AHOY! LONGTIME LURKERS!

We know you’re out there and we long to welcome you into the light. If you’ve been reading the boards for a while, but haven’t quite plucked up the courage to jump into the fray - or simply haven’t been able to settle on a username from your longlist - then this is YOUR week.

We’ve created a new topic - Newbies’ corner, especially for you. We’ve updated our ‘getting started’ guidelines in your honour (and even put them into video form, to make things easier still). We’ve come up with a guide to Mumsnet’s acronyms, so you’ll be spared the embarrassment of having to ask what a BFP is, or what you’d be doing if you LTB. We’ve summarised the key things you need to know about Mumsnet in a handy infographic (click here to discover exactly how many teabags we get through a week in MNHQ), and gathered the most legendary threads in the site’s history in one place, so you can do your background reading.

We've got a clutch of offers available exclusively to de-lurked MNers - and as if all that isn’t enough, we’re also offering spot prizes to those of you who make their your first post this week. Yes, really! So if you want to be in the running for

-two pairs of Kickers and £100 vouchers from <a class="break-all" href="http://track.webgains.com/click.html?wgcampaignid=185523&wgprogramid=10431&clickref=competitionthread&wgtarget=www.tower-london.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Tower London

among many other prizes, get posting now.

And! We'll be awarding all stalwarts who extend the hand of friendship to newbies with your very own halo emoji, to say thanks Halo

So come on folks, don't be shy: venture on below and tell us what you think of MN, and we'll pop your name into the lurkers' hat to win some fab goodies. Happy posting! MNHQ Flowers

Hi Murky!

Welcome, welcome.

The idea is to stick around with some newbies until you feel comfy. It could be a post or two, or you could hang around for a couple of months, all depends on how you feel about dipping your toe into the rest of Mumsnet.

Nice to see you post Halo

RebeccaMumsnet · 14/03/2016 10:40

Good luck EnglishIrishRose!

Hi there PM,

Nice of you to post and welcome to Mumsnet.

You could start your own thread over in In The News about this issue if you like? You may get a better specific response over there. Here's our

We have also edited your post to remove your name from the post as many folks prefer the anonymity on here. It's obviously up to you if you'd like to use it again in the future.

Welcome Halo

@Esoresila

I've been reading posts for a few weeks as I only joined MN in January when I had my DS (still trying to get the hang of the abbreviations lol) I don't remember maternity leave feeling quite this lonely when I had both my DD's! So hopefully I can find a few new ideas on here to get me networking with other mums Grin

Welcome Esoresila and congratulations on the birth of your son.

Give us a shout if you'd like any help finding your way around.

Nice to see you posting Grin Flowers

@guerre

Megan- POAS! (politely, means do a pregnancy test!) There's a whole topic for conception, including lots of people that have PCOS, cysts, all kinds of things. Look at the top^ go to topics, conception, make a thread. Smile They will probably tolerate kisses on conception board, but the rest of MN may not [pointed stare]
Halo

It really is great that you've taken the plunge and posted for the first time.

Please do ask any questions and we will try and answer the for you or point you in the right direction.

Generally folks steer away from using their RL (real life) names on Mumsnet, just FYI and please don't be afraid to post. Try out _Chat if you're feeling a little more ready to post or stick with us for a while until you find your feet.

LisaMumsnet · 13/05/2016 14:20

TheNanaTroll thanks for asking for guidance about where to post information about your competition - we don't allow members to advertise things like this on our boards as Mumsnetters tend to view them as spam and report them as such (our boards are meant to resemble a conversation, and posts like that are seen as interruptions). We usually delete such posts and suspend the person's ability to post until they promise to adhere to our Talk Guidelines www.mumsnet.com/info/netiquette. Obviously we're not going to stop you from posting in this instance as that's the whole point of this board - to be able to ask for guidance and find out what posting on Mumsnet is all about. But we have deleted your post as it was reported to us. Happy Mumsnetting! Smile

LisaMumsnet · 13/05/2016 14:57

Hi clairem54 - we just wanted to let you know that we have a special place on Mumsnet to post listings about activities in your local area such as adult kayaking classes. We're afraid we do not allow people to advertise for free on our Talk boards - and so we've deleted your post.

However, you are most welcome to list your events for free on the Mumsnet Local boards (where members who live near each other can swap advice and info).

Here's how do that:

FIND YOUR MUMSNET LOCAL SITE
Go to local.mumsnet.com, and log in. You can choose your local area by clicking on the name. This will bring up a list of place names on the right hand side. Choose the appropriate place from this list. This will bring you to the Local homepage for that area.

ADD YOUR LISTING
Once you've got to the right Mumsnet Local site, click on the large pink button on the top right of the page that says 'Add a listing' and enter the relevant details under the right section (Things to do/Classes/Adult classes). Be warned that there is a word limit, so please keep your info nice and succinct.

Hope that's helpful. Lisa
