Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Bagsy I don't go there Shock

Who's for a Brew?

::hides nervously behind the Venetian blinds in case of passing crocodiles in from the canals outside::

mistlethrush · 13/04/2011 09:49

Amber, I've put the nmbs on croc watch so you can stop worrying - they're going to go and get the assistance of the bison and the bishops if necessary.

I do like the way they've already set up their own ways across the nearby canals - some of the nearby residents must wonder what the spidery highlevel bridge like structures are - I bet they start hanging their washing out on them soon.

Ginger beer - reminds me of the elderflower champagne we made when I was in about the 4th year at senior school (old money 4th year - so 2 years before 6th form) - last bottle got forgotten about a few weeks longer and was rather excited to come out - went all over my grade 7 violin music, the walls, the ceiling, the carpet, the piano - and we still had some to drink Grin

MaryBS · 13/04/2011 10:38

Apparently the trick with crocodiles is that they have very weak muscles for opening their mouths (and strong ones for clamping shut), so I reckon tie their mouths shut, and you'll be safe :). The scorpions on the other hand are a different matter.... but I gather very few species of scorpion have stings which are fatal for humans... Wink

UniS · 13/04/2011 10:44

Animal crackers .
Fun Fur and Feathers.

If you go down to the woods today.....

Boy is STILL asleep. 15 + hours so far. he's going to be hungrey when he wakes up.

For Dinner tonight I have polish meat filled dumplings.. what shall I serve with them? wondering about ratatoui type thing( tom sauce, courgette, onion, carrot , baby corn stir fried.)

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 10:53

I never knew babies/toddlers could ooze so many different colors at once. BLURGH.

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 11:06

Ohhhh, UniS, sounds yummy.

We're having another snot-filled day and have almost finished the box of tissues opened yesterday. I really just want to go to bed. TS has been content sitting on me or next to me playing with sticks/rings toy, his xylaphone and his puzzles. Am managing some laundry as we now no longer have clean sheets for TS.

I quite like all of the ideas, ladies, thank you!

Ohhhh, just saw on FB that three of my Scout friends did edible rafts with their unit (they all work together in the same unit/group). I've done edible fires but not edible rafts. That's FAB! Might nick that one.

amberlight · 13/04/2011 13:28

Edible rafts? If they get hungry, won't you all sink?

UniS, yum re suggestion with the dumplings. Here, trying to make my way through a chicken soup, bread roll and apple for lunch. Very slowly indeed.

Glad few of the scorpions are poisonous Shock

::stares out of the window at the NMBs trying to persuade the Bishops to try tightrope walking across the canal on the washing lines::

::makes a note to add that to the tea room health 'n safety notices::

Tee2072 · 13/04/2011 14:00

::wonders if the health and safety notice will say tightrope walking is on or off::

Back from dentist where LCT was hysterical. Think he's finally old enough to think I'm being attacked and held down, even though I talked about it constantly before hand. And then there is the noise, which I hate, never mind my 22 month old!

Amber, are you resting?!? ::stern look::

I also don't understand edible rafts?!?! And fires?!?!

UniS · 13/04/2011 14:14

Tightrope walking ON, falling OFF .

elf and saftey would like all nmbs to note that life jackets should be worn while tight rope waling over canals. Life jackets need not be worn when crossing bridges that conform to BS156788987644 part 4.

BOy is playing school, with me as pupil and him as teacher. quite illuminating about what they do at school. he told me a pretty good story in "assembly", currently he's yelling from his bedroom that it's " independent learning time" so I ought to go and play with the farm toys we have just tided back to his bed room.

amberlight · 13/04/2011 14:28

Am I resting? :contemplates her last hour, involving shopping in M&S and writing reports for Mr Stroppy the Bank Manager from Hell::

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 14:35

Amber - so long as you feel rested, then it's resting. If you feel tired/worn out/fed up, then STOP DOING IT. Grin

I still haven't taken miniT to the dentist - must do so however. Not keen.

