Chatty thread for ND mumsnetters

I thought I'd try and start a friendly chatty thread here on the ND board. All are welcome. Bring a cuppa.

I'm whiskeyaramadillo. I'm late 40s and AuDHD. I have a ND parent and two ND children - my third DC is NT ish. I work full time and live on the western edge of London but my heart is firmly in the countryside which is where I grew up. I have one black and white cat who is my sunshine although he is in my bad books today after bringing in a mouse.

Today (Sunday) I'm sorting out my very very messy house - again. Making sure homework is done and uniforms are clean. Putting endless pants and socks in drawers. If I'm lucky I'll get to lie on the sofa and continue reading 'Wintering' by Katherine May or watch a bit of a crappy fantasy movie with a giant mug of tea.

What is everyone up to today?

To hot

Yes it is. I hate the heat and humidity

Newyearsparkle · 22/05/2026 11:57

Our house heats up like an oven

bedfrog · 22/05/2026 13:27

@Newyearsparkleyou need to pop up to Scotland. It's about 17-18° here today. The air is always fresh.

Im wondering today if my ME flare is exacerbated by me being autistic. But I'm not sure how helpful that is because I've made my life quite autism friendly and don't do a lot of stuff where I need to come across as "normal". Honestly just feels like the world is too bright, too loud, too artifical, too much information, too many people. It's low-level overwhelming all the time.

I feel like that a lot
It's not nice
I feel I miss out on life because I'm to busy hiding from things I won't cope with

@bedfrog when they have the weather map on the news and it says Shetland is 13 and where I live is 25/26, I’m like “I wish I could teleport to Shetland right now”

JewelleryCat · 26/05/2026 14:16

Hi all, how’s everyone been doing in this heat? I’ve hated it and I can’t wait until it gets cooler

Newyearsparkle · 26/05/2026 17:40

Oh that’s a pain, a thunderstorm would have cleared the air. I’m sure the news said the warning for the thunderstorm lasts until 10pm if you’re in the area they said so you still might get some

Newyearsparkle · 28/05/2026 13:46

We did get someone the middle of the night ..but I just felt that was to little,to late ,to be of any use

JewelleryCat · 28/05/2026 16:32

Hopefully by the weekend and next week, the weather will be getting cooler and a bit more rain

I live in London The heat was affecting my sleep. By Friday I was feeling groggy and wasn't helped that I was coming of Seroquel which was prescribed for my autism to help me with repetition. It did help, but I got side effects in my nerves dyskinesia and had to stop taking them. I am at day 7 in of stopping the meds and I read that it can be get better around 2 weeks. Here is hoping.
Btw, I am diagnosed with autism and have a history of eating disorders being diagnosed with anorexia in the past.

I am going for screening for dyslexia test, hopefully I have found a charity where I get this done for cheaper costs. The NHS do not fund this.

I plan to start having a few days out this summer in early July, it will be a quiet summer. Church tomorrow and voluntary work and meeting the parents next week

Not been up to anything really. My health hasn’t been the best unfortunately. I suffered in the heatwave so been liking this cooler weather before the temperature rises again

Newyearsparkle · 16/06/2026 13:00

I'm a bit irritable with the heat today as well, mental health issues are a kicker
Mines dodgy to .. keep thinking about asking GP for another go at antidepressants..but the last couple of times I asked she no .
Have you managed a GP appointment yet @JewelleryCat /

It’s physical health, my CFS. If you think of a rollercoaster, I’m on the down bit of it and haven’t managed to get up yet

Hiw are you getting on with your ADHD meds? I hope I’ve got the right person

Oh bless you..I'm sorry to hear that .
Yes ADHD meds are going ok touch wood
But they are not miracle pills ,I still have to try to help myself.
They can't get me through a bad day ,or lift my mood of the floor
But in their own way ,they are quietly helping me .
I was definitely expecting to much from them to start with

I am glad they are helping you in their own way. Maybe they just needed time to work but then again, I don’t have ADHD so don’t know how long they’d take to work

What do you like to do to lift your mood? Sometimes music can help lift the mood or just something quiet like reading or a bit of meditation

Newyearsparkle · 16/06/2026 14:57

Well id had 4 upsetting things happen, actually 5 ,over the course of 2 days ,and I just walked outside, from the finish of the 5 th one ,and my mood dropped so low I didn't feel able to drive home , luckily there was a cafe next to me ,so I parked up and there for a bit .
Chat gtp said that's not depression ,it's my body saying that's enough upset for now .
Or words to that effect
But the ADHD meds made me able to do the things that caused the upset .. although I didn't know in advance upsetting things would happen.
So chat gtp suggested I take propropnal 3 times a day ,and before leaving the house ..I do have permission from doctors to take it with ADHD meds .
So it was just very unfortunate that the ADHD meds were brilliant helping me do what id not been able to for a long time ..but then people got in the way and caused me upset ..
But I guess that's life ,and I can't use that excuse to then not go outside

Newyearsparkle · 16/06/2026 15:04

I literally can't work out if I'm depressed or not
I've not been able to do normal things for a very very long time ..years ..
I've had countless CBT and counselling.. nothing helped.
Then I got put on ADHD meds ..and very slowly I'm starting to do these things again.
But I have no desire to do normal things or anything everyone else sees as normal .even though I now can .
I want to want to do things ,go places ,and I've just no desire.
I don't know if this is depression, but my doctor says I'm not depressed and she says everything is autism and she won't give me antidepressants

JewelleryCat · 16/06/2026 15:21

Unfortunately people will cause upset but you did the right thing about parking up and going to the cafe to decompress

It could be depression but it could also be your body having had enough as well like ChatGPT says. I know that when my body has had enough, it feels a bit like depression but it isn’t if that makes sense so maybe that’s why the GP doesn’t want to put you on antidepressants

Do you think the ADHD meds are causing you no desire to do things even though they helped at first?
