Awful new thread in the feminist board, and they wonder why their kind feminism is only for white women (and non Muslim).

@headstone it's so depressing. I don't have the strength to argue with them today. They're just so wrong.

@headstone thanks for letting us know. I just commented on there about a poster suggesting that all religious books were written by men and that's where the problem lies.

That thread is vile but it comes from a place of complete ignorance and misunderstandings/misinterpreting Islam altogether.

I wonder if it's worth opening up an AMA on Islam so if people have any questions they can ask and any Muslim posters can help answering them?

I do think about challenging some of these people and wonder if it’ll just make the thread more popular? Like the more traction and activity going on the more others will see it?
Also cannot STAND when it’s disguised as concern for all the poor Muslim women suffering when it’s their own prejudice and hatred speaking! For that reason, I try not to engage.

I've posted on there mainly to try educate them on Islam but I doubt it will make a fat load of difference tbh.

I've seen at least three AMAs on Islam and sadly they always go the same way. I wouldn't do it unless you have a very thick skin.

Those AMAs get derailed very quickly! It’s obvious there are those with a very, very clear agenda and you can tell by the sorts of questions they ask. They don’t want to genuinely learn anything.

I've considered doing an AMA but they all go the same way: everything is backward and terrible, hijab = oppression, etc. I once tried to answer some questions from an academic perspective but was told that wasn't what people were interested in and that I was derailing (I'd intervened because people were ganging up on that thread's OP).

The irony as well of Tawhidi being hailed as a fine example of a knowledgeable person in the CITME board when I think even I have more actual academic qualifications than he does.

It's incredibly sad that they just don't want to learn anything. But as Allah says there are those who are blinded and their hearts will always be sealed.

I've been trying on the other thread but they are not interested in what I'm saying just what they want to believe.

I'm not Muslim, but a few years ago in school I did Islam & became v interested in Muslim feminism. I'm Christian myself but I see truth in all religions & I don't believe any religion is bad. I treat Islam the way I treat Christianity, I assume that God (in your case Allah) sent a good message, & some followers have misused it. It's obvs extreme leaders in the Middle Easr have twisted the Quran etc for their own ends, but MNetters instead see the Quran as the problem. You shouldn't have to defend against ignorance all the time. If you like, I'd be happy to pass on anything there & challenge. I was going to post a feminist Muslim blog that points out that Aisha being 9 at the consummation is probs a wrong later interpolation. I was also going to recommend Fatima Mernissi.

I really don't know @Scirocco. It just makes me so sad and angry that it is. I've obviously reported it but it's still up. If people report it more maybe MN will take it down.