(WTF are edible rafts? or edible fires for that matter?)

Scout - TS sounds like he needs to be fumigated, or something. Poor little thing.

UniS - I have a strong aversion to ratatouille. When I was a student, working in my industrial year, one of the things I had to do was browbeat persuade people to come and take part in random taste tests (I worked for a food packaging R&D company) and one of the foods we used to test for plastickyness, was ratatouille. Never really been able to eat it since. Although plastic ratatouille wasn't in any way as bad as plastic chocolate buttons. Or plastic water (but the chocolate buttons won hands down for awfulness).

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 14:52

Edible fire though there are lots of ways of doing it.

Yes, think TS needs something. I'll spare you the gorey details but rest assured I gagged a bit when I collected him this morning. [BLURGH]

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 15:26

This being the Tea Room, will a cornetto warm me up? Or should I just beg for some hot chocolate with lots of yummy cream?

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 15:30

no need to beg - it's on tap from the urn in the corner. Here you go Brew - hope it warms you up!
Does your medication regime have any effect on your thyroid, Scout? Is it worth asking them about that? Or do they check that every time as well?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 15:37

Think that's part of my routine MOT, thumb. But to be fair, I've always been scrawny and cold blooded. Just seems a bit worse now that I've lost 25 lbs. Though sometimes when I'm cold my face is hot, thanks to stupid flu. Makes it hard to know how to dress TS since I'm always cold and MrScout tends to run warm. So far I've noticed TS is going the way of his dad....

Eleven weeks (today) left!

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 16:04

Gawd - how long have you been on the meds now? Must be over halfway through (shocking memory here)

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 16:07

Thirty-seven weeks down of a 48 week course.

I'm impressed that if my immune system is starting to pack it in that it took this long to.

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 16:08

And don't worry, I don't expect anyone else to know these things, thumb. Though my Mom has been counting off the Wednesdays on her calendar. Bless her.

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 16:12

oh wow - more than 3/4 through then! That's great. And yes, your white cells have stood up to it well so far! But I expect they're suffering a little now, hence the 'flu etc. Poor buggers.
Has anyone recommended to you that you take any multi-vits to help support your immune system? Or told you that they are contraindicated with your meds? If there are no contraindications, then consider getting yourself an immune support multi - one that has at the very least vits A,C,E selenium and zinc. Especially since you're losing weight and your appetite isn't helping you - the zinc will be beneficial in that respect as well. :)

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 13/04/2011 16:14

I hope you're feeling a bit better soon Scout - and TS too... although, from my experience, an ear leaking what looks like snot is significantly more Envy (tearoom special version) than nose....

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 16:43

EWWW, mt, what a thought!

Should I be concerned that TS's snot smells? (sorry!)

Yes, specialist was pleasantly surprised I've only had one round of antibiotics since starting and that was a few weeks ago. I just keep counting down now, knowing I CAN and WILL finish and get through this. Will ask about supplements when I call for my blood results later this week.

mistlethrush · 13/04/2011 16:52

I've noticed that sometimes when mc was ill too - so I wouldn't be too surprised.

I wonder whether you'd benefit from some accupuncture? Again, would need to check out and also find a good practitioner, but I've found that can make you feel so much better when you're a bit off-colour, so could well help you get through the final few weeks.

Scout19075 · 13/04/2011 16:57

I'm not too surprised it smells given the fantastic rainbow of colors it is. Just didn't know if it was worthy of worrying. Stinky boy. I love him but pee-yew!

thumbwitch · 13/04/2011 17:16

afai remember, stinky exudate => bacterial infection - can you get him to the doc? He probably needs antibiotics, poor little soul.

AandO · 13/04/2011 17:27

Hey! I'm back in the country. I've been a bit miserable since returning and so haven't popped in. How is everyone? Lots of new names, namechangers? If so hints would be great! Grin
