Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

1001 replies

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Being forced to finish my chocolate mousse pot. Please, no more. I can't eat any more....!

(Wine, however, is always welcome Wink)

thumbwitch · 09/04/2011 23:09

oh dear Scout - hope that you do as they say and get yourself to a hospital ASAP if it gets any worse. Have more Wine

Glad you found us, JM - it is rather nice here! Have a gelato with a mini-gondolier in chocolate in it.

I am finally getting some time to myself this morning - MrT and miniT are off to a bird show with MIL and I am hoping he will stay out at least until after lunch. Might help to restore equilibrium a touch more. :)

Chocolate mousse hey - I'll have some of that... thanks!

Scout19075 · 10/04/2011 08:53

I want to know what fabulous glitzy presents JM received. [nosey, nosey emoticon]

Tee2072 · 10/04/2011 10:18

::tee crawls into the Priest Hole next to scout::

I hurt in places I have never hurt before. Like my left big toe. Hmm

Scout19075 · 10/04/2011 11:04

What did you do to your toe?

Tee2072 · 10/04/2011 11:10

Nothing. It's just a new fibro pain to add to all my others. ::sigh::

Thanks for the blankets and painkillers. And chocolates!

Scout19075 · 10/04/2011 11:22

That's pooey, Tee. Sad

Pain is no fun.

My legs finally settled down sometime after 1 a.m., despite pain killers and a massage.

We're off to the grocery store today and I'm prepared to ask the pharmacy to be able to buy more than two boxes of drugs (apparently they can use their discretion) otherwise MrScout's prepared to stop at several stores in the area. One box will get me through two days.

TS has been chewing his hands and having a low-level whinge today like no one's business. Looks like more gum-gel and possible new teeth in our future.

amberlight · 10/04/2011 17:29

UnSerp, seen your post on the old thread - eek re Wriggle. Not sure of the answer but have a Wine

Much celebrating here as DS's rugby team have just won the Division 1 Cup!!!!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 10/04/2011 18:06

I thought it had got a bit quiet over there! The fact that the furniture had gone as well as the aspidistras should have been a clue ..... I wanted some wise tea-room advice; will go over to SF and see if they will forward my post. Meanwhile am all hot and sticky - feel very unchic and neeed a gelato.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 10/04/2011 18:09

Any ideas, anyone? For at least the last week, if not longer - fever/cough bug seemed to follow on seemlessly from chicken pox - Wriggle has been quite unlike normal. Obviously coughing, sore throat, slight temperature on occasion, but also falling asleep at 4 or 5 pm, not 9 pm as usual, baby talk and carrying soft toys around everywhere ('Bunny want apple juice'), or even not talking at all, just pointing and whingeing, extra clingy, wants to be carried 24/7, very timid, just wants to be at home all the time. Could she need a tonic? What is a tonic?

Today we went riding with friends. Wriggle grizzled the whole time the pony was moving , friend's little girl fell off and screamed and Wriggle screamed until I threatened to smack her if she didn't stop screaming. This is making us miserable and is not normal for her, (and really really honestly not normal for me - I was just so embarrassed and frustrated because this was supposed to be a treat).

Actually, must try reading back over all the other tea rooms; I seem to remember Thumb recommending lavender oil, mandarin and ?? for excessive timidity. In the bath? On a tissue in her clothes?

And hurrah for Fine Lad!

UniS · 10/04/2011 20:35

Happy birthday JM,
yes please to gelato AND hot choc.

My feet hurt, but as I've had along walk yesterday and this evening its not a great surprise.

UnSerp Oh dear - re wiggle. No idea, unless its post viral ickkyness. Are you able to ramp down her time table and have very slow days with lots of sleep for a week to see if she perks up any?

Tonight I have teh house to my self, Boy and DH have gone on a boys own camping adventure. So left teh house with them and went for a 3 hour walk in a different direction. Thoroughly enjoyed my self and rolled home at dusk. Boy and Dh will roll home tomorrow morning, dirty, tired and probably ravenous for a 2nd breakfast. I suspect this means boy will have a nap tomorrow, he had one today willingly as he was so excited about staying up late and camping out.

purpleknittingmum · 10/04/2011 21:14

Happy Birthday JM!

UnSerp, hope Wriggle is OK and back to herself soon

Had a good day, busy knitting my squares for Edgars blanket, my mum and stepdad over on their weekly visit, gave my mum all my card making stuff, just not into it any more, and going to do a bit of my knitting soon!

teafortwo · 10/04/2011 22:22

WOW!!!! It is HOT here!!!!

Tee - I am sorry about your ouchiness!

Scout - sorry you are poorly.

Even though I am scared of rugby players celebrations... congrats to finelad!

Oxeye - hello!

thumb - I am VERY glad the next 4yr old has been uncovered!!!

JM - Hipi birfdai. x x x

Unserp - Lately I seem to spend every weekend looking after other people's children! The boy I was looking after yesterday is being just like Wriggle. His Mum told me he always regresses a little and becomes a bit internal when the weather changes. Could this be the case for Wriggle too?

Cat - MOVE ASAP and if anyone questions it say The Tearoomers told me!

