AHOY! LONGTIME LURKERS!

We know you’re out there and we long to welcome you into the light. If you’ve been reading the boards for a while, but haven’t quite plucked up the courage to jump into the fray - or simply haven’t been able to settle on a username from your longlist - then this is YOUR week.

We’ve created a new topic - Newbies’ corner, especially for you. We’ve updated our ‘getting started’ guidelines in your honour (and even put them into video form, to make things easier still). We’ve come up with a guide to Mumsnet’s acronyms, so you’ll be spared the embarrassment of having to ask what a BFP is, or what you’d be doing if you LTB. We’ve summarised the key things you need to know about Mumsnet in a handy infographic (click here to discover exactly how many teabags we get through a week in MNHQ), and gathered the most legendary threads in the site’s history in one place, so you can do your background reading.

We've got a clutch of offers available exclusively to de-lurked MNers - and as if all that isn’t enough, we’re also offering spot prizes to those of you who make their your first post this week. Yes, really! So if you want to be in the running for

-two pairs of Kickers and £100 vouchers from <a class="break-all" href="http://track.webgains.com/click.html?wgcampaignid=185523&wgprogramid=10431&clickref=competitionthread&wgtarget=www.tower-london.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Tower London

among many other prizes, get posting now.

And! We'll be awarding all stalwarts who extend the hand of friendship to newbies with your very own halo emoji, to say thanks Halo

So come on folks, don't be shy: venture on below and tell us what you think of MN, and we'll pop your name into the lurkers' hat to win some fab goodies. Happy posting! MNHQ Flowers

SilverBirchWithout · 20/03/2016 23:30

The abbreviations are here:

Pickofthepops · 20/03/2016 23:31

Has anyone received audible codes ? Which inbox? Mumsnet or email?

Janmc1 · 21/03/2016 15:34

Hi
I googled the cost of a downstairs loo and got lots good ideas, I then discovered it came from the Mumsnet site so I thought I would take a look, I am a Grandma to one Grandson and a Grandaughter on the way so I'm hoping to get some good ideas. This may not be the website for me but let's see :-)

DanutaJR · 21/03/2016 20:11

Hi - I have just joined Mumsnet after reading about it loads of times. So I'm curious and interested. I have adult children, but I'm now a grandmother - a 16 year old, an 11 year old on one side of the family, a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old on the other.

DarkBlueEyes · 22/03/2016 15:12

MNHQ I've had a mixed experience here - found some amazing information, had some useful advice, but the first ish time I posted was in AIBU - clearly this was a massive mistake, as the knives were quickly out and I was left breathless and stunned by the many quite harsh and vicious comments I got, especially after I acknowledged I probably HAD BU early on in the thread (some lovely ladies stuck up for me and pointed this out), but OMG it nearly put me off for life and I will NEVER post on that thread again. I'll stick to paint colours, kitchen design and problems with cats weeing in the laundry basket... clearly I am not made of very stern stuff...

I've read lots of threads now and I am amazed at how, errr, frank and up front some people are. Think they forget that a real human being will be reading and that not all of us have skins like rhinos....

Sometimes this place seems like a really large girls' playground on speed.

Great prizes lovely to see I'm not the only lurker too

FindingNemo99 · 24/03/2016 04:12

Hi, I joined a couple of weeks ago and am getting quietly addicted to reading everyones answers to questions I hadn't even thought existed. I originally joined gransnet as I'm going to be a first time gran in a few weeks but couldn't bear it - half of them seemed old before their time and the threads were dominated by 2 or 3 posters who thought they knew the answers to everything end of.
Mumsnet is much more lively and I'm beginning to feel at home here - wish it existed when my two were younger!

Helenmcnamara · 24/03/2016 11:04

Ok probably a really stupid question but how do I 'watch' a thread via the app? I seem to have watched some (this one included) but I have no idea how I did it, and can't seem to watch ones I want to keep an eye on...help!

SoupDragon · 24/03/2016 11:34

I think the ones you have "watched" have been added automatically because you have posted on them.

Having looked at the App, I have absolutely no idea how you add a thread to your watch list though!

SoupDragon · 24/03/2016 11:35

Typical - I've just found it! In the list of threads, if you swipe the thread title to the left, you get the option there.

SoupDragon · 24/03/2016 11:35

(it also works with the thread title in the actual thread)

Hardly intuitive!

Helenmcnamara · 24/03/2016 11:52

Thank you!

Blakes8th · 25/03/2016 11:42

I have lurked for absolutely yonks, couldn't decide whether to join or not,as I am a mum of four but also a grandparent of four.I slipped off the fence and landed on the joining side, gransnet is too old for me and my kids are too old for here, prudish things were horrified by the "Do you dunk your penis?" thread, whereas I cried both ends with hysterical laughter.

Hello everyone im new just joined. 😀
I would like to find out anything and everything about Killinghall in Harrogate. We are looking to move up North and would like to know more about the area. Is it a good area? Are there good schools? Any help will be much appreciated.
