Good morning. Come and chat. Somewhere to escape to if the rest of life is too overwhelming..or just to relax.

Does anyone else malfunction in the heat?

My brain shuts down, my sensory stuff goes into overdrive and my throat tries to close over when I’m trying to drink water.

Thankfully my dc aren’t affected and are old enough to keep themselves alive without my help. They’re highly amused by the time lag between asking me a question and getting an answer.

This is definitely one of those times when I think I may be a badly designed robot.

Yes. Lost six days to the heat wave. 3 hot days. Two preparing, one recovering.

Yes the heat was crazy! Much better weather now. Its hard because I know how loud my DS is in the garden but I hate it when neighbours are loud! I know it's contradictory but I can't help it, it's odd! DS now off school for hols. Looking forward to spending the time together but also so anxious about filling all the time, so much time all day, and DS is constantly on the go, always moving, fidgeting etc, and sometimes I just need to sit still and be quiet. I find it really hard sometimes balancing our needs and the holidays can be lovely but very intense. Also the kitten keeps trying to attack everyone's toes so all good fun ha!

It seems to take my body several days to re-adjust to normal temperatures. It cooled down where I live on Wednesday, but it wasn't until this afternoon (Friday) that I stopped sweating and my heat swellings went down, and I finally lost my sense of things being wrong.

@JackieWeaverKickedMeOut welcome.

Didiplanthis · 29/07/2022 04:53

Hello, can I join you even if it is nearly 5 am and the birds are waking up and I've not fallen asleep yet !! I had to go out to dinner with work colleagues last night and although it was much less scary than I had thought it would be, my already rubbish sleep has been completely shot tonight by overstimulation and change in routine. I'm worse than the kids !!

BoardLikeAMirror · 29/07/2022 16:53

Hello @Didiplanthis . I hope by the time you read this you've managed to get some rest! I am no stranger to the sleepless night after over-stimulation.

LoveToWearADress · 29/07/2022 23:41

I have bought a new car. I did loads and loads of research then tried 3 and bought the third. I've wanted to talk about my research and the possible car all week but no one else is as interested as me!

The lady at the car dealership who does the finance is also on the spectrum. We had a really intense conversation about cars and finance but then I got drained but she wouldn't go away so I had to fix my face and listen for another half hour.

I also had a meltdown with my partner and I'm concerned he doesn't really get what being with me might be like. I'm conventionally attractive and present well and I think he keeps hoping that I'm mistaken about being on the spectrum, and that I'm just the pretty woman he met for a date a few months ago and not the complex and unpredictable person that I really am. I've seen the same thing happen with my DM, and I think she's chosen the wrong person to be with because he doesn't have the patience, however they've been together for 30 years. He does bully her when she's having an autistic day and I hope I'm not sleepwalking into a similar situation.

BoardLikeAMirror · 29/07/2022 23:55

Oh, please tell us about your research! I love reading about the spec for motor vehicles (despite not being able to drive myself). We have a 'household car' and I have great fun researching it when it needs replacing.

LoveToWearADress · 30/07/2022 07:20

Well the main thing is that I wanted to try to figure out the savings by going into some form of hybrid. I've gone for mild hybrid as the size of car I like to drive is expensive to buy as a full hybrid.

My only concern is that by doing a part exchange I'm likely losing out on £2-3k of extra money I could have made by doing a cash deal and selling my car myself.

However I'm taking a significant amount of cash back and using it to pay down the mortgage.

Again, this logic is flawed because the finance is 9% apr whilst the mortgage is obviously a lot cheaper but I've figure that cheaper running costs are going to make an immediate difference.

So I'm now regretting it and thinking I might cancel.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 30/07/2022 08:13

Which car have you gone for?

LoveToWearADress · 30/07/2022 08:27

A Hyundai Tucson mild hybrid 2020 plates (with finance)

Out of a diesel volvo xc90 2018 plates (fully owned, I hate debt)

LoveToWearADress · 30/07/2022 08:34

www.whatcar.com/hyundai/tucson/4x4/review/n103/buying-owning

I'm getting the diesel mild hybrid 1.6 crdi N Line. It does around 49 mpg vs my xc90 which does 32 mpg

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 30/07/2022 08:35

What’s the difference between a mild hybrid and a full hybrid?

i know I could Google, but you’ve done all the research (and those of us who haven’t got a clue would like to hear about it!).

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 30/07/2022 08:36

It looks very nice.

LoveToWearADress · 30/07/2022 08:43

Thanks 😊

Mild hybrid usually takes battery power from the engine and kicks in when the car is idling or you're decelerating. So long as you don't drive like a teenager, you usually get good use of it

Given my driving patterns I'd be better going fully hybrid but I want to keep a larger car and the fully hybrid SUV's are expensive with long waiting lists

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 30/07/2022 08:49

Thanks.

i don’t even have a car at the moment. I might buy one at some point in the next year. I’ve been pondering whether an electric car, or a hybrid of some kind would be best.

I think it would be a small car though. But cars are all incredibly expensive now!

Look at the Kia Niro, it's small and very cheap to run. There are some used models available now

LoveToWearADress · 06/08/2022 09:27

I feel so depleted. I had one meeting yesterday and a 1-1 social event last night. I've now had to cancel all my weekend plans as I'm so wrung out. It makes me feel a bit sad. Hoping I can use the time back to comfort myself with my special interest

BoardLikeAMirror · 06/08/2022 09:34

It sounds like you need a couple of days to hide away and self-soothe. Definitely the time when special interests come into their own. I hope you can regroup and feel better before you have to face a new week.

LoveToWearADress · 06/08/2022 09:46

Thanks @BoardLikeAMirror

I feel like such a failure. 'Luckily' I have a chronic illness that flares up occasionally so I can hide behind that as the reason to cancel things. It does help. Although it also flares when I feel like this so ... 🤷🏻‍♀️

LoveToWearADress · 06/08/2022 13:09

I'm feeling a bit more ok with how this weekend has panned out. I have some special interest things I've spent all morning on, and I can see that it will fill my weekend quite happily.

Might even get out for a swim. Let's see!

BoardLikeAMirror · 06/08/2022 23:09

I'm really glad you managed to 'rescue' your weekend. I often find if mine starts off badly, it's impossible to 'pull it back' and it ends up being a write-off.

My Saturday was OK - went round some charity shops and to a local craft market; couldn't stay too long at the latter as they were playing really loud music Angry but had a good walk in the fresh air to the big Sainsbury's afterwards. I always like going round a familiar supermarket, it gives me an 'everything is right with the world' feeling.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 06/08/2022 23:19

It’s annoying when the music is really loud. I can’t concentrate on anything - especially if it’s loud dance music or similar.

There is a post offering ABA on the parenting board. I've reported it, as have others.
Please report too if you agree that ABA is cruel.