UUUUuuug - I forgot to put suncream on Milk yesterday before heading to the park. She got sun burnt and an old lady shouted at me in the street for being a bad Mummy (French people do this a lot). I told my friend that I was shouted at and that it was an accident and with whiter than white skin (I should know I have this skin too) - sorry - you do get caught out from time to time but friend said I had to be careful and talked about cancer and basically backed the old woman! I know I was wrong but it was an ACCIDENT!

oxeye · 10/04/2011 23:42

UnSerp - I am worried about Wriggle. This sounds not right at all to me. I would go to the GP and also read back for the Wise Words re tonics etc (mostly Thumb's posts I think) but bug after bug etc not good - I would want to check that out

Tea - don't worry. They sounds very unforgiving of mistakes - of course you didn't do it on purpose!

thumbwitch · 10/04/2011 23:53

Serpent - just seen this. Take Wriggle to the GP and get her checked over. Are her glands up? She could have a post-viral inflammation of her lymph nodes, producing symptoms similar to the Evil Virus From Hell that miniThumb and we had last October. Does she complain of tummy ache as well? Sounds like she's just feeling really crap and pathetic, hence the babyishness and general whingeyness. She is an empath, isn't she? So she might have just been screaming because the other little girl was but then got a touch hysterical with it and couldn't stop.

I have to go out now, sorry - but will check the Bach Flower remedies for the ones that are good for over-timidity (unless you find the previous post I did on it!). It was for the nightmares, wasn't it?

You might need to consider giving her a child multi-vit as well - I have just had to put miniT on one to get his vitamin D up to scratch (all this sun here and the poor boy is low on it!) - he seems to like chewing them ok so that helps.

But first and foremost go to the GP.

French people must have even tighter judgeypants than the Brits, by the sound of it! Tea, don't worry - one sun burn isn't the end of the world. Hope you have some aloe vera gel to put on the sunburn though.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 11/04/2011 07:44

Morning.

Tea I let LCT get sunburned when he was under 1. It's really not the end of the world, just be sure to lather him up in the future. Like most things, it's the cumulative affect.

Speaking of which, does sunscreen expire? I have searched last year's bottle for a date but I am shocked I can't find one! Especially in this country where everything has a date!

Lot's of work to do to today and also physio so I'll probably not be around.

Coffee anyone?

Scout19075 · 11/04/2011 07:49

Tee, YES!!! New suncream. I used to work in food marketing and did a bit of HBC and it's one of the many things I learned in the industry -- fresh bottle every year.

Tee2072 · 11/04/2011 07:59

Interestingly Scout, general internet google consensus is it lasts 3 years. But I think I'll get a new bottle anyway!

Not that it's much of an issue today. Raining puppies and kittens out there!

Scout19075 · 11/04/2011 08:15

I've always seemed to have problems with bottles after one season and asked HBC coworkers about it. They all recommended every year.

Though things like canned foods will last indefinitely as long as they're not punctured or puffy.

I also used to be fantastic at reading all sorts of manufacturing codes on food in the States -- any branded or PL product. Mom used to take me shopping with her so she'd get the freshest stuff. I am a sad, sad soul.

Shame about the puppies and kittens -- think we're due some this afternoon so hoping to get out for a walk/errands/play this morning.

But need to call the GP at 8:30 to get a blood test booked so will have to work around whatever appointment they can give me.

UnSerp, no ideas as we haven't hit those struggles yet but do echo in agreement with a trip to the GP.

Tea, it was an accident. Lots of aloe and cream and water (to drink). Last year, when TS was only months old, I was accused of crisping my baby. He wasn't red or pink at all and I kept insisting if he was distressed he'd either be screaming the place down or lifeless, neither of which he was. People like to interfere.

Hurray for FineLad and his team!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 11/04/2011 10:35

Tea, of course it was an accident, and accidents happen. That's the nature of the beast. One sunburn can't be the end of the world. When I was a child I don't remember anyone using suncream at school; now our school has already started its 'no hat, no play' rule - at the beginning of April. Hmm Is there just the tiniest chance that we have gone a bit overboard when it comes to the danger of the sun? Obviously we have to be careful, but ... (Note to self: BUY SUNCREAM. It's easy to forget when your child has skin of an attractive yellowish hue and has never sunburnt.)

Thank you for suggestions re Wriggle. I intend to buy a vitamin supplement this afternoon. I have just weighed her and she has lost nearly two kilos in the last few weeks. Very quiet day indicated, with lots of healthy meals. Our GP is a bit rubbish and is there actually anything they could do if it was a post-viral thingy?

UniS, hope the camping out happened before the Great Break In The Weather being forecast.

Oxeye, is Oxboy on holiday? Shall we still work to arrange a meet up at Wilton House one Tuesday or Thursday? What about the day before the Wedding? Some schools are not open that day/doing nothing. What about GardenGirl?

Scout19075 · 11/04/2011 10:51

GRRRRR at GP Surgery. Called at opening time (8:30), which is when you should to get same day appointment. "Oh, yes, we have an appointment at 9 at X (surgery operates two clinic sites, one on either side of town), can you make it?" I'm there! So wake up poorly TS, change him, dress him, get myself dressed, shove his breakfast in my bag and drive to the other side of town all in under 20 minutes to be told "oh, no the appointment is booked for TOMORROW morning at 9."

GRRRRR.

Poorly boy breakfasted, cuddled, more cuddled, now in bed again.

Will we ever be sick-free again?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 11/04/2011 11:27

Oh poor BabyScout! And poor you! Not sure how one does sick free (although not sure that visiting the GP helps.) Have a hot-cross bun.
