomorrow we start operation 'get LCT to sleep in his own room.' EEEK!

Scout19075 · 14/04/2011 07:33

I'll never dress like a bride again -- I've had my turn, it's our friend's turn now. Grin

How does a boy who's had nothing but cheerios, juice, a bowl of pasta and 1/3 of his usual milk intake since Monday still grow bigger and heavier?!?!

thumb, incoming!

Scout19075 · 14/04/2011 07:37

Oh dear, poor LCT. thunk. TS rolls into his headboard regularly so hopefully when we take off his sides he'll continue to go that way.

TS seems a bit perkier this morning. Oozing seems to have slowed a bit and it's not as colorful. Still calling for a GP appointment, though.

amberlight · 14/04/2011 09:01

Scout, pleased to hear that TS is a bit better. Love the dress!

Hi beanandspud! I'm Amber, I'm older than most people here and to prove it have an 18 yr old ds (only). Quite mad but harmless Grin

AandO yup, I'm fairly fine thanks despite third session of chemotherapy for breast cancer this week. Since it's working very well indeed and they've discovered I can have some novel and hugely expensive drug at the end of this lot and surgery that will double my chances of beating this (if it likes me), I'm happy. Hair gone but wigs lovely Grin and people in my life have been so fantastic. Still working most of the time and carrying on as normal (for 'normal' read 'doing far too much really but I enjoy it and have to be told off regularly!')

Who's for cooked breakfast Venetian style? I think Mellors has put on his extra short pinny, after a night rescuing the NMBs, Bishops and two Bison from the canal after the washing line gave way. I did try to warn the Bison that tightrope walking is a bit difficult with hooves and the washing line really isn't built for 17 people/animals at once, but never mind.

::picks her way through the wet cassocks and Mitres and the smell of damp bison::

DutchOma · 14/04/2011 09:15

Don't think Venetian canals smell all that wholesome either or have I been misinformed?

thumbwitch · 14/04/2011 09:54

DutchOma - they're not so bad in Spring, I believe - it's in the summer/late summer that they really start to pen & ink!Grin

Scout - I think good idea to get GP appt asap - if there is any residual gunk it can take ages to go away completely, so ABs are the way to go to get rid.

Tee - falling out of bed - ouch! poor LCT. no real advice apart from putting pillows/duvet on the floor, sorry.
