Anyone else fed up with some of the blatant anti-muslim hatred on mumsnet?

Islamophobia is prejudice or hostility towards Islam or Muslims, manifesting in discrimination, stereotyping, violence, exclusion, and cultural misrepresentation. It damages social harmony and often stems from ignorance and racism.

Home Office Statistics: In the year ending March 2024, religious hate crimes in England and Wales increased by 25% to 10,484 offences. Crimes against Muslims rose by 13% to 3,866 reported incidents, accounting for 38% of all religious hate crimes during that period.

That's a really depressing statistic.

I just want things to stay on topic, so other sisters and people know they aren’t alone.

LaLaflower · 06/01/2025 22:23

This is greatly depressing statistic:

The charity Tell MAMA, which monitors anti-Muslim hate, documented 4,971 incidents of anti-Muslim hate and discrimination between October 2023 and September 2024—the highest annual total in over a decade. These incidents predominantly involved abusive behaviour (63%) and threatening behaviour (27%), with the majority occurring in London, the North West, Yorkshire, and the Midlands.

And these are only the reported incidents, too. There's likely to be many more that go unreported, with people either feeling unable to report or feeling like it's just part of life now...

Absolutely, I have to find the data but I think most of the crimes are against women and the elderly (people who look more “Muslim” outwardly).

And who are perhaps perceived as 'easier' targets. Bullies rarely target people they think could fight back...

@Scirocco because I posted here earlier, I have been getting automatic notification of further posts. I am compelled to say what a wonderful example you are of gentle long-suffering patience and a lesson in how to deflect away from relentless ‘stick poking’. Thank you 💐 I have book marked some of your comments here to remind me of what to reply to haters and disrupters of religious-based conversation within what should be a safe space. I absolutely loved your humorous squirrel of disapproval, after you and your sisters’ endured such protracted provocation.

Wowzers, it’s been hectic in my life and also here. I’ve just read four pages of a person trying to argue with no one arguing back. I don’t understand when they put so much effort into posting why they can’t start a new thread. Khair, I think they are providing the examples for the purpose of the thread.

With the usual resurgence of the rape gang news, all I am constantly hearing is everyone repeating, “name one muslim actually condoning this” the answer of course is zero but so sad it gets tagged muslim.

TakeMe2Insanity · 08/01/2025 20:20

On a brighter note, inshallah Ramadan is coming ❤️🌙

Vivaea · 12/01/2025 06:43

What on Earth have I just read - pages and pages of someone trying to derail a thread, demanding everyone justifies themselves to her and saying she is a victim of sexual assault so therefore above criticism.

Anyway - a slight derail from me - my husband's hometown Wad Medani has just been reclaimed from RSF fighters in Sudan - great news for all the family and lots of celebrating in the streets.

Love coming back to this thread and seeing all the positivity and patience from the majority of posters.

Efacsen · 12/01/2025 09:19

@Vivaea a bizarre and unpleasant interlude by a poster who appeared to be drunk or unwell - or both who then went on to complain on another thread about the 'hate' they'd received here

Do feel MNHQ could have taken a firmer line considering the topic
